The gun that single-handedly won the war for the Allies versus the gun that fired so fast it couldn't hit a target 20 yards away.

So /k/ommandos, which was was the ultimate automatic weapon of WWII?

Man, I fucking hate lindybeige.
>>
Sorry, but belt fed GPMG beats magazine fed.
>>

shoo shoo slimey limey

>fired so fast it couldn't hit a target 20 yards away.
what?
>>
The Bren was so accurate even German snipers feared platoons of Brits when they were carrying such a weapon around.

In one occasion, one British machine gunner killed a German sniper located on a tree over 1200 yards away.

Meanwhile, the Germans needed an extra squad of unarmed men just to carry the extra ammunition for the Spandau, most of which ended up wasted anyway since it was so inaccurate that by the end of the war most German machine gun crews were using captured Allied guns and had converted their factories to produce the right cartidges.

What.
>>
>>30298648
His other shit is good
>>
>>30298888
the truth naziboo
>>
>>30298732
To be fair the inaccuracy issue was really evident only on the Spandau-42. The Spandau-34 had a more moderate rate of fire and was a bit more accurate. Still not Bren tier, though. There's a reason if the Bren was still in service in the 60s while the Spandau was never manufactured again after the war.

What is the MG3?
>>
>>30298965
Excuse me but I did my research and the weapon you've mentioned has given no results. I presume they're somewhat similar but I don't think they're the same gun.
>>
>>30298965
Trolled softly.
>>
>>30298978
How high are you? The MG3 is just a 7.62NATO version of the mg42 with a few other small changes. It is used as the standard MG in many nations.
>>
>>30298908
I can find no reputable source on German industry reconfiguring to produce .303 in any numbers. I can't imagine a retreating force capturing allied weapons in any significant amount. The bren was a decent LMG, but had the disadvantage of low capacity, which made vehicle deployments retarded. Also gonna need a source on that "1200" yard story. And a source on the idea that MG crews contained extraneous unarmed(?) personnel to carry ammo.

Actually not a naziboo. I'm one of those people that thinks you britbongs would still be "fighting them on the beaches" if FreedomLand hadn't intervened.
>>
>>30298978
>bait?

Fired the MG74 in the army and loved it, sadly it's a bit slower than the mg42, still loved it, had no problem with accuracy
>>
>>30298732
> le inaccurate mg42 meme
>Bad Bait

Tell that to the allied soldiers who got chewed up on Normandy beaches.

The weapon was so bad it got converted to 7,62 NATO and still used to this day but okay.

And how many non shit army still uses the bren nowaday ?

>>30298992
>If I chamber an M9 for .50 cal rounds its totally the same weapon guys!!!1
>>
>>30299051
>Changing from one rifle cartridge to another rifle cartridge while keeping the same mechanisms is making a completely different gun.

You couldn't make an m9 in .50 cal without fundamentally changing the operation. That's clearly hyperbole and you should feel like an idiot for resorting to it.

Not him, but think about the AR15 platform. Different caliber doesn't mean completely different weapon.

Try more sensible trolling next time.

>wehraboos damage control
They just took a pre-existing design and made a new weapon out of it.
Completely different.
The BREN gun was still in service in the 60s.

>>30298648
Hes alright when it comes to historical stuff. He just needs to stay away from firearms-related topics.

Are you fucking retarded?
M53
Yugoslavian built Zastava M53, a near exact copy of the MG 42

In Yugoslavia this MG 42 variant was built at the state-owned Zavodi Crvena Zastava company as the M53 machine gun using original German machinery, retaining the 7.92×57mm Mauser caliber. By doing so, the Yugoslavs retained the original weapon's design features, making the M53 a near exact copy of the German MG 42. The only major differences are a slower rate of fire and no anti-aircraft sight mount. The aiming range of the M53 is 2,000 m (2,187 yd), and the terminal range of the bullet is 5,000 m (5,468 yd), the same as the MG 42. MG 42s captured in Yugoslavia at the end of World War II were put into reserve of Yugoslav People's Army as M53/42s. The last military use of M53s in Yugoslavia was in 1999. Some quantities of M53s were exported to Iraq in the 1980s and saw extensive action during both Gulf wars. There is evidence that some M53s are still being used by Peshmerga forces in northern Iraq in the ongoing war against ISIS. M53 was known under the nickname Šarac (Шapaц).
>>
>>30299137
So, Bren gun out of service in 60s, M53 still in use in the 90s. Stupid fuck.
>>
>>30299137
>Cmpletely different

so a conversion kit makes completely different weapons aswell??
>>
One is still in service.

One isnt.

/thread
>>
>>30299137
Okay lets go with what you're saying, people looked at the MG42 and thought wow this has potential and made better/newer designs out of it, which saw service well into the 2000s.
Nobody looked at the Bren gun and thought the same.

Anyways the MG42 is a GPMG and the Bren is an automatic rifle.
>>
"The MG 3 is a German general-purpose machine gun chambered for the 7.62×51mm NATO cartridge. The weapon's design is derived from the World War II era MG 42 universal machine gun that fired the 7.92×57mm Mauser round."
>>
>>30298732

>accuracy
>good trait for an LMG

If anyone unironically things that the Bren is better than the MG42 you have some serious mental health problems. The MG fucking fires up 1200 rounds per minute. Isn't accurate, which isn't bad since you need spray on a machine gun, and its BELT FED, not fucking magazine fed.
>>
>>30299137
also the MG51 is still in use with the swiss army and it's basically an MG42 in GP11
>>
>>30298623

A somewhat silly comparison. Both are fine.
>>
>>30299137
>The BREN gun was still in service in the 60s.

yeah, after being converted into 7.62x51 lmao
>>
>>30299137
Actually it was a 7.62 conversion called the L4.
>>
>No handle on the barrel
>On a MG with an extreme RoF

Blunder of the century
>>
>>30300711
Well you got gloves on / one with you, technically you could lift the mg to let it fall out once opened it. Still really fast barrel swap
