Weapon shield is the best in wear prevention.
>>
10w30 or 10w40 non synthetic motoroil

or if running something with alot of room (like an ak or m1a) a high temp lithium based grease
>>
>using oils
Enjoy your runny shit. Auto grease for life.
>>
>>30084269
KY Ultimate
>>
>>30084269
Olive oil
>>
>>30084302
Did u just dunk that entire spring in grease
>>
>>30084269
I use baby oil.
That way the gun knows what to shoot at.
>>
EP lithium grease on my AR, Glock and Mossberg 500. A $3 16 oz tin will last for years.

I've never had problems with high round count sessions (500-ish) using oil (M-Pro7) in the AR or Glock, but a weekend of clays (300+) needed a re-lube on the Mossy because the action became too slow to let me hit the pair. Moved to grease on everything and haven't had a problem since.

And yes, I agree, I have boring gun tastes. I spend money on ammo instead.

yes, he did.
>>
>>30084574
>he doesn't know when to use oil and when to use grease
>he also doesn't know how to use oil properly
For oil I use either dexron 2 or 3 ATF for a heavier oil, and triflow for a light oil.
Grease I use weapon shield or lathe grease. The weapon shield smells delicious so I use that more than lathe grease.

>>30085425
what does it smell like

Engine oil isn't designed to perform at the temperatures firearms typically experience.

>>30085487
Atf smells nasty but it's the only thing I use because I haven't run out yet and it's a decent overall lube. I put my Atf is a spray bottle to make it more controllable
>>
>>30085819
The smell of heated up clp mixed with gunfire sends me straight into nostalgia mode but I don't use it very often
>>
>>30085859
Isn't it going to be running hotter?
>>
>>30084269
I hear bad Dragon makes some good lube.
>>
>>30084269
Clean with Ed's Red. Lube with ATF/Kerosene mix, or axle grease depending on the wear characteristics of the part in question.

Clean black powder fouling with boiling water then Ed's Red.

Use industrial ammonia to clean copper fouling. Flush with water. Clean as before.

Slip 2000 and Ballistol. Rem Oil didn't do so well. Ballistol smells less like rotten beaver ass once you realize it's anethol oil and it's the scent of licorice. Anyone who says it smells like pine forest has nerve damage because I'm in NC and I've never smelled a forest that rank, even on fire.
>>
I clean with bore tech and oil with slip2000, fuck wasting time with other options, I've tried them all and nothing comes close.

I use red mobil 1 syntehtic grease for lube. Eezox for rust prevention.
>>
What's a good cheap oil for rubbing down on metal bits that will see longer term storage? My 91/30 and sks sit in the corner and my bolts end up with s very very light rust when I'm not looking at them.

Could I just use a coat of some cheap w30 motor oil, or should I get something thicker, or thinner? I get wholesale prices on industrial lubricants
>>
I'd say Fireclean but I'm trying to cut down on my cholesterol and trans fats.
>>
>>30086482

Mobil 1 synthetic grease rubbed in thinly. It will not evaporate like oil will and is very cheap. A tube that will last you a lifetime costs about $12 at your local auto store.

that is humor right?? wd 40 has water in it and causes guns to rust
>>

>>
>>30084269
slip2000
>>
>>30087235
I thought it stood for 'wipe-down' compound.
>>
>>30084269
Been using ballistol since the 90's because I didn't want toxic shit on my skin and spray can, call me lazy was great for just drenching the gun, waiting 5 minutes and then just using a rag; get called out for being weird for using exotic import.

2010's comes around and everyone is using various snake oils the color of the rainbow and beyond.

What the fuck happened?

It's like being a Greenbay Packer fan from the beginning and sticking with it no matter what and now everyone is going nuts over team loyalty.

WD-40 was developed in 1953 by Norman Larsen, founder of the Rocket Chemical Company, in San Diego, California. 'WD-40' is abbreviated from the term 'Water Displacement, 40th formula', suggesting it was the result of Larsen's 40th attempt to create the product. The spray, composed of various hydrocarbons, was originally designed to be used by Convair to protect the outer skin and, more importantly, the paper-thin balloon tanks of the Atlas missile from rust and corrosion.

Ballistol.

If it worked for the Waffen-SS it works for me.
>>
I'm gonna have to swear by Corrosion X, best stuff I've ever come across. I've got a lot of parkerized guns and you can literally watch it suck surface rust off the metal and it stays on in a layer for a month or more if it's not handled, as well as providing good lubrication for internal parts. Also smells like roller coasters
>>
>>30087037
WD 40 Specialist got good results in rusting tests. Can't remember where I saw it but I got some.

Carbon killer is the only thing that takes the rings off the cylinder face on my revolvers without having to use some type of abrasive. Other than that one application, Ballistol for everything else.

So when is it appropriate to use oil and when is it appropriate to use grease?
