Nice. I really want a used S&W, but I'm at the mercy of the used market here in CA for the most part, since importing is retarded.

Picking up a charter arms off duty today though, so at least I can live out some of my shitty crime noir fantasies.

If you are going to shoot 357 make sure it's 145 grain and above. Lighter weight magnums will erode and crack the forcing cone. Always be sure to clean the 6'oclock area of the cone vigorously

IS that the off duty or the undercover? I've been really confused. Some of them have the barrel come down and surround the rod while others have the rod free-floating. The one I'm getting is free-floating and described as an "off duty," but is it an undercover?
>>
>>30238681
This is the off duty. I think the shrouded ejector was more a generational thing than a model one. Charter has been through a lot of changes lol

I've shot it several times as it belonged to a friend before I bought it. It's several years old, it's one of the TGI imports with a Hungarian receiver and barrel. They were $450-$500 when they were available, I think they sell for $700-$800 now.
>>
Only thing I bought lately was a $100 OTD Plinkster 702. Bubba had done some "accurizing" to it with what I believe was bicycle handlebar tape wrapped around the barrel, a cheap BSA scope, and some Remington 870 weaver rails rigged into side rails for a picatinny rail bipod.

It's getting installed in a Sega Menacer shell.

Picked up a lower from Fleet Farm yesterday (already had the upper). They are having a half off sale on all their Huldra/Korstog AR-15 shit (due to change in ownership I imagine) so I got a $500 lower for $260. Of course, it was way fucking overpriced to begin with which is why it probably never sold until the sale.

Has a JP Trigger which is fairly decent and saves me from having to buy another Geissele trigger.

The argument against that is for most people, spending that much at once is going to mean that you're using all of your disposable income for a few months instead of putting most of it into retirement savings. Since you seem young, this is even more, not less, of a consideration.

Not that I'm one to judge, just trying to illuminate why a lot of people object to putting so much money into an item that can get lost/stolen/break.

>>
>>30240661
Made between 1920 and up till the early thirties. I bought mine off gunbroker only to find out the bolt was worn past the point of not engaging the cartridge stop and some one way back when drilled the receiver for a four hole scope mount. There was also some play in between the barrel and receiver. Bought a new barrel end for way to much and a new bolt assembly then sent it off to a gunsmith for the bolt to be fitted and have the scope holes filled. I also had the thing cerakoted matte black and it came back awesome. As for overall money invested in the thing is laughably too much to publically admit, but at the end of the day I rescued a great vintage shotgun in disrepair and fixed it up into my dream takedown shotgun. It's the ideal size for camping and hiking and fits well in my bag broken down.

>The first interchangeable barrel pistol produced was the W12, or the Dan Wesson Model 12 which was chambered in .357 Magnum. The barrels and shrouds for this model were interchangeable and used an exposed nut on the muzzle end to secure the barrel and shroud. The shrouds on these early models had an elongated flange which helped to center the barrel and properly secure it. Later, this design was refined into the Model 15 which still used the flanged barrel assemblies, but which had the nut recessed inside the flange in order to give the pistol a more conventionally finished look. Further refinements to the model 15 resulted in the Model 15-2 which is the most well known as well as the best selling Dan Wesson model. The 15-2 used a roll pin inserted into the frame as a centering dowel combined with a precisely drilled hole in the shroud assembly to facilitate proper shroud centering and alignment, thus eliminating the flanged barrel shrouds. The 15-2 also introduced more barrel offerings, including lengths of 2.5, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 15 inches, venting, ribbed shrouds, shrouds with full underlugs, and plain solid shrouds. The pistols could be ordered as "Pistol Pacs" with 3 (initially) and later 4 (or more) barrels shipped inside a fiberglass briefcase with barrel changing tool and clearance gauges; however, many pistols were sold with only one barrel- though owners could choose to purchase other barrels later.

I personally like the weight balance of the 13 better, and the sights are plenty accurate at 15m for even double action shooting.
>>
>>30240395
Oh wow. I was looking at these online. I knew they were smaller than normal PPK's but I didn't think they were like child's toy sized.
>>
>>30242156
Dry firing felt pretty good. Both in single and double action.
Tried a few other revolvers and most of them the triggers seemed a bit too stiff. I have 90 days anyway so I can keep checking in and out as needed once every other week or so to see what else they may have. Also been looking into Rhino's as well, but the grips looks awkward as hell.
I've also been thinking of just putting it towards a rifle.

All that said, what's wrong with the Taurus?
>>
>>30240259
I have one. It shoots surprisingly well for having the wire stock. The large muzzle brake probably has something to do with it.
Totally worth the money and now they have non-permanent full stock kits out too.
>>
>>30242480
Rhinos look like they won't work but the grips are actually okay. Still wouldn't buy one because they are super complex and odd.

The reason the taurus feel loose is because they are... Look up examples of poor Taurus qc. Plus the legendary video of their semi going off when it is shaken.

That video is what started the investigation and subsequent recall of all "millennium" series Taurus pistols. Taurus' biggest issue is the metal quality and qc of their guns. The go out of time faster, have poorer trigger pull, and worse fit and finish by far than the Smith and Wesson's they're based on. Are they cheap? Yes. Are they good? No, decent at best.

Noted. I haven't shot a revolver before, but I want to make sure I get a good one. I'll look around and do some research on it. Had a few of the guys at the shop recommend it though.

Was also told that bottom action (can't remember the term he used, but this sounds right) may be a good fit for me since I tend to pull up and to the right with pistols, and a revolver like that will force the recoil into my arm rather than up. It's a curiosity and they sometimes get them used. Bit pricy though.

There's also a used KSG at a different sop for around $800 which seems great, but I'm passing on it for now.

Thank you for the advise!
>>

If you want to break into revolvers do like >>30241500 said. Find a 4" medium frame. 357 revolver from a reputable maker (ruger/s&w) even used and if you decide to sell/upgrade you can almost always get your money out of it. Not gonna be true with a Taurus.

The short rails weren't so much made from "ultra hard metal" but rather, they were machined from a hammer forged block of steel.

In this sense, they are more durable as they are more dense and were never cast, unlike the current production models of CZ pistols.

For example, a hammer forged barrel can have the same Rockwell hardness as a button rifled CMV barrel (non forged), but the forged barrel will be more durable

I honestly want to believe this, you might not know it but we've talked a fair bit over the years. The only thing I really have in life is my love for firearms, and I really want to be a gunsmith, so you're kind of an inspiration in that regard. I'm drunk as fuck right now, which I should probably fix first, but at least for tonight, it's too late.

I guess I just wanted to say thank you for all the advice you've given me and for how much you've contributed over the years. One day I'm going to put together an AK and I'll use your videos to do so.

ps. that shortrail is dope.

Thanks again. I'll see what else they have in S&W since I wasn't fond of the ruger models they showed me. Tried a few dryfires with the S&W 15-4 that I liked.

gonna blast it and paint it. It's got some pitting on the outside, but the inside looks very clean. Doesn't look like it was shot much at all nor exposed to any harsh elements or conditions. Kinda odd, I guess it must have just been carried around as a police gun for a couple decades, thrown around in storage without proper care, but the interior was never exposed to the elements.

Thanks and no problem man, glad I can help, just keep pushing forward, I'm sure something good will come up.

the paint is also fully intact with no blemishes under the safety.

really makes me wonder

Err. Appears to be 40.

Look for a Dan Wesson revolver. They're great revolvers and you can change the barrel without a gunsmith to make it 2", 4', etc.. up to 8"+. You can make it what you want. You can find some going for around or under $500

Got this 1994 M500A at a police auction today for $170. I have no idea what the "20" carved into the stock means. I think it adds flavor though.

Could always get that Gattaca style leg extension surgery in China.

It's really not. It's refinished, FFS. Use some logic here
>>

There are many great semi automatic pistols for 5k and you buy the casual shit ones.

Will you now go to the range and show everyone how cool you are?
I bet you also bought a Titan X
>>
>>30247474
I guess. Still I've never seen one in such good shape privately owned.
>>
>>30245012
Probably case number or just something to organize it.

Picked this up for $350 at an auction yesterday. My dad bought one of those Ruger .44 semi auto carbines for $650.
>>
>>30247904
Not saying it's not in great shape, but it's worth about what you paid. You're not gonna double you money off of it

>Ruger .44 carbine

Sweet Jesus fuck I wish I was your brother. I've wanted one of those since forever and the only one locally has been for sale for about a year at $1200
>>
>>30251346
I looked over the .44 last night, and I'm about 95% sure it's unfired.
>>
>>30251322
To be fair I wasn't honestly planning on it. I wanna keep it since I love WWII memorabilia. It's just when I was doing my research on it I saw some in a lot worse shape going for a decent amount more. Were those prices high? Maybe. Just judging from what I saw online.
>>
>>30250512
Looks real good. I've always been a big fan of powerful pistol cartridges in carbines.
>>
OP here. Almost had another one... $800 for a 98% condition model 29 44 magnum. It was gorgeous... Gonna struggle to sleep tonight over it.

Got these guys.

SBS paperwork for the A5 is already in, taking it down flush with the magtube. Decided not to SBR the Calico cause the muzzle device is apparently pinned/welded on at 16" already.

I just got my first AK patter rifle last month, and with the way things are going, maybe my "only" model.

It came with a side accessory rail, so I'm looking to get a rail attachment and optics, as well as a muzzle brake and synthetic buttstock.

One or two rounds of ammo this week. More on the way
>>

This reminds me. I need to get some more ammo cans...

I decided to buy a Savage 64F today, because they were $99 at Cabela's.

I think it was a mistake.
>>
Recently bought 120 rounds of M193, 80 rounds of M855, and 50 of JHP 9mm. -yawn-
>>
>>30255902
I just got some more from aim they had them at a pretty good price. Don't know of they still have them in Stock or not.
>>
>>30252448
Those in worse shape going for more were non refinished and actually have matching SN.
>>
>>30244627
Took a look and while they seem to be great pistols, they are well and above my price range for a while.

For now I think I'll move that $100 to ammo and maybe a laser/ flashlight combo or just a laser for it along with a holster and a 4th mag if I have enough.

Wanted to start looking to build an AR-15 since CORE is literally a 10 minute drive away, but prices are going o spike thanks to the slime attack this weekend.
