Nice to see the blade shape and pattern welding working together somewhat at least. Too often (looking at you, knife in >>30310127 , though we've certainly seen worse) the pattern end sup working more as dazzle camouflage.

As for these things overall, while there's a lot of neat details to be seen, and overall good craftsmanship I guess, it usually end sup being, well, not quite my cup of tea. A bit overdone, treating the base object as little but a canvas, instead of letting the knife be a knife first and foremost.

Then again, with a really high end and crafted knife, odds may be that it isn't going to see any use anyway, so when you're not trying to replicate a historical artefact or anything like that vaguely the knife-shaped sculpture might perhaps be the most honest one after all.

Mosaic damascus blades made by Mattias Styrefors. IIRC he gets the colours form using steel with varying nickel content (up to pure nickel) and then heat bluing the entire thing, with different compositions taking on different colours.

in asia was tradition to make ceremonial or luxury chopsticks. the tradition survived only in Russian siberia, mongolia and some part of China. the wealthy mongol always has own set of very well made Chopsticks or "dining set" which usually includes small knife and chopsticks to eat meat and noodles. i remember seeing a report of some very old mongolian artist who did nothing beside luxury chopsticks.

btw. people from ex soviet union has the tradition to have a knife as a decoration in their room. it comes from war and russian royals having weapons on the walls. later ordinary people put the knifes of own as a deco. soviet union had tradition to give "honor weapons" as a award in millitary victories or for long and hard work. i met once russian, who had a dager given to his granddad by tzar, dagger given to him again by soviets during the citizen war, then one to his father in ww2 and one very beautifully knife given to him by Russian goverment for chechen war.
