VL Pyörremyrsky ("Whirlwind"/"Hurricane") was ordered in 1942, it was intended as a domestic fighter with similar performance to Bf-109, the only prototype to be built flew 35 times & proved to fullfill the requirements set for it, but by the time it was finished the war had ended & Finland was under obligation to reduce the strength of its military, leading to cancellation of various projects as planes had to be scrapped & FiAF wanted to play safe by keeping proven designs instead of funding risky developement programs for new aircraft while scrapping perfectly good aircraft (this came to bite FiAF in the ass as the Messerschmitts started to fall apart by early '50s as their airframes had never been intended to be flown as long as FiAF had used them, and there were no replacements airframes nor spare parts to be found anywhere.)

Pyörremyrsky had a wider & sturdier landing gear than Messerschmitt, it was nicknamed "Puu-Mersu" "wooden messerschmitt" due to the fact that it used the same engine & resembled Bf-109 & was made largely out of wood, the plane's biggest problem was the poor quality of war-time glues used in its construction.
>>
come on, does /k/ seriously have no favorite military planes that never entered service even though they 'should have'?
>>
>>30085009

I got your back mein neger

The He 100, boasting Hellcat tier performance in 1939. Never entered service due to Messerschmitt lobbying.

based on what Wikipedia says about the plane it looks very promising, if it was good enough for IJN to decide to start production soon after they received few prototypes, it can't be bad.

I am sad that the MiG-1.42/1.44 didnt enter service.

Might actualy have been a good competitor for upgraded Flankers in Russian service and in the rest of the world in general.

The Mil V-12 doesnt make me sad but it make me rage at the Soviet MoD and i am pissed off at what kind of capability it could have been but didnt.

Boeing's TFX proposal looked so much cooler than the F-111.

I pick the Vought 1600 - the navalized F-16 variant that lost to the F/A-18.

Looks like a Bf. 109 fucked a P-40. I kinda like it.

project pluto count?

Ignoring how crazy it was, pluto would have set a standard for nuclear long range high endurance crafts. It would have meant we had the tech to build something like it.

90 minutes from new York to Paris
Under sea by rail
A just machine to make big decisions
Programed by fellas with compassion and vision
We'll be clean when thier work is done
We'll be eternally free, yes and eternally young.

If the DO335 had been produced in sufficient numbers it could have won the air war over europe. ME262 was an expensive meme

I'm always surprised at how fucking huge that thing is.
>>
>>30088332
>in sufficient numbers
Yeah, and they could have won the air war with Sopwith Camels if they had sufficient numbers of that too.

The Do 335 wasn't all that ground breaking, regardless of it's record-breaking performance. Superweapons don't win wars - logistics and industry do. Germany lacked the industrial base to compete with any of the powers they went up against.

>>30088667
2,000,000 Sopwith Camels vs 4000 BF109s

who wins?
>>
>>30088667
With an inferior industrial base what Germany needed was force multipliers to make advances by enemy forces against Germany prohibitively expensive. U-boats backed by long range reconaisance planes in the Atlantic. Self-propelled anti-tank guns on the eastern front and advanced aircraft with skilled pilots over western europe. Even with its inferior numbers Germany still inflicted heavy casualties on allied bombing raids causing them to be called off. Imagine what a mess a few hundred DO335s could cause
>>
>>30088807
The Camels. You just stagger the sorties such that there's always a retarded amount in the skies and then strafe the Bf 109s once they inevitably return to base. It's what the Soviets did in a couple theaters and it worked incredibly well.

>>30088819
>causing them to be called off
Very briefly, and only until escort fighters became available.

>Imagine what a mess a few hundred DO335s could cause
Not much at all, because the minute their operations really pick up, the full force of the bombing campaign is going to be diverted to stopping them.

It's like with the Me 262. The Me 262 very briefly did manage to achieve the kill ratios necessary to make them capable of stopping the bombing campaigns (assuming they got enough aircraft into service). But the Allies learned really fast, and just started hitting the Me 262s where they were vulnerable and all of a sudden it was faring no better than any other German fighter.

That's the problem I always have with the
>if Germoney did X they could have won!
scenarios. It always assumes a retardedly unrealistic advantage for the Germans while the Allies inexplicably sit with their thumbs up their asses like nothing's changed.
>>
>>30088932
After the failure of Operation Case Blue Germany lost any hope of winning the war and probably What Germany could have done is grind down Soviet offensives to dust and avoid wasteful offensives like Kursk. Even with Hitlers interference Walter Model was still very effective at halting Soviet advances. From what I remember the 335 could have been introduced a lot earlier and in greater numbers but was a victim of politics in the Luftwaffe. I guess what would have made the graetest difference is if the Luftwaffe could get a reliable supply of quality avoation fuel instead of the low octane rubbish they deat with but once again that would have hinged on capturing the soviet oil fields.
>>
>>30088332
Germany could have been flying F-22's and the fucking millennial falcon and it still wouldn't stop the vatniks from buttfucking their women.
