Pretty gimmicky. Just stick it in a regular suitcase. Takes .3 seconds more to get it running and you don't have a big dumb handle on top of your gun, nor did you spend all that money rigging one up.

If you need that fraction of a second to get shooting, you already fucked up.

>>
What seems like a smarter optic buy for the money?

- Obzor ($460)
- Any other American optic (price of the rail must be included)
>>
>>30177551
Depends on how usable you want it to be. Obzor sure is neat but it's just not comfy enough to shoot with.
>>
>>30175884
What lower hand guard is that on the 107?
>>
>>30177617

Delicious AK-9 handguard, friendo.

>>30177603

Is it because it's so high up? I'm drawn to the Obzor because of its apparent longevity and simplicity, and the fact that I wouldn't have to purchase a rail separately if I got one.

I'm just concerned whether this thing functions properly indoors, and whether the Russian theory of "having your face high up to improve your field of view while shooting" is better than a good cheekweld.

My intent is to use this thing as a hardy, long term SHTF sight.
>>

>>
>>30177663
Unless you have a helmet on that makes it impossible to get a good cheek weld, stick with something that is as close to the irons as possible, or get yourself a cheek riser (band-aid).

But my thought is when you train with your rifle you want to keep things consistent. You should always be familiar with using your irons, so why re train your brain to hold your head up much higher when using a dot?

For longevity and durability, an Aimpoint is much more reliable than any comblock optic ever will be. Paired with an RS regulate mount, it will give you the lowest possible mount on an AK, which is lower 1/3rd co-witness.

If you want to take cool pictures to post on here then get the Obzor.

Min has a bulge like that, not as big though. If it functions okay then rifle is fine.

Still rather bullshit that Arsenal can't make a cleaner rifle for 1000-1100 bucks. The hardiness of their parts is their saving grace, imo.

I've got a second Obzor coming in Monday, and the hunt for a Soviet faceted 74 brake is on.

I'm was genuinely considering selling all of my non-plum mags (about a dozen Bulgarian sanitized black painted Russian plums and about another dozen black (10) mags) and only buying plums, but that would be too much effort for something that really only concerns looks and not function as (10)s are perfect and the sanitized mags are great as well. Plums are just a best tho

Where's the cheapest, bang for the buck AK out there? I'm starting from scratch, and need to get everything I need at once, so I also wanna know where you recommend buying ammo.

How to reflex sight: I used a reflex sight for years and can't go back to ironsights, any tried and true tips?

Finally, bayonets: Yes or no? I know there's no point but just wanted to know your opinions

either find a local gunstore and inspect the rifle, or order online and inspect before accepting the transfer.

check the sights for cant, mag well, rivets and safety lever.

people use CLP to clean the carbon off, i use ballistol buts it all the same in the end. if you shoot corrosive ammo you need hot water and a hairdryer before lubing up

>pic related its a wasr
>>
>>30182020
1 Make sure it has a side scope mount
2 rest the rifle on both the front and rear sight if all four corners made by the sights are on the table your sights have no major cant

Your done, wasr's where never shit but they have always been a cheap rifle that has been imported in many configurations.

No, no you do not. That's a horrible way of thinking and you're going to end up with a shitty AK with shitty accessories unless you've got some coin to drop. Buy it and build it up like people do with ARs, or make sure that you've got all the money for all the best shit.

It seems to me the best bang for your buck in this day and age would be a DDI AK, unless you want to spend the extra money and get an Arsenal or spend less and get a What A Shitty Rifle.

>Bayonet
It's a novelty. You've got no purpose for one and affixing it will do nothing but put weight on the front of your rifle. If you want one to just sit there so you can occasionally admire the rifle with it on, then go for it, but otherwise it's useless.

>>
>>30185745
That post is mostly just banter making fun of some of the exaggerated complaints about Arsenal SLR-104FRs and SLR-107FRs. I'll break it down though for you.
>pay $1k+ for a rifle
People tend to view AK's as "cheap commie rifles" so $1k seems like a lot.
>the finish boils off
A few batches of SLR-104FRs and SLR-107FRs had finish issues where the finish on the barrel would bubble a bit if you mag dumped 3 full mags one after another.
>the trigger is shit
Arsenal triggers are a fake 2-stage. Essentially there is a small ledge that the trigger has to overcome on the hammer and it can cause issues.
>tons of canted sights
The front sight blocks, gas blocks, and rear sight blocks on all AK's are pressed and pinned on. Sometimes they're not put on straight and thus have some cant to them. When buying an AK you want to check for cant.
>egged FCG holes
Since AK receivers (most) are a stamped piece of steel with forged trunnions that hold all the important parts... well the FCG group pins can open up the holes in the receiver IF they're not heat treated right but that takes literally thousands of rounds to usually show up
>fucked rivets
Either rivets that aren't formed right or are ugly.
>they rationalize this and claim to enjoy it
Jews
>>
>>30185745
>Arsenals are overpriced for their deficiency's
>Arsenal occasionally fails to do the prep work properly before finishing their rifles and it quickly falls of
>Arsenals triggers are known to have reset issues
>Arsenal has canted sights the same as a $600 WASR for double the price
>Arsenals can fave the trigger pin accidentally oversized
>Arsenals don't have riveting any better than a $600 WASR.

WASR. Always start with a WASR. Preferably a newer GP WASR-10.

They're cheap(er) than the more expensive Arsenals, Veprs, or boutique AKs, yet will still truck along and do their job. They are very hardy and reliable. They used to go for under 500, but a combination of it being an election year and the quality control on them being bumped up has forced the price a little higher. Try to get one for under 700, or you'll be overpaying.

Do NOT get an RAS-47 or I.O. You are literally asking for your face to get blown off.

Learn to check for front sight canting, general fit and finish, and make SURE that the gun is properly headspaced before you buy it.

Learn your gun, get lots of mags, and even more ammo.

Getting together the smaller parts for my AK74 build.

Is there any reason NOT to go with an AKT over the G2 aside from price? Or is it pretty much 100% good to go.

It will be going in a Bulgy 74 kit.
>>
>>30187335

the AKT is very light...so its prone to bumpfire.

As Jim Fuller mentions on his Website:

"The AKT will lighten the trigger pull relative to a stock trigger, which will make the firearm easier to discharge. You must recognize and accept this fact before installing this trigger. If you do not want a lighter than stock trigger pull, or are not willing to accept responsibility for the safety of your firearm, yourself, and those around you, do not install this tigger."
>>
>>30187372

So go with the G2?

I'm not looking for a superb trigger here. Just one that works well and is 922R.

RAK-1 from Buds is $25 right now. Use the stock braided wire instead of the single wire included in the kit.
>>

Get the AKT!!! G2 is shit compared, and if for some reason you're worried about it being too light they come with a spring to add weight (mine feels about stock AR trigger weight, kinda wish it was lighter)

AKT is the best trigger. Regardless of price.
If you're worried about this shit >>30187372 there's an auxiliary spring in the AKT kit >>30179249 to make the trigger pull a bit heavier.

At 9.8k on mine. Mix of both premium brass and loltula. Biggest issue I've had is the factory trigger spring wearing out. Ones made after 2014 or so seem to be on par with nice WASRs.

I.O. could have been good, but they had to crash their reputation with no survivors. Now all they get is gamblers and people wanting project rifles.

This.

Its probably the finest AK trigger on the market that's not some totally custom fitted job. But its VERY light. You will not be forgiven if you don't practice good trigger discipline.

What's the best aftermarket Beryl-style top rail? I'm thinking of getting one for my Tantal because finding the a Tantal side-rail is impossible.
>>

Seriously? The G2 in my shitpiece Lancaster is way heavier than the AKT I threw in my 107FR.

The AKT in mine breaks easier than the hip bone of a kid with progeria.
>>
>>30189289
If I could post the video I would show you but it so light that it can sometimes double of even triple fire
>>
>>30189289
Yeah seriously, fuck AKT. Faggot gucci AR target trigger. RAK is just like the G2 but better casting. Has take up, crisp brake. Perfect for an AK.

Should I get a single hook or a double hook Tapco G2? Is there any difference?
>>

If you buy an Arsenal, Vepr, Rifle Dynamics, or any other AK in the four figure range, you've forfeited your right not to be called a guccifag.

Might as well go all in and shove an AKT in there.

NDS-65
NDS-6
NDS-2
NDS-2SF

These NDS receiver models have two trigger slots:

Their '74 receivers are NDS-2 so they use a single hook trigger.

Whatever, that's the only thing nobody complains about in the C39 etc, the trigger is breddy gud. Who cares who makes it, before the AKT everyone raved about the G2 *cough tapco*

Chink milled trigger best trigger senpai, perhaps best fielded in a service weapon lads.

I wasn't saying it was a bad trigger.
Just that the AKT is nicer, subjectively anyway.

Well it was/is better than the Arsenal trigger, which was about the only other trigger on the market at the time, besides surplus.

Took my krink to Nuggetfest and whored it out.

Tapco G2 trigger gave one of the people shooting it a 2-shot string of what seemed to be full auto. I've had close together AD's with the G2 before where I've accidentally double tapped because the reset is so light and finicky, but this was actually at the fire rate that it was hard to tell it was 2 shots and not just a single shot. When James Yeager made the video bashing the G2's for malfunctioning and shooting full auto I dismissed him but now I think he may have been right on this. Really would like to replace my G2's now in the ones that have them.

So what's the big advantage of the 90 degree ak-74 style gas block vs the older 45 degree akm gas block?>>30189509
>>
>>30189948
Prevents bullet shearing in 5.45x39.
>>
File: image.jpg (285KB, 800x572px)
image.jpg
285KB, 800x572px
>>30189948
The difference is not only in the gas block but the gas port itself. The gas port for a 45° gas block is drilled at the same angle. AK-74's were originally made with a variation of the 45° gas block but it was discovered that the angle was causing shearing on the jackets of the 5.45 bullets. It is also due to the fact that it is much easier to manufacture the barrel and gas block when drilling the holes at right angles.

Almost every design change in the AK rifle throughout the years can be attributed at least in part to making the rifle faster and cheaper to manufacture. The entire idea of the AK-74M was to make an AKs-74N cheap enough to make it standard issue.
>>
>>30189984
>>30189969

Interdasting. So from an end user standpoint, a 90 degree gas block in a 7.62x39 chambered AK (like an slr-107) doesn't mean dick?
>>
>>30190022
Correct, it's simply aesthetic, that the end user may or may not prefer.
>>
>>30189948
>>30189969 this
but that's just one feature that would make me pick an arsenal over a wasr in 545x39
>>
>>30187286
this bullet for reloading ! How did you do ?
>>
>>30190104
The Wasr-2 actually has a 45° gas block that works in tandem with a slightly repositioned 90° gas port, so there is no issue.

Chimps, If you have a surplus trigger, assemble it on the sleeve, and compare it to a similar G2. note the disconnector angle. Mine was in a similar state, where it would sometimes double tap. A minute or so working the bottom of the disconnector resolved it (I also polished the top just to make sure the added angle wasn't negatively affecting things).
