Looking for some advice on a general-purpose shotgun for my home.
I previous had a Remington 870, and it was great. That being said, I no longer have it :(
I'm looking for a shotgun that fulfills the following criteria:
>12 ga
>Capable of firing versatile loads
>Good for outdoors, occasionally
>Short barrel (20 ish or less) for home defense
>Workhorse (durable, simple)
>Economical (under $500)
I'll be using it for home defense and occasional small game hunting (possibly large game with slugs, but from less than 50m for most shots).
I'm leaning towards the Mossberg 88, but I was just curious to see if anyone knew of some good alternatives to compare against.

So yes. the 590A1 is made primarily for military use, so it's a tank of a shotgun.

Only the Navy would ask Mossberg to change the design of their shotgun to make the barrel resistant to being slammed in ship doors instead of just stopping slamming their shotguns in the doors of their ships.
