With active protection, a fv101 could take a lot of abuse, and with LAHAT missiles, it could outrange a conventional tank. Plus, it can be transported by helicopter because its less than 35,000 lbs.

In the space of a 105mm turret you can fit 4 guys. So swapping it out of a common chassis for a 20mm gives you the option of creating an ifv.
