If you buy plates, make sure that you get triple curved. They make a huge difference in terms of comfort.
>>
>>30293913
That's what I've heard.
I'm kind of worried my spooky skeleton torso will lessen the effectiveness of stuff like that, but I guess I'll have to find somewhere selling plates to try them, or find out when I get some.

Greens blacks or greys?
The differences are important ones.

I'm actually quite thin as well and my plates (medium/10 x12) fit me just fine. Adding a soft armor backer or BALCS panel adds to the comfort.

Opinions on 6sh112 and 6b23-1? I ordered myself a set of both the plates and soft armor for 6b-23 and some SVD pouches for the 6sh112 which came with the complete assault pack and AK standard set of pouches.

112 is not so good, 116 and 117 have a way better belt.
6b23 is just obsolete steel plate garbge.

It's a First Spear "The Sloucher" BALCS armor vest. Really cool vest that does away with MOLLE webbing in favor of laser cut Cordura adhered to a tear-proof fabric backer. This is the future (I recently saw Eagle's new MBAV 2.0 and it's using this). In 5 years, I expect everyone to be going this route.

There is also no cummerbund flap to affix the cummerbund sides. Instead, the cummerbund is secured with a proprietary fastening system. No more annoying Velcro!!! I'm really digging it.

The difference between NIJ III and NIJ IV is not that big. Who the fuck is shooting black tip 30-06 at you? The real problem is that NIJ standards literally have no information about whether a plate will stop M855, M193, or 7.62x39 steel core, which are much more common rifle threats. The reason people pick NIJ IV is because the majority of level IV ceramic plates have no trouble with any of the aforementioned rounds, and because the availability of special threat rated plates is poor.

>>
>>30296435
Yeah, it's a BALCS cut. Which square plates are you referring to, the big ones or the small ones? The big ones are level 4 stand alone "rear cut" plates. They're mainly meant to go in the rear of your plate/armor carrier, but you can wear them in the front too. The reason I have them is because of some deal on Fleabay. Admittedly, they aren't as comfortable as shooter cut plates and make me feel really bulky.

Does the rear platebag in the sloucher fit them? Haven't checked in my 6094 but it seems like many PCs wouldn't fit them. Also do you think you could conceal a sloucher under a jacket if you only had the soft armor in?
>>
>>30297932
Yeah, they should fit just fine as the carrier has stretch fabric on the sides to accommodate different plate sizes. I actually haven't tried to fit any of my ceramic plates in this specific carrier, but my Diamondback Tactical 10 x12 steel plates fit (they're the same size as my ceramics but thinner) I will try to fit them in when I get off work.

As for concealabilty, the armor carrier is very low profile and the sides are actually slick (it's basically a hybrid vest), so you most definitely could conceal it under a jacket especially if you have low profile plates like steel.

One hole, obviously. A single hole balaclava is a very versatile garment. You can wear it rolled up as a hat, covering everything except your eyes, covering everything except your face or pulled down around your neck as a muffler. You can't do those last two things with a two or three hole balaclava, because the holes are too small. Synthetic if you're in a hot climate, wool or wool-synthetic blend if you ever expect to be somewhere cold.

It's great. BUT, it has a hollow grind, which is better for preparing game than splitting wood (which you shouldn't do). Hollow grinds have a thinner edge, which makes slicing through game easier, hence the reason it's one of the most popular hunting knives in America.

Not necessarily, because that shit weighs more. When each plate weighs 2-3 lbs more that ends up being a 4-6 lb increase total which is fairly significant.

>>30301216
Not all level III plates are steel. Special threat plates, when correctly chosen, will stop the vast majority of small arms threats barring black tip. Hot .270 will not perform the same against ceramic as it does against steel. Most of the low sectional density high velocity rounds that penetrate steel well perform poorly against ceramic or UHMWPE, regardless of level III or level IV. Also I wouldn't discount 7.62x39 as a rifle threat. There are plenty of AKs in CONUS and not all of them are in the hands of good people.

Natural light makes it look a bit more green. The blue wall makes it look gray.

Pic related is the dyed stuff against regular undyed stuff.

you have no reason to be salty. You came in and insulted me, accused me of not answering your questions, and now you are being a little cunt for no reason.

this is a gear thread, I know enough about gear to help noobs decide what they want. I post some pictures of my stuff, answer any questions in the thread i have the answers to, and discuss gear with the other people who regularly visit these thread. I don't see the problem? I also get new gear and post it relatively often.

I think I'm going to buy pic related.
It's the Operator II Plate Carrier.
It's made by Condor.

I'm planning on buying two IV plates for front and back when I have the money.
Also I think I want to buy an auxiliary plate carrier that can hold III plates.

For the side plates I'm looking at 6 x 8 III plates.

Is AR500 a good dealer when it comes to body armor?

Between you and Garand thumb I've been checking mine to see if they're still waterproof any time I'm near water. I have a gozillion miles on mine so I won't be terribly disappointed if/when they give out on me.

I saw your post from a thread or two back, yes I have gotten the Alpha LT pants and they're sweet. Haven't gotten to use them yet, and I probably won't until I go backpacking in the rain again, but I'll be glad I have them when I do.

I really wanted to get them in time for Nuggetfest but luckily the rain wasn't so bad in Virginia after all. It mostly rained at night but that just makes shit more /comfy/

Hill People Gear Kit Bag

I got this last year, it's fucking great. I use it when fishing innawoods. I keep a tackle box, pliers, wallet, GPS, light, knife, phone, and CC handgun on a Raven holster in it. It has a dedicated pocket for the gun with a loop for the holster lanyard.

I even use this when not carrying just because it's fucking convenient.

You will look autistic wearing it.

Generally tourniquets should be level 3 or higher EPDI medical certified. A combat torniquet should have a carbon fiber weather/temp coating at a minimum especially if you have it exposed. Ideally you want it to have a full vibranium coating to ensure maximum temperature proofing though.

How the fuck am I supposed to mount a knife to a battle belt?

If it put it vertically it either jams into my side (mounted from sheath) or might break the sheath when I sit down (mounted from handle area).

If I put it horizontally behind my back I can't see the damn sheath to put it back in (can't put it on the sides because mag pouches and holster are already taking up all the space).

Nobody told me this shit would be so hard. Should I just go full retard and get a drop leg setup?
>>
>>30306749
I'm guns have to look up balcs inserts. I don't know if it's adjusted right, I think it is, I just have to keep sliding the front have up to be at the same level as the back, 3 minutes of walking around in it and the front is 2-3 inches lower than before. Mine has elastic on the inside with Velcro, and I added Velcro strips to my plates to make them stay in place, it works well. Getting ceramics is like at the bottom of my grocery list right now. I just got another ak, talking with a dude about buying his british
L1a1, and maybe 850 bucks worth of 7.62 steel core. And I still don't own a concealed carry permit or a compact pistol.

Cool guys mount it upside down on their support-side shoulder strap. You will have to relocate your vibranium coated tourniquet though. But the easiest way and what I actually recommend is to secure it in a Crye Precision TACO pouch. Tactical Tailor works too.
