Just bought a Springfield Range Officer Operator today. Paid $925 out the door, how'd I do?
>>
Which 9mm 1911 should I buy?
>>
>>30233242
If it's your first 1911, I'd say an RIA with the features or look you're going for. Otherwise, pretty much one from any reputable maker like Springfield should be good to go.
>>
>>30233261
Only other 1911 I have is a GSG .22
>>
>>30233277
I would highly recommend the Rock Island Armory 1911 then. I'd say pick the features you're looking for, IE do you want just a GI type 1911 in 9mm or do you want one with some better sights and a high ride beaver tail, and then you decide if you want a rail or not on it for lights or other accessories.

I'd look at the RIA ROCK series of 1911's for the 9mm you're looking for. If you have to have a rail on it, then look at the TAC series, though do be warned those can be difficult to find at times.

My nigga!
Just got some grips for mine, archangel aluminum black. Have the plus 4 follower and took a razor to the paint on the slide rails.

It's a beast, but after cleaning it the paints comming off fast.
Any advice folks? Thinking of polishing it all off and treating it with something.
>>
>>30233444
How is the Monolith? The range near me has a Premier for rentals and while I just got myself a Springfield RO Operator, I'm leaning to getting a Baer if I save up for a custom gun. Are those yours? If so, what do you think of them?
>>
>>30233475

the thing about Baer is you really don't get anything more than just the gun. you get a cardbord box and a sealed bag full of goo with a crappy magazine and a super tight 1911.

and honestly that's why they're my favorite 1911 manufacturer.
>>
>>30233475
They are mine. Only about 250 rounds thru the mono, still learning it.

It way outclasses me. Very soft shooting. It's about 43 oz empty compared to 36 or 37 for a standard 1911.

I got lucky on the trigger. My hemi has a great trigger, but not as good as the more expensive wilsons and nighthawks I've tried. The mono blows everything out of the water though. I've never seen another trigger as good as this one.
>>
What's the general /k/ consensus on the RIA 1911s? Not looking to spend a whole lot but still want a 1911 to play around with.
>>
>>30233542
In my area they run north of 500 for one with a beavertail grip safety. Springfields and colts start in the 650 to 700 range.

They are ok guns, but I would hold out for something a little nicer.
>>
>>30233542
they've cleaned up their rollmarks but they're not the only low budget option.
Ruger and Auto Ordnance are good deals and made in America to boot

Honestly, if the money's burning a hole in your pocket, they're rock solid for the price, pardoning my punnage here. I decided my 1911 had to be railed and so I went with a Springfield RO Operator but truth be told if a rail's not essential to your 1911 RIA isn't horrible. They've come a long way from where they were about even just a year or 2 ago.
>>
>>30233717
About 2500. If you don't have an ar or 1911 you could buy a Springfield loaded, a Colt 6920, and a thousand rounds for each for around that price.

Any one know which 1911 mags fit a 1991A1 Compact ?
The standard mags for it only hold 6 rounds. But I've heard it can take larger mags if they have the right stop catch to keep it from going too far into the magwell.
I'm just having a hard time tracking down mags that explicitly list the compatibility.

It was in the gun library, apparently they marked down the prices on almost all used items. Felt like sub $800 for any blued 1911 is a good deal. Only problem with it is the mainspring housing pin keeps on walking out. Either need a new one or to smack this one with a hammer and punch.

The pachmayrs grips are incredibly grippy though, even more so than a hogue. So it stands to reason that they would cling to shirts as well

How is the recoil on it? I was trying to decide if I got a 10mm or a .38 Super 1911. I want one in a somewhat special snowflake cartridge, and I know it'd be pricey but I just kind of want one.

Pretty good I reckon. I paid the same for my champion operator. Springfield has always been one of my favorite 1911 producers. Picked up my operator about a month ago and I've been carrying it since I broke it in. I've got around 650 rounds through it with only malfunctions cause by some crappy GI mags. I carry it with Wilson 8-rounders now.

Yeah I don't have any problem with the recoil. My girl even shoots it fairly well and shes not an experienced shooter

Glad you like it. It's a great gun and pretty cheap

Only thing I'd change is the finish, I'm not sure I'm sold on the parkerized finish, though I'd say it's a better park than the other parked guns I own so far, the only other example really being my Century Arms M74 Sporter, which flakes away if I sneeze too hard when holding it.

The operators aren't actually park'd. It's Armory Kote. It's like their in house cerakote job sort of. It's not nearly as easy to scratch as the parkerizing on some of their other 1911s. So far it's held up pretty well. I intend to take a couple of pistol classes and see how it holds up.
>>
>>30243176
Mine is a Range Officer Operator, which is indeed park'd. I know this to be true, SA's own spec sheet lists it as such.

>>
>>30243183
My mistake. My champion and other operators I handled had the armory kote. I suppose the ROs all are parkerized instead of koted. Also, sorry if I double post. My phone is being janky
>>
>>30243269
>>30243256
You did 2 round burst there, Anon. But it's okay.

I understand. Maybe I should've sprung for the MC or the Loaded Operators since they're Armory Kote'd but the Range Officer Operator clocked in under $1k for a railed 1911, I said what could go wrong?

I also almost got an idiot scratch since I've never properly taken down a 1911 before owning this one. Thankfully it was narrowly avoided....
>>
>>30243294
Yeah. I had a stainless loaded combat a few years ago that I wound up selling while I was in college, which I regret. It had a nice idiot scratch from my first time disassembling it. I had one above my eyebrow where I found out how to safely disassemble a 1911 with a 2-piece guide rod the hard way.

This champion operator makes me feel like I've got that loaded back.
>>
>>30243320
Ouch. That's rough, Anon. This RO Operator is my first 1911 and I decided if I was to have one, it needed a rail and preferably Novak type sights, but I'd settle for Bo-Mar type if that's all I could get and change them for a fixed Harrison rear sight later on and possibly the front with a FO sight.

The RO Operator met all of these expectations and my budget too. Only downside is it's park'd.

I love it though, I shake it and it doesn't make a noise. Not a single one.
>>
>>30243385
I almost grabbed a 9mm RO operator instead of my champion. I really don't think you can go wrong with either. I intend to eventually pick up a RO in 9mm, operator or not.
>>
>>30243423
I'm torn. I have a 1911 but no huge stock of .45, and a Walther P1 I pieced together out of parts and such, and a Makarov (I make poor decisions at handgun purchases), while the P1 has plenty of food, some 250 rounds or so, the Mak has hardly any since it's hard to find and I just got the RO literally yesterday. If I picked up another, I don't know what I'd get it chambered in.

I have a stainless Springfield G.I. model. I like it a lot. Pic is the only one I have on my phone.

I've got handguns in .40, 9mm, and .45ACP now, so I shall you just buy 500 rounds of whatever's on sale on PSA when the mood strikes me. I also have a tendency to stock up on 5.56 or .223, usually whatever's cheapest for plinking. Add in .22 and 12 ga, and I'm spread a tad thin across multiple calibers. I rarely shoot my AR and shotgun, honestly. Most of my range sessions are handgun on steel target practice, so I have a lot more handgun ammo. I just shot up all my 45 except for hollow points, so I'll probably order a ton on my next paycheck. I didn't mean to completely expend what I had, but that operator is just so much fun to shoot.

Pic related is exactly why I got a railed 1911.

I made it to fit me. I prefer the longer trigger and 1911 style grip safety. Fits my hand better. After I shot it for a while, I decided to make it right. See >>30243657
