Recommend a good backpack that can be used for both camping/hiking and bringing a laptop and stuff to work. I.e. doesn't look like shit but is sturdy.

Guessing the two might not be interchangeable, but whatever. This is on /k/ because who the fuck else knows, and we do have watch and pocket knife threads.

Thanks, but looking for something like the above, though yours is good one for hiking.

Let's face it - there is a certain type of stuff that just fits here, and people here (yes, I am going to say it) tend to be reasonable in terms of price /practicality/durability/appearance.

Their bags are pretty nice too. I wouldn't bring these to long, multi day hikes but to a day hike. But they are pretty comfy

Mystery Ranch Gunfighter or Urban Assault would be my first suggestions. For something a little more tacticool, there's Direct Action.

You should probably figure out how much carrying capacity you really want before you make a decision.

If you're OK with digital color camo, the Marine ILBE assault pack is comfy and near-indestructible.

If you like $50 indestructibility but don't like camo, throw it in a plastic tubbie full of water with a black ROT dye pellet overnight.

The Urban Assault looks good. I am probably going to end up going with some Victorinox though. Maybe something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-313051-Vx-Sport-Scout/dp/B00JL5D5V6/ref=pd_sim_198_5?ie=UTF8&dpID=413MMCxP77L&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL200_SR118%2C200_&refRID=1C3RF30FT6KR3QGDCH5P

>>30302801
>>30302855

Thanks Phil, but camo is a no-no. I might take this shit on work trips and stuff.

>>30302939

No clue. Saved it from here. Don't think I ever actually read it.

>>30302739

I actually have no idea where people would put a sleeping bag comfortably.
>>
>>30302801
But Anon those packs suck so bad the Corps put policies into effect to let Marine purchase thier own bags and be allowed to wear them in uniform. The corpsmen version is a little better but still... 1 not that big/great main pouch, shitty straps 1 secondary pouch with no compartmentalization If you put a camelback in it you're out of space and putting any large pouches on it totally fucks your center of gravity

>>30302259
I just put my camera on the charger hang out and I'll do a review of my 5.11 Rush I've had since 2013 and used both in and out of the military. Pretty much carried it everyday since I got it and I've been wanting to do a review on it for awhile.

I'll post here. The TL;DR of it is going to pretty much be The rush is awesome except for 2 things 1 it needs a second cargo strap on the outside and I have one of the old versions that doesn't have the rings to be able to add a lap belt but I'll take some pics and try not to get to 'Nutn about it
>>
>>30303020

Victorinox's build quality is good, but I'm not a huge fan of that strap setup. Probably works fine for a light load, but I prefer something that naturally sits higher- makes for less pain and suffering down the road.

Ok Rev up them Dildos /K/unts here we go this is my review.... not so much but I'd say more of a walk through of the 5.11 Rush 24 backpack.

Firstly just look at this bitch it's covered in Molle so you attach whatever the fuck you want to it.

Here's the side There's more Molle and a side pocket Which comes in pretty handy. You'll see why here in a second. This what I was talking about earlier though there's only one side strap for cargo control which does it's job pretty well but to be honest it would be nice to have another one lower so you could strap saw a jacket or tarp to the side a bit easier

Ok now we're starting to get to some of the features I really like about it. This is the Hydration pouch. I'll show you the hook ups for the bladder here in a second But I love this pouch. It sits right up against the backboard (I'll show you that here in a sec too) so when you aren't using it for a bladder this is the best document storage spot you'll ever find. the back board protects your furry drawings like you would not believe and keeps everything A. separate from the rest of your shit which is probably dirty or would jostle against it and wrinkle your papers and B. that back board does a great job of keeping documents dry. Both from your sweat or if you left your bag out and it got rained on

Here's the back board. .The plastic insert in it is pretty hefty so that's nice. It would probably make a good wind barrier for your feet if you went hammock camping or even a decent snow shovel in a pinch.

Only thing is, unless your laptop is small, it's a little awkward to fit one in. An iPad however, fits easily into the radio pouch

Here it is again with a bladder in. I usually put it in the other way so the port for the tube is facing the inside of the bag and not making a bulge spot in my back but I figured it'd be easier to see like this.

There are 2 ports for the hydration tube to get out which is cool because you can choose which side you want it on or more importantly if you're an RO you can thread an antennae out of it and you don't have to worry about running it through a zipper and possibly having your ant unzip your bag while you are moving.

Ok here we go the main attraction. This bag has so much capacity it's crazy. Plus there are pockets for fucking everything which I love. Here's the two larger ones located on the inside of the back panel. I like the top one is mesh because it's there when I need it and if I have something like a laptop in the bottom one it lies flat

That's pretty much it as far as the bag itself I've been using mine for a couple years now and I have to say the thing I am most impressed with is how well it's held up. I have only seen a few spots of wear. for example the loop side of the velcro is starting to show some fraying

The worst wear is on the bottom of the bag where the back board is starting to chew through the fabric but even then it's not too bad and it's only happening on one side.
