A gun is simply a tool. One with many uses. It may be employed as a weapon or a deterrent however that is completely up to the operator. Guns are weapons they were originally designed with military purposes in mind in china. A guns main purpose is to shoot lead at a high velocity down range, with the intent to hit things. Marksmanship is a martial art much like archery and fencing and karate . While you do not need to partake in violence to do so the intention is that by practicing you will be able to defend yourself and inflict volience on someone else. There is nothing wrong with this considering that our history is written upon the blood and bodies of billions of dead men. continuing my rant. I like guns they are weapons, op and as such must be treated with the respect and dignity they deserve unlike tools. I leave my hammer out in the hot sun and occasionally lose track of where it is and don't really maintain it because, it is not something of great consequence and is not valuable and is cheap. Guns though I oil it I clean it I never lose track of it and I secure it. Because it is a weapon, it represents the Pinnacle of power that I as a free citizen of the united states can own. It was one of the most important changes in our modern history all because of the firearm... So give it the respect it deserves.
