A friend of mine bought one that someone had already cut down the stock on and turned down the bolt. He bought the Archangel stock and made a rifle like the one in your pic. He also had the front sight cut off and the barrel threaded and put a muzzle break on it.

Makes for one fun target rifle. Was cheap to shoot until everyone started to snatch up the cheap surplus ammo.

Besides, millions were made so who cares? Nuggets are not that great or rare to start with. At least the Archangel stock looks decent and allows for a better trigger to be used and a detachable magazine.

The carrying handle rail is meant to mount optics on fixed carrying handles. Not detachable ones like in the pic. It means they could have just detached the handle and attached the optic. Besides being absolutely pants-on-head retarded, if the carrying handle isn't on just so, it could fuck with the zero. Even if the purpose was, say, to clear the red dot's line of sight, they could have gone through the extra tiny bit of effort and just detached the front sight post, seeing as how it obviously wasn't going to be used. But the way this person set it up indicates that they weren't exactly going to deduce that by themselves anyway.

Being bundled up against the hell that is -40 with ungodly windchill makes everything cumbersome and retarded, having a higher sight picture is awesome. I machined a block of 6061 to make a riser so I can mount my Crossfire II and still see through it, when I'm not in the moon suit I just take it off and put the scope back where it was. They can even be a good investment, but that usually succeeds only if one knows both the rifles and the market really well. On the long run historical items do not tend to loose their financial value since they only get rarer over time...
