Somewhat related, I have an ex-sniper, and was thinking of as a pet project re-snipering it. Ex-snipers aren't really that valuable so I wouldn't feel bad about "bubbaing" it, but wanted to make it into a decently accurate rifle.

How can I test the accuracy of the barrel to make sure I have something worth trying it with? I'm a terrible shot with irons so have no way to evaluate it based on my own performance.

Finnish military never used PU rifle scopes on any of its rifles except handful of captured Soviet m/91-30 rifles that had the scopes on when captured.

Most WW2 "sniper rifles" are just regular infantry rifles that took a couple of detours before they came off the production line.

They are not precision instruments.

My scope is canted to the right, because one of my shims is higher than the other, should i shave it down? Or is this normal? Scope and mount both numbered to the rifle.

The only advantage is the scope is yaw axis adjustable. Naturally it means rifle gets more accurate by not always shooting off to the far right or something do to poor front sight post installation.

The harmonics of firing are much more important than the gun not moving.
