Yup actual rifling. Try looking into black powder historical text there are a few ways to make rifling in a primitive way.
Remember primitive doesn't necessarily mean bad either, you won't be making a thousand yard match barrel but rifles of the day could still do a lobster back in from 300yards.

I'm a physicist, and I've made thermite many times using that exact formula. Technically, it's 27 parts aluminum to 80 parts FeO, but 8:3 works just as well.

I'd recommend 30 micron aluminum powder btw.

Simply gather some rust (it's everywhere) and sand down an aluminum bar with 200 grit paper.
