Going into the Army with the ultimate goal of going PSYOPS. Going via OCS and am gonna try to either branch Infantry, Intel, Artillery, or Engineer. Does anyone know what the process of becoming a PSYOPS officer is like? To go to selection from what I understand you need to be 1st LT promotable. If you perform well as an officer for about 3 or 4 years do you stand a good shot of getting picked up for selection if you put in a packet? Also, there seems to be very little about PSYOPS selection itself. Is it roughly the same as SFAS? As in log PT, rucking, generally smoking you, and land nav? What are the differences?

I am a former marine who will be going to ots in january most likely. I didn't think it would be an issue for me, but the more I think about it the more I am starting to feel uneasy about dealing with instructors who haven't done half of what I have trying to give me instruction on how to clear a room.

I have been watching some videos on youtube and everything they do during their field week is laughable. It isn't the age of the instructors that I would have a problem with, it is the lack of experience - a guy whose primary afsc is avionics tech who is trying to tell me what it might be like in afghanistan when I have gone and come back twice before he probably even graduated from high school.

I know I need to get over myself... I guess I just don't know how to.

I reluctantly went in today and he told me he got me in the general aptitude area and I knowingly signed on but I'm not exactly sure if that was the best thing to do.

I'm going to be a college graduate in an engineering field at a great school and I want to do ROTC/do the 4 years of military service when I'm young now if Trump gets elected. Problem is, I can't decide what I want to do. I'm interested in the Army and the Air Force - primarily in the Army I would want to ideally do something that gets outdoors or does something cool. I've considered the special forces and I believe I would make it, but I probably won't be in the military long enough to go through all the schooling. Besides that, I am interested in Airborne, Military Intelligence, Engineering or Logistics. I don't want to come back after the military and have nothing interesting to say about it. For the Air Force, I wanted to be a Pilot but after realizing that I have no interest in being a commercial pilot/couldn't really make a civilian career out of it afterwards I am hesitant to put in all the effort. Does anybody have anything to say about these MOS', tips or recommendations for me?

While I'd highly recommend going to a gym for some sort of strength training both because it is helpful in the military, and just because it's helpful for you in general, you can certainly start doing body weight training for free.

Find a running route and a park to go do body weight exercises in. Good chance that there is somewhere free near you that at least has bleachers and something you can use as a pullup bar.

Doing EMS In civilian life, but I'm not challenging the first half of AIT. More time in rank, more time to show off, and more pay to collect before first duty station. Would be stupid to rush through it.

My plan is, 2 years in, if I like the Army, and what I'm doing, I'll put my packet in for SFAS and doing dope shit. I've wanted to do SOF since like 7th grade, just been stuck on what I wanna do.

ANYWAY. I've heard that at AIT I can apply for RASP, especially as a medic, since 68W Opt40s are impossible to get (Literally like 10 go out nationwide apparently). Considering doing that, because Rangers are awesome and I think I'd like it. Still haven't gotten that confirmed that I can do that though.

Also getting an option 4 for jump school.

68W Option 40s are almost impossible to get, like 1year+ of waiting to get one. The way Option 40s work is (Apparently)
150 go out at the start of the year. 100 Infantry, and 50 mixed. Only 5-10 of the mixed are 68W and they go fast. The only way to get one is for a 68W Opt40 to drop out before attending RASP, then his Opt40 is released to any recruiter in the country, sooo lots of competition.

Also, not 100% ready for RASP yet. My PFT scores are weak, passing but weak. I'd rather have 10 weeks of BCT+6mos of AIT to better prepare. Mentally I can do it 100%, but not physically right now.

During Q course they attend a language course for their assigned region (Each SF Group has an assigned region). They also, I assume, go through basics for arabic and pashto.

They aren't fluent, remember that. They learn the words they need and learn more as they go. Met a few SF guys, active and retired. Most say the course is 100% mental, SFAS sucks cock but once you're selected as long as you've got the brains you'll make it. Met a few assigned to Bosnia during the Yugo Wars, they speak enough of the language to provide basic instructions and information but not hold a conversation (Most, one guy is wicked good at it)

Back out of HS I was enlisting with the Marines before I banged my shoulder up and had to drop from DEP or risk permanent DQ at Boot.

Hindsight is 20/20, and I'm gonna be honest with you. The USMC is filled with Spics, Niggers, and White Trash. There's good eggs there, don't get me wrong, but you'll be digging through mountains of shit to find them. The public is gonna look at you with a raging boner, but remember this:

Your school options are limited
The USMC will fuck you in every way it can, just to make it seem more badass from the outside
You will NOT make it to E4 in your first enlistment as Infantry.
You're limited to 3 bases and fleet as infantry. Lejune, Pendleton and Hawaii
Your Quality of Life is shit. Old barracks, army handmedowns for equipment. Your leadership embraces that.

Honestly, look. The Marines are neat and all, but if you want to advance, if you want to get the job you want, and if you want to get school options, go 11B.

Marines can only promise you 03xx, you could be a mortarman, a turret gunner, LAV crewman..

There's actually a pretty solid chance you WON'T be a rifleman. Do yourself a solid favor, and look at taking an 11X Opt 4 from the Army. Get into an airborne unit, get access to schools if you want to stay in, enjoy better QoL while you're in, and know that the Army isn't going to intentionally fuck you over just to appear more badass. Corps does it regularly. Just as MARSOC.

It's been a while but I believe it's called an Infantry Option. Much like I think ranger kiddos say option 40. It's a contract.

It guarantees Infantry, but MOS is determined at SOI. If you don't volunteer for weapons you'll most likely be an 0311.

It's like any other MOS in any branch recruiters are allowed so many slots, it's their job to choose best candidate. I went Infantry option with high asvab, my recruiter wanted me to go some pog job because my scores were good. I told him I was gonna go talk to Army recruiter about Airborne and then suddenly a slot was available. Be polite but be resolute.

We all get the GI Bill. Even former grunts 7 credits away from graduating with a 3.3 GPA after summer. Don't let your union job dictate years of your life.

Civil Affairs will possibly be recruiting for Civil Affairs medics, who will go on to Civil Affairs Medical Sergeant pipeline.

So, my logic is, if the opportunity arises for me to sign up for it, I might as well try out, no?

Right now I score a 237 on the APFT, my run is my biggest weakness but I'm working on that pretty solidly.

I'm also over the weight limit, but under body fat %, which is also hurting me. But, from what I've been told, I'll lose 30lbs in basic. Hopefully its mostly fat that I lose. I'd hate to lose all of my upper body muscle :(

I work in healthcare. Yes, you can legally sign over permission to release your medical documents. You do so when you sign enlistment papers. However, because doctor's offices keep individual records, and there is no way for them to find out you went there without you telling them, you could skate by pretty easily.

That being said, even with the signed permission, many healthcare providers and hospitals will either need to call and verify with you that they are allowed to hand them over, or refuse to hand them without the person present. Too much risk of a lawsuit, even with the government.

But lying about mental health can and will get you booted from the military. And if you're at boot/basic or beyond when they find out, you're looking at fraudulent enlistment, which carries the risk of:

Dishonorable Discharge
Forfeiture of Pay
2 Years Jail Time

I ran 5 miles a few days ago, but had to tone it down and I'm doing 2 a night now. I ran an average of a mile in 10 minutes, but I ran around a lake up and down a lot of pretty steep hills. Is this okay, or should I focus on speed and not length?

Running is the only thing that has me worried. I'm doing a test with the recruiter soon but I just wanted to check here quickly.

Also, how likely is it that I could switch asfc to police or even EOD after 3 years? That's a very slight possibility but still on the table.
