Anyone here ever chop a shotgun?
I have a $70 20 gauge bolt action that I'm considering chopping down. Pic related.

Good idea? Bad idea? Who-the-fuck-cares idea?

Anyways, post your SBS's and 18.1 inchers in this thread.
>>
I've chopped a few, some to SBS some to 18ish.

Putting a bead sight back on a barrel without a rib is the hardest part.
>>
>>30278510
Not worth it for a bolt action. If rate of fire could be obtained it wouldn't be a bad idea to have massive spread. But if you are taking the time to operate the bolt the. You might as well take a second and aim with precision. Alright idea if it was a pump or even a single or double shot to keep a compact trunk gun, but a bolt action would just be an Obrez

Something only a full fucking retard would attempt. Drill and tap, dingus.

Not even just for being a neato 18" bolt action shotgun?

It's a just for fun gun, really. I don't mind a harder challenge of hitting clays with it.

Just how much will chopping it down affect the patterning, do you think? It would be a cylinder bore choke, of course

I was going to modify an AK folding stock mechanism to go on it too. It would be bubba's version of pic related
>>
>>30278677
Provided you cut it evenly and deburr it, it'll be a cylinder choke. That is literally all.
>>
Don't do a hack job (literally)

how do you think they originally put sights and rails on guns.

Not sure if troll or retard. Troll I hope
>>
>>30278728
...drilling and tapping. But hey, if you think you can pull it off evenly and neatly go for it.
>>
>>30278677
Never thought to use my nugget pouches for shotgun shells, my SKS pouch would work well too.

>suddenly a barrel isn't a literal metal tube
>>
I have an oldschool auto 5 that I chopped to 18.5 and added a +2 tube extension, sanded down and refinished the metal on. Shortening the barrel and adding the tube on underneath rebalanced it really well. I don't recommend tearing them down beyond changing the friction rings though, internals are sharp as hell.

I did an 18.5 cut on my Stevens Model 58D, still need to re install the front sight post.

Nice.

I'm eyeing a $50 16gauge bolt action at a nearby lgs.

Then all I'd need is a 410 bolt action to complete my family - I already have a 20 and 12 bolt action

....wait, are there any 10 gauges?
>>
>>30279533
None that I have seen. I am thinking about trying a folding stock on this one.

I would get a pps43 stock with the intact trunnion.

Under 50 bucks on gunbroker

Then you cut the wood down so it kind of slides over, and you drill a hole for the bolt thingy
>>
>>30279648
How does it lock in place?

>>30279668
The hinge bolt has a hole.
The rear trunnion has a spring loaded pin that fits in the hole

Pretty simple stuff
>>
>>30279794
Could it actually work with my shotgun though? Would I need to get a new grip? My gun's OAL is about 29" and it can only lose 2.5 of those inches to be safe.
>>
>>30278716
>>30278940
I do plumbing, and those as advertised are intended for copper pipe and emt conduit. That would not any gun barrel steel. Except like you know a high point. Or a cobra. Jennings. You get the idea

Take it out of its stock and post a picture

You might be a better candidate for a vz58 stock

Make sure to include the rear of the receiver

does that just bolt on to the side of the stock?

1. Weld either the amd65 or vz58 stock plate onto the rear of your shotgun's trigger housing
2. Carve the stock so it can go on & fold
3. Cut off all of the wood once it starts to curve. Make it nice and flat on the bottom
4. Get an Ak grip and drill a hole for the bolt through the wood
5. Don't follow any of this advice and modify a 10/22 underfolding stock https://underfoldstocks.com/Products

>>30280430
It goes on like this

>>30280349
Remember, OAL is measured with folding stocks unfolded. So don't worry about OAL
>>
>>30280581
Are you sure?
>>
>>30280581
somebody is about to become a test case
>>
>>30280829
No, I think I can make it work, just barely.
>>
>>30280829
just saw a 12 gauge bolt action on armslist I may be able to get cheap. Thinking of how I can stick it in my truck better.
>>
>bump

My $50 Columbia Sidewinder, because it's still so goddamn heavy there's barely recoil.

>>30281196
Where the fuck do you people find shotguns for this cheap?
>>
>>30282355
Pawnshops have single barrel ones pretty often.

Just picked up a 60$ 20ga
>>
>>30281196
The end of the stock is shaped kind of like a bone, I like it.
>>
>>30282355
Look around
Up here in MA/NH all of the crusty gun stores have a few racks of old and beat up rifles and shotguns

I got a MINT condition, beautiful 12gauge bolt action for $90 at Affordable Firearms in NH

they have a lot of good stuff
