Haven't seen this thread in a while but what does /k/ think of gas masks?
Are they pointless considering most chemical weapons can affect exposed skin as well?
What about for tear gas in a possible government takeourfuns scenario?
Not totally useless, but very situational and you probably won't get much use of it.
That said you will find a lot of /k/kommandos who own one because of cool factor/SHTF fantasies.
I did use one on my trip to Chernobyl though.

They're hot and uncomfortable especially with the rest of your MOPP gear on, even if you sit at a desk in a climate controlled room. Lord help you if you have to hustle in the sun and heat, you might be one of the several yearly casualties.

Also, inb4 3M shill #

Shill aside, pretty much anything 3M makes is god-tier, especially since in my line of work I've gotten to use the cheap versions of the same products 3M makes
Can I use one of those cheap surplus ones if I'm exploring old abandoned buildings that might have bad particles in the air? I would think that would be a real use for them.

They look cool but that's about all you'll get out of them.

I bought an m10 the other day.

can anyone confirm this as useful?
>>30182155
They're unpleasant to wear, and nothing more than bulky deadweight if you don't end up using them. But if you do end up using a gas mask, it might be saving your life.

That MCU mask is garbage. Nobody ever mentions it but the seals rot before the get to people
i like gasmasks
here are pictures of my gas masks

Of course they are useful, but situational depented. You have to consider the knowhow to use them properly and also the decontamination procedur after being contaminated with nbcr-agents. Mask itself is useful but you would also want to invest in suit.
During army conscription, I was hazmat intelligense squad leader. It is not so terrible to wear those 6 hours straight but in the summer heats and during winter it can get unconfortable.

i remember standing in my own sweat, but ey atleast it is cold at the moment you take off the gear.

If you're exposed to any chemical agent and have a quality protective mask it'll help. You won't have any issues with tear gas assuming you have a proper seal.
It really, REALLY sucks when you have to run with it on though.

No. Military gas masks are basically useless for industrial chemicals.
They are ONLY designed for some chemicals, namely weapons. Beyond that they may as well be rags over your mouth
