Is this rifle worth $1000? Ruger is charging a lot for new ones. I live in the people's republic of Maryland so getting an AR is kind of pointless.

Need something for coyotes
>>
>>30342894

They tend to be a bit unreliable, not terribly accurate, and mags cost more than they should, but if you're in a state that cucked the AR and you really want semi auto .223 it's probably your best bet.
>>
If you're going to spend four figures on a black Garand-family rifle with removable magazines, get an M1A Scout Squad.
>>
>>30342894
no theyre literally fucking inferior to AR-15s. their only redeeming feature is looking cool and being featureless, so if you were going to get a mini 14 in the first place dont get it in a garbage polymer stock. afaik Maryland's AWB is pretty lenient too, so you can get an AR that isn't completely retarded anyway for almost half the price.
>>
>>30342914
I guess the only thing good about minis is that it has the m-14 style action so you can feed rounds into the rifle with a magazine attached. This isn't for gear queering it's for pest control
>>
>>30342939
lol not even, it doesn't have a stripper clip guide. i don't know about single loading it either, sounds like youd trip the bolt catch and get mini 14 thumb if that's a thing.

You literally just get an HBAR variant and have no restrictions.
>pic related, hoco resident
>>30342904
M1A is banned in MD
>>30342914
Marylands AWB can be circumvented just by buying an AR where the barrel profile diameter is never less than the gas block diameter
>>
>>30342977
>M1A is banned in MD
AHAHAHAHA FAGGOT

Some /k/ommandos guide
>>
>>30342950
If it's BOH then you can definitely do it. I'm sure a gunsmith would be able to mill out a stripper guide into the reciever

It's worth about $500-$600, I might pay $700 for one because for some reason I really like them.

That said, an AR makes more sense. I am a fellow MD bro, you can still have an AR with all the features as long as it is an HBAR. You can also have an AR pistol in any configuration and with any barrel profile.

You should definitely buy an AR instead, it is cheaper, more accurate, more easily customized, and cheaper to keep running.

Get an Ares SCR
>>
>>30343357
It's such a pity they don't come with wood furniture from the factory. It instantly turns the gun from a tacticool abortion into a decent looking rifle.

80% AR lowers are legally "not firearms." You can finish manufacturing them at home and have a legal ghost-gun, then order all the mags, ammo, and parts you want online.
>>
>>30344640
You do realize that as soon as you completed it, it becomes a firearm and all the laws apply
>>
>>30342894
AR-15's are fine as long as they have a heavy barrel. I'd go for that before I go anywhere near a mini-14
>>
>>30346205
The point is, if you build it yourself, nobody knows you have it. Unregistered, unserialized, just mill, build, and shut the fuck up.
Same principal as shoot, shovel, and shut up about it.

You can still buy an AR receiver in MD. You're fucked whether it started as an 80% or a 100% if you're caught with a post ban evil black rifle, so why go to the trouble?
>>
>>30346285
So the AR is banned by name I see, but not AR-10 pattern rifles?
Interesting.
For coyotes, if you really want a .223/5.56, an Ares SCR is a good option simply because it can use AR-15 uppers and bolts.
But then again I'm partial to the look of the thing.
>>
>>30342894
Why doesn't ruger make tactical barrel model with wood stock?
>>
>>30346513
Newp. Just bought a 308 AR, myself.

5.56 is scurry ass-salt round. 308 is huntin round, apparently, which makes it less scary.

Take a look at our ban list, it's pretty much a fudd's wishlist of expensive and rare rifles.
>>
>>30346243
The point of these possession laws are not to prevent people from getting certain guns. It's to provide additional ammo to prosecutors when they bust you for something.
>>
>>30342894
>garand rifle action
>little collectors value
Buy an AR. You'll get a much better weapon.
>>
Should I buy one of these or a PTR91. I want the wood ranch one though.
>>
It's not a 1k rifle by any stretch.
Going rate is 600-700 now. Haven't seen one under 600 in years. All the more reason to buy an AR.

That said they are nice. I love em and the added cost is a non issue for me. If you buy a Mini-14 because you can't have what you actually want you'll hate it. If you buy one because you like it more than an AR you'll love it.
>>
>>30343502

Wood does that to every gun though
>>
Not only no, but "fuck no"

I wouldn't spend more than $400 on a mini-14, not when good AR's are so cheap.

I had a mini-14 when I was a kid and it jammed every other round. I guess the new ones are supposed to be more reliable though
>>
>>30351914
You're still a kid, son.
>>
Not at all. 1k is too much. Saw one on sale for 560 the other day. 600 is about right

What's to stop you from building an AR lower out of wood?
