New to guns here, thinking about a dedicated trunk gun for my car. What's the role of a trunk gun to you and what sort of guns do the "trunk gun" role best?

I was offered a CETME FR-8, and thought it may fill the role nicely.
>>
A gun that I can get in case the handgun I carry on myself is not sufficient and I am driving through some place where I'm likely to encounter more than someone trying to hold me up for some pesos

Something like an MP5 or another subgun

In Ohio you can't carry a loaded rifle in a car, not even loaded rifle magazines. Shotguns also have to be unloaded if in a car. However, law specifically permits clips to be loaded, they just have to be out of the rifle. So, my suggestion is either a SKS or M48.
>>
>>30257211
Loaded magazines in a vehicle are perfectly legal in Ohio (as of 2013), so long as they are stored in a "complete and separate enclosure" from the firearm. Such an enclosure could be as simple as a pocket on a range bag.

NV law, can have rifle loaded, but nothing in the chamber. Since rifles aren't hammer fired, I wouldn't keep one in the chamber anyway.

Keep a draco 7.62x39 pistol with 3 mags behind the two front seats in the middle compartment.

Guns are made of metal, bullets are made of metal, and our boys in the middle east operate just fine without bullets spontaneously firing out of their ARs simply because it's hot.

Everything else doesn't really matter.

The sub2000 is classified as disassembled when folded and is good to go loaded like such.

No the AK denotes that. AK 47 very specifically denotes the first iterations of the AK family. Any other board it wouldn't matter but you're on the board where making that distinction is understood by people.
>>
>>30260522
Are you incapable of reading? Again, in accepted industry nomenclature, 47 is 7.62x39 and 74 is 5.45. Neither of those are technically accurate, everyone knows it, but it simplifies market classification and is as such the standard.

Only autists pitch a fit about it not being a ~real~ ak47.

Canada here, our only requirements against a trunk gun are that
>Ideally shouldn't be a Restricted gun (ARs and handguns, essentially)
>Unloaded when driving around
And that's it. Any thoughts? I was thinking a beater M305, Scouted SKS or an M44. Would a bolt-action gun be bad as a trunk gun?

I have been toying with the idea of a car gun but I am struggling to find a situation in which I would have time to get it out. Is it just for like emergency/bugout type stuff? I feel like any self defense would be "OH SHIT KILL THE THING" and I would just pull out my CCW. Or do you guys just not carry? What am I missing? I understand almost any long gun is going to out perform almost any handgun (at least in self defense calibers), but when would you actually use this gun?

To clarify, very few states ban F/A, due to the "No new MG's", and Antifuns are too retarded to look further. Now, concealed carry is generally explicitly limited to pistols, and open carry of shotguns, rifles and pistols are listed as OK. but whitelisting means no MG's for carrying. Varies by state. I think some have wording that doesn't forbid it.
>>
>>30264911
By "execute poor animals I hit but don't kill" I meant putting down any animals I hit with my truck that don't die. Nothing's sadder than watching a half crushed deer or coyote crawling around with its guts hanging out on a small rural road in the middle of the night. What's sadder is trying to have to find a big rock or something to put it down with while feeling like the biggest piece of shit because it's screaming for its pack/herd/animalistic God's.

But hey, it's easier to cry
>hurr durr poacher!
rather than actually reading and understanding that people leave their homes in giant metal boxes sometimes and it's not uncommon for wildlife to jump under the tires of said boxes when moving at freeway speeds.

I know what it fucking means. I speak English. I'm reading between the lines. It's called social skills.

Lots of poachers use .22 because it's quiet and they don't need to worry about clean kills since what they're doing is illegal anyway. It's a well known fact, anytime someone sees a .22lr or .22 magnum in the back of a truck it's always a wink wink nod nod.

Honestly, I'm kind of disappointed that someone anonymously posting about having a .22 in their truck (which is a whole lot more common in rural/agricultural areas than you'd think) sends your mind straight to poaching. Idk if you were raised in the suburbs or innacity or something, but .22s are common tools and poaching is severely severely looked down on where I'm from by sportsman and non-sportsman alike.

What's the point of a trunk gun?

Is it for when you road rage the fuck out? If somebody is attacking you in transit, you're in the cabin and won't reach it.

If you're in a parking lot, that's what CCW handguns are for. Why risk having it stolen?
>>
>>30268599
To have a long gun in your trunk, because some people have the land to just go hunt right after work any day or to be able to go and decide this look like a nice/safe place to shoot any day
and some people live in places where the crime rate is almost nothing so why worry about it being stolen.

It's not JUST "having a .22 in your truck" at all, period by itself end of story. It's having a .22 and talking about "fucking around innawoods" and then mentioning animals and just a general understanding that lots of low-lifes use .22s to go poaching and that's just kind of a social tenet that's generally accepted, mostly in the south but believe me even in the midwest or mountain west (UT, CO, WY, NE), if you say you carry a .22 in your truck for "fucking around with my friends in the woods," especially if you are wearing Realtree Crocs and/or anything in blaze orange and/or have dip in your mouth then yeah. People are going to look at you with crooked eyes and just nod slowly and everyone will understand what that means. Sorry you haven't experienced that but as I said before, that doesn't mean it's not true.

No one is going to do anything about it, that's the Ranger's/GW's job. Just when someone says something like that you get that understanding.
