No, it's about who gets hit and who doesn't. In that case, Dinkheller got hit a dozen times (9+ times in the arms and legs, once or twice in the face) and Brannan wasn't hit until the very end.

The reason Dinkheller died is not stoppin powa. It's because he took cover at the right rear of his vehicle, putting distance between himself and Brannan and missing every shot, allowing Brannan to rush him and wound him. Shooting a rifle at a distance (even if it's just 30 feet) is much easier than it is with a handgun, so Brannan had the advantage. That coupled with the stress was enough to make Dinkheller miss 32 shots out of 33.

If Dinkheller had hit his target with his first magazine, the vet would have been either disabled (only his chest and head were exposed) or more reluctant to rush him like he did in the video. The vet would have panicked and returned fire while staying at the driver side of his car, giving Dinkheller time to reload and maybe a chance of surviving the encounter.

Im a dummy, but in this scenerario should he have gotten closer? Or do you keep your distance?

Not reason enough to shoot anyone or even really go hands on with them. Up until the guy went back to his car is when the cop should have been worried, and either maced, or just shot the guy.

People get out of the car and try to meet you halfway all the time. ESPECIALLY grumpy old men like the guy in the video. If a "Please sir, get back to you vehicle, i'll be with you shortly" doesn't work you need to be on guard, but still, he didn't need to worry exactly.
