My grandfather had his legs shot off by a machine gun and came home in wheel chair, he had a heart attack in his sleep and died. It was attributed to PTSD.

My great uncle died in Germany to a landmine. Won a Silver Star for his actions as QRF at the Bulge, apparently his driver drove directly into a German foxhole, which got the Jeep stuck, and Uncle Cecil jumped out, killed 4 Germans single handedly, one in hand to hand, sustained a bayonet wound, dragged his wounded driver out, dropped a grenade in the Jeep and then dragged his driver all the way back to friendly lines.

We didn't find all this out until my grandfather died. He had an old ammo box with Cecil's citations, medals, and the telegram my great grandmother got when he died. It's really neat to have his actual citation, since so many WWII vets lost theirs in the Archive fire.

We bought his drinks and chatted him up for a while, he was a ball breaker. Really cool guy though.
