There are a surprising number of well known Hollywood stars that are pro gun.

>Brad Pitt gives awesome presents. Pitt spent close to $400,000 to build a shooting range/armory for Angelina Jolie, his bride-to-be, at the couple’s Miraval estate in southern France, according to The Sun.

They don't get a lot of attention though because it doesn't fit the viewpoints of the people doing entertainment news.

I saw Collateral and i enjoyed it, it had some good throw backs to heat but never really comes anywhere close.

I loved the scene in Heat where they are overlooking the city, it gives you "that feel"

Very nice, anon. How you like the M&P? Looking into getting an AR
>>
>>30058548
∞ Yes. Neils whole character was so cool, he followed his ideals knowing the damage they would cause. Vincent Hanna was a good character too.

Honestly that whole movie loved so much. My year book quote for high school was the 30 seconds flat quote.

>>30058557

So far im loving it, no complaints or problems except that ammo is a lil expensive.
>>
>>30058557

Not him, but I dig mine. It's not perfect, but it's not exactly bargain bin, either.

I almost regret not getting the Ruger for my ridiculous brand loyalty there, but S&W make decent guns.
>>
>>30058575
It was interesting knowing they were based on real people. The Hanna blowing his cover in the delivery truck is apparently a true story Mann got from a Chicago cop chasing the real Neal McCauley
>So far im loving it, no complaints or problems except that ammo is a lil expensive.
The price is whats attracting me to the M&P desu but then quality issues are concerning me. I'm gonna look more into them, thanks.

>>
>>30058605
yeah the whole diner scene was real too, i can only imagine what that must have been like in real life, the tension.

The attention to detail for not only the shootout, but the characters is amazing. They had ex SAS guys come in and give lessons on how to shoot, use cover and communicate, etc.

They even went into banks and were looking for weak spots in the banks system. One of the guys, the action loving guy even said that "it was unbelievable how they didn't know what we were doing."

I feel like what made Heat so great wasn't only the directing and the acting but the fact that there was so much history behind it and so many stories of individuals that were real and unique that when they were all combined into a movie like this, it was just fantastic.

It makes me sad that this movie didn't win more awards, it really deserves more.

Not one Oscar but hey, on the bright side it did win a Chicago Film Critics Association Awards

>>30058742
Still, should be required viewing.
>>
>>30058756
For me, what really cemented the movie in my mind was that Neil was willing to follow through with his beliefs, the scene coming out of the hotel when he goes back to his car and he is given a choice to either try and take his girlfriend with him or leave him, but it goes back to his 30 seconds quote. For him the heat was literally around the corner and he had to run, and he did. To me that scene gave me a feeling combined with satisfaction and respect, along with some sense of pride. No other movie ever did that for me, and still hasn't.

I haven't seen Public Enemies since it was in theaters but I remember thinking the gunfights had great audio and it was the best prohibition movie to come out since The Newton Boys. The big dick status of the BAR throughout the movie was cool to witness. And I think Johnny Depp is pro fun.
>>
>>30057139
I'm with >>30057977, it wasn't all that operator. Fairly slow moving, very little action, and the main character was just along for the ride for the whole thing. She didn't do shit.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it to a degree, and I REALLY appreciate that they tried to make it more believable and real than just another "hurr durr WOMYN power" fest, but I definitely wouldn't call it an operator movie.
>>
>>30058822
>I think Johnny Depp is pro fun.

He is although you never know when he'll turn to the darkside like Brad Pitt did.

>>
>>30058847
He is actually super /k/ he was close friends with hunter s. thompson. They met and Johnny depp asked if he blow shit up in Hunters yard.
>>
>>30058851
I think it was the tension of the moment that was why he stayed just a little too long than he should have.

My biggest thing about the movie is that its view on life, 2 drastically different human instincts but both yet understanding each other so much that they seem to only be different because of the choices of the individuals doing their jobs.

Neil was given the comfort of dying with someone who, albeit was an enemy but also completely understood him and his life style.

To me, Neil appealed most, but i also understood Vincent as a character too.
>>
>>30058889
>close friends with hunter s. thompson

Yes he was. Hunter also gave Conan O'Brien one of his best segments before he blew his brains out.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNEImAIM4L4
>>
>>30058877

I was really disappointed with Hyena Road. The cheesy love story and ham-fisted dialogue really took away from what could have been an awesomely operator movie.
>>
>>30058904
>albeit was an enemy but also completely understood him and his life style.
and
>To me, Neil appealed most, but i also understood Vincent as a character too

I wish they hadn't cut the scene where Neil drops off cash to Voight to give to Kelso for his share and an envelope for Brendan's 'people' if he could find some.

Yep in one of the first robberies a henchman blasts with his BAR, but the sound effects of multiple 30-06 landing on cars and buildings makes up for the idea of a guy shooting it with one hand.

Shit I need to watch that movie again, Lawless was somewhat disappointing.

I dont remember that much from when i saw it, which honestly is probably a bad sign about the movie because you can generally tell it was great by if you remember it, but what i do remember is that there was the daughter of the guy who had connections to that secret organization and all of the traveling was to find the people that would expose who the leader of the organization was, once they did that then they could end it because it was trying to create a supreme all reaching intelligence network that would allow them to control MI6 and the other intelligence networks around the world.

Honestly because i dont remember that much about it i would have to rewatch it to give a proper explanation as to why i liked it other than it was actiony and cus b0nd :)).

First movie
>Speshul ops operating ina eastern Europe mostly armed with those in pic
>oper8d in the dark single file innaurban one scene
>tank with girl either yelling at it or just standing there bad guys do own the tank and do something
>main bad guy is slav as fuck walking around in track suit and an SVD
>Mr.InspirationforthesonofbadguyfromCOD4 is walking around with a dude, dude steps on mine, badguy points gun
>walks away

Maybe i'm mixing movies but here's the other one
>guy takes a corkscrew to the shooting finger

Last movie
>Opening scenes are of kid soldiers in some US military training from babeh to adult (and tattoo barcodes?)
>2 bureaucrats talk and have guys from their litter fight or out perform the others
>all this seeming to imply that this is a eugenics program by the military to produce supersoldiers capitalist way

The 317th Platoon. 45 men ordered to evac a FOB and regroup with the rest of the army, going through 150km of Viet-Minh-infested jungle in the process.
It's a bit dated, but powerful nonetheless.

The rest of the movies made by Schoendoerffer qualify, considering the man was a cameraman for the french army and did all the things depicted in his movies.

You see several BMP-1s (not a tank, but still) and T-72s. They actually did a great job in terms of armor. BHL has a fuckton of flaws, but that shit really helped nail the atmosphere I think.

Checked, but he should have held back a bit more. What annoyed me was the obnoxious use of bright flares and shit all over the fucking place, especially when the cars were getting shot at.

Oh and the RPGs, he could have looked up the hundreds of hours of raw combat footage and saw that the PG-7 is not a bottle rocket. Sure they bounce around a bit but good goddamn it not that fucking much.

Not sure if you're still there.
I put the movie on pause and spent time reading the story of Edward McKay (Hemingway's friend) who is buried near my birthplace.

Now I'm back.

The main character fucks up the electrical box of a general store and exploits the darkness to make a purchase without giving away his identity.
He gets:
>a bottle of water
>some syringes (which I assume were not meant for medical use)
>a rubber band
>and some packages of sugar
Once out, he reaches an (abandoned?) petrol station and grabs a jacket from a truck and
>the rubber hose of a carburettor
He then reaches a shed/toilet and shuts himself within the filthy place for a make-up intravenous feeding:
>ties his upper arm with the rubber band
>attaches the needle to the rubber hose
>puts sugar in the water bottle; shakes well
>hose goes from bottle to the needle, and needle is inserted in a vein (or artery?)

Later in the film, the Hispanic FBI rookie receives a phone call from the general store lady who informs him of the unusual purchase.
However, his boss dismisses the whole thing as irrelevant, even when confronted by the Spic about how sugar is useful for first aid, as documented since Napoleonic wars.

According to my (2 years old) First Aid training, it is honey and not sugar that has healing properties: honey is a natural anti-viral agent, which can be put on wounds -- except this is to be considered an extreme measure when all other solutions are unavailable.

I don't know much about sugar, but my intuition is it may contribute to increase blood glucose and thus hasten healing.

Actually, the Italian Wikipedia is a bit more informative than the English one. It says sugar IV is used to:
>restore blood volume
>correct H2O deficit in case of excessive dehydration
>nutrition
>specific therapies
>solution in which other drugs are dissolved

I guess there are many reasons why you want an IV of sugar after having been shot.

Any recommendations about movies set in Africa?

Beasts of No Nation was fucking intense

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xb9Ty-1frw

I've seen Blood Diamond, Tears of the Sun, etc

Parts of Metal Gear that were set in Africa hit me pretty hard...

Machine Gun Preacher was kinda shit but I really wanted to like it... the real stories are better than the movie...

I can't quite explain why, but i can't help but to romanticize how absolutely batshit crazy Africa is...

Why so few films about Rhodesia?
>>
>>30080671
Have you watched johnny mad dog?
>>
>>30080565
It has all the basics of a Glucose IV right and it makes sense to use a glucose IV, since it would restore the lost blood volume and re-energize him from being on the run.
However you would never tie off (the rubber band) a vein when administering an IV solution (arterial administration is barely done and requires hospital facilities), since it prevent the fluid from spreading through the body.
Mac-Gyvering an IV like that is quite dangerous, since you don't have a proper measurement of how much sugar you solve (which is important to maintain isotonicity).
Furthermore most sugar is sucrose (a combination of glucose & fructose, that needs be broken down before use), my metabolic pathway knowledge is a bit rusty, so I can't comment on whether that would work.
While you could probably get some sterile injection needles at a grocery store (I have a couple sterile needles in my medicine cabinet at home), the rubber hose is definitely not sterile and probably contaminated with all kinds of chemical compounds. Since you're injecting directly in the blood stream, there's a high risk of sepsis/poisoning.

Word of warning biomed scientist, so all this info comes from my experience with lab animal IV and not from actual clinical practices.

>>30080671
>Any recommendations about movies set in Africa?
I was trying to download "Hard to Get", but got a lame torrent that asks you to click on a link to get a PW... but link is dead (was supposed to be a scam survey anyway).

Fuck that.

I can stil suggest:
>Blood Diamond (as you said)
>Stander (policemen turned bad guys)
>Safe House (I mostly liked the atmosphere, but that's just a movie with American logics set in SA)
>The Bang Bang Club (more from a journalist POV)
>Tsotsi (fucking crude; if you like the favelas movies from Brazil, you're gonna appreciate this one)
>Zulu (2013 film) = you really might want to check this one out; characters are good; plot is good; Orlando Bloom is unrecognisable. I cannot voucher for the operator aspect because I am no expert, but it looked based.

Other guy here.

Building on what you've said, I can add the following.

>hard to measure how much sugar is needed
I may assume this guy got training and knows how much to put even without appropriate measurement units. As far as Wikipedia goes, you fuck up if you do 10% instead of 5% (or viceversa, according to the needs)... but supposedly you should be okay if, say, you get 4.8% rather than the intended 5%. Similarly, I have been cooking pasta for almost 20 years, so that I can estimate exactly how much salt I need depending on my pan size. Therefore, I assume this guy knew what he was doing (within plot logics).

>hose is not sterile
Not sure buddy. Isn't that thing supposed to heat when used? The car was old and he had just driven some 100 km so I assume the hose might have gone through a lot of sterile heating.

Of course there is still the issue of fuel poisoning (after all, the carburettor injects air and fuel into an engine).

Surprisingly, here is a case of a patient who practised self-harm and injected himself with 5 ml of kerosene.

As a consequence, he developed a 38 °C temperature, blisters and agonizing pain (but only after 2 days of soreness) and basically he was treated at the hospital with some steroids... but soon left on his feet (against medical advice).

His arm didn't look as good as Mark Whalberg's though. :P

Anyway I agree this is the kind of cinematographic ploy in which they show something that might theoretically work... but in real life you have to get so many boxes right that it is hardly practicable.

Other case (suicide attempt with gasoline injection):
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19217240

>At operation, gas emanation and superficial necrosis were noted. Nevertheless, the patient's outcome was good, with full recovery within 3 weeks.

However this patient seems to have missed the IV and injected directly into muscles. Nevertheless he got shit in his pulmonary alveoli.

In all these cases we are talking people who directly injected gasoline. We are not talking of Mr Swagger, who injected sugar and water with a sterile hose that might have been stained with gasoline.
>>
>>30080107
I love it when they randomly stack things one on top of the other just for the sake of making the situation more shitty for the main characters.

It appears the due who is supposed to kidnap the main pussy of the plot is also a rapist. I mean, on top of EVERYTHING else, one of the minor bad guys also happens to be a rapist lord; regardless of all his FBI shit.
>>
>>30080851
Of course I don't know the specific temperatures a piece of tubing like that is exposed to, but for sterility, standards are usually at least 121°C for 15 minutes (using 15 psi steam) or 160°C dry heat.
Also handling of the hose when you remove it from the car/expose it to the air, are big risks factors that my undo any sterilization that occurred when the car was running.

Even though once I met a surgeon who worked in Africa (Darfur, Somalia...) who told me that given the filth of some buildings, sometimes operating in the open air still gives you more guarantees than indoors.

It depends on the desired level of sterility. In brief, sterilization follows a decreasing exponential curve.
Boiling something in water is good enough for your average home use, but some highly resistant forms might still survive.
So while boiling will kill the majority of the bacteria, something like endospores can still survive.

There is nothing that's a 100% guaranteed sterile, instead you have different probabilities of sterility.
While a couple of bacteria remaining on your food aren't that bad, you don't want to inject them directly in your bloodstream.
Just for example some of the 'for research use only' materials (pic related) we use in the lab, have a sterility guarantee of 1/1000 (1.10-3).
But for medical & diagnostic devices it's usually 1.10-6 to 1.10-9.

TL;DR boiling is good enough for 99% of the everyday situations for the average person, but it doesn't kill everything.
