so i picked this thing up for $700 and got the missing rear sight and dust cover separately- gotta say it's nice to go to local shops and see walls of merch instead of having to shop online for my slavshit that no one likes here

any recommendations on favorite grips, stocks, and handguards? building a shtf rifle, possibly with an sbr within the near future

also not super familiar with 556, ammo recommendations for home defense welcome

You aren't cool for toilet posting newfag.

You're trying to hard.
>>

Magpull Furniture.

to determine the best ammo to use for your gun we need to know the barrel twist your gun has
>>
>>30297029
1/7 twist, carbine length. haven't decided to sbr or not yet

>>30297017

>>30297029
are your irons aligned with the rds when deployed? would be neat to not have to fold the rear site to use either

>any recommendations on favorite...

There are a million and one accessories for the AR, spend some time shooting with it as you have it and think about what you want it to do better be it performance or ergonomics.

With an idea of your desired end result, you should only then start hunting for parts to achieve that.

>ammo recommendations
It is a 1:7 16" Colt, anything topped with a 77gr Sierra Matchking or if you require a barrier blind load, Federal 62 gr Trophy Bonded Bear Claw bonded JSP XM556FBIT3 or 5.56 mm Winchester 64 gr solid base bonded JSP Q3313/RA556B (both are LE loads).

>possibly with an sbr within the near future
They are a lot of fun.

You Should be shooting a 62 grain bullet for best accuracy in a 1.7 twist barrel.

This helpful picture should help you decide which ammo is the best.

SBR? Why not just get a lower, file your form 3, and wait? Keep that rifle as is. Seems a bit silly to just form 3 the first gun you get.

Everything else is preference.

Head over to ARG (AR General) and annoy the trips with your silly questions we hear every single day over and over.

>You Should be shooting a 62 grain bullet for best accuracy in a 1.7 twist barrel.

Accuracy is not a determination in an HD load, only terminal performance. Heavy OTMs or bonded midweights rulle the day at defensive ranges. Even something that shoots an abysmal 5" group at 100y is only a 0.75" spread at 15y.

yes...more fiber in your diet.
it will help prevent colon cancer...and the urge to literally shitpost.
>>
>>30297167
You are correct. im just letting him know the ideal load for his rate of twist. Calm down.
>>
>>30297260
When someone asks about HD loads, you should provide information about HD loads, not a postulation about what you think his barrel may like for printing groups at the range.
>>
>>30297157
was going to tax the lower since that way i can just have one rifle and swap uppers to whatever i want, sbr or otherwise

by no means my first gun, i just wanted to get something that would be available everywhere if it came down to it- parts, ammo, accessories etc

the home defense aspect is important because apartment walls are pretty thin, but anything would beat my current nightstand gun- a makarov with russian ball ammo

Shut The Fuck Up! you are making me cringe right now. Bullet Weight: The Ideal Rate of Twist

So to simplify this for you, here is a chart you may want to print:

Bullet Weight Twist
40-Grain 1:12
55-Grain 1:9
62-Grain 1:8 or 1:7
77-Grain 1:7 or 1:8
80-Grain 1:7

>also not super familiar with 556, ammo recommendations for home defense welcome
>the home defense aspect is important because apartment walls are pretty thin

Its okay, continue to post "the chart" to try and prove you are a credible source for information while still not providing relevant information to topic at hand.
>>
>>30297376
Kek never said i was a credible source just throwing my 2 cents.
>the home defense aspect is important because apartment walls are pretty thin

Did he say he lives in a apartment? what if he lives on a fucking ranch. keep it relevant to the topic at hand faggot. and if he does live in a apartment you should not be encouraging him to use an AR15 for home defense because no matter what load he uses it going to go through the neighbors wall and through their neighbors wall and so forth.
>>
>>30297533
a lightweight high velocity 223 hp is a much better choice for apartment hd than the mentioned 9x18 handgun ;)
>>
>>30297559
This made me LOL
>>
>>30297603
care to explain?
>>
>>30297695
no one said anything about a 9X18 handgun.
