M1 Carbine

In Ohio you can't carry a loaded rifle in a car, not even loaded rifle magazines. Shotguns also have to be unloaded if in a car. However, law specifically permits clips to be loaded, they just have to be out of the rifle. So, my suggestion is either a SKS or M48.

I have been toying with the idea of a car gun but I am struggling to find a situation in which I would have time to get it out. Is it just for like emergency/bugout type stuff? I feel like any self defense would be "OH SHIT KILL THE THING" and I would just pull out my CCW. Or do you guys just not carry? What am I missing? The cheapest single-shot 12GA I could find. I think the model is a FedArm SS12. It chambers 2-¾" & 3" shells. As you can see, it folds completely in half. The only thing I really don't like about it is that the opening lever is the trigger guard.
