My guess would be because they've seen a steady decline in mk4 sales so they're limiting it to government only so they can mark the price up 3x like they did with the mk6/8.
Just one of the many reasons to buy a better optic from a better company for less.

It's pretty sad really, the leupold in that picture is the 3.5-10, the others are all 15x, the leupold should be the clearest by that prinicpal alone.

Old Redfields are great for basic shit and if you really want a "tactical scope", get something worth putting on.

Leupold is discontinuing sales of older product because they have newer better options available. There will be new products launched to fill any remaining voids. They are maintaining LE/Mil sales because they have written commitments to continue to do so. When those commitments expire so will the MK4 line. The MK4 line was getting tired compared to newer offerings from competitors. People have been crying for updates for years and now it is coming.

The fact that people are upset with a company attempting to update their product line in favor of newer improved products is mystifying to me.

Every company does this to stay current with the market.

I almost bought the Mk6 3-18 for my SR-25 but decided to go with the March 3-24 instead. The Mk6 seemed to be getting to much hit or miss user experience like most leupold models. C style turrets are cool though.

Most great things are polarizing

never liked leups that much. for th elongest time most of their good scopes with reasonable pricing seemed to have mismatched turret/reticle. their more expensive stuff doesn't compare to kahles or s&b, and for cheaper stuff i like the fixed power 6x swfa or the 2.5-10x mil/mil vortex. bushnell lrhs 3-12 & swfa 3-15x are decent enough as well.
