Worked for a company that maintained a couple warbirds.

Defueling the particular bird (OV-1d) for an aft boost pump change was always fun, because there was always enough fuel to get all fucking over you while you laid in the fuselage getting the fucking thing's seal to break. Brought a change of clothes to work every day, and usually used it on the days where I had to do fuel system work.

Deployments depends entirely on what the unit's role would be. My home state tended to go to Saudi or Germany. My current nearest unit goes to the southern ice wall. Next closest one (out of Drum) goes wherever the fuck the air force needs bodies. Also consider guard vs reserves as a lot of states give education and other benefits the reserves never see

Then there are all the benefits, the 30days of paid leave, EVER holiday weeked off and you can see the world (even in peace time if you know how to fill out a 4187 or use MAC flights).

Its an okay job, a lot of good technical certifications if you decided to stay in.

Well, if you are going to go CBRN, I would recommend the enlisted side, and stay in long enough to get the HAZMAT awareness, ops, and tech certification. Those are going to help you on the civilian side, especially if you want to work as a firefighter or if you want to work with FEMA or federal hazmat teams. The tech escort school will come in handy too, but the unit I was in had a hard time requesting slots for it.

As an officer you are relegated to a more supervisory roll, if you get lucky and do platoon leader time first.
God help you if you get nothing but staff positions.
The enlisted side requires you to put up with a lot of bullshit going pv1-spc, but as long as you show you are willing to do your part, make an effort in everything you do, and stay squared away you will be fine.
If you take initiative and show you are high speed, you might get lucky and get some good school slots.
Generally, just don't be stupid either way you go and you will be fine. As enlisted though, you will generally do cooler stuff. Drive the big vehicles, shoot the different weapon systems, etc.

Choose something that you will enjoy doing, be it officer or enlisted.
As an officer, you get paid more than enlisted.
Pay doesn't discriminate by MOS. An e-4 human resource specialist is going to have the same base pay as an infantryman, artillery gunner, tanker, CBRN soldier or supply clerk.
Note how I said base pay. If you go to say, Germany, you are going to get a little more money than someone serving at Fort Benning, or Irwin because you are overseas. The COLA, BAH, etc are going to be a little more.
My biggest emphasis though is choose a job you will enjoy doing, and you won't wake up every morning and want to jump off the 6th floor of your barracks.

Sounds like your unit is shit. It is actual work, but that doesn't make it better. It's literally doing half a dozen additional MOSs on top of your own. There were 74Ds in the CBRN course with me, transpo soldiers in UMO with me, armorers in the armored supervisor course with me, etc. and until you're a W3, you'll be searching the woods, standing in formation, going to bullshit pt, etc.
