Hey guys, with cheerful disregard to weight and practicality I've chosen to buy/build a battle rifle.

However, I've chosen the 6.5 creedmoor round and I would like the rifle to be side charging and piston driven.

I'm looking at SCAR right now but I'm a little wary that rebarreling would potentially accompany a drop in quality

Anyone have suggestions other than kys
>>
>>30052549
yeah theres only a couple lights that are built to fit it too, and theyre expensive i guess but not too much higer than other taclights for pistols. theres one that's light/laster for 450 though

If you have a slim plastic forearm, you'll find it gets rather hot after ~40 rounds of rapid-fire. The wide handguard is great for keeping the heat away during sustained shooting.

>>30052384
Exactly which model did you get? The GI was designed for 147gr M80 ball; that's what it will probably work best with.

I was looking at getting a battle rifle and the FN SCAR 17 seems like it will be my choice due to the fact that I got to shoot a light in 2009 and I very much enjoyed it but would like to have a heavier round

Personally I love the Aesthetics and the Comfort it gave me but I don't know if I should be looking at something else and it is very costly any information you guys can give me?
>>
>>30053685
The scar17 is definitely the most comfortable battle rifle I've ever held. The price is ridiculous though. A close 2nd goes to the mas 49/56.
The hk91 clones come in a short distance behind, then the fal is lagging pretty far behind that. It just feels like an old gun design, heavier, bigger, and clunkier than it needs to be. Still cool though.
I can't place an m14 since I haven't held one in a couple years at this point. I'm guessing it'll be more like the MAS since it's another gun with a normal shaped wood stock.
>>
>>30053685
i dont know what info you guys need

but essentially im looking for a modern rifle with semi auto instead of bolt action

as it stands i have a:
Remington 710
1942 Lee Enfield
1954 54 Carbine
a glock
and a shotgun i picked up from academy for like 150$ for home defense

i like all of my guns and theyre perfectly reliable (except the 54 carbine) but i want to grab a modern weapon more than anything and like i said previously, i got to shoot the FN SCAR in 2009 and really enjoyed it
>>
>>30053725
ill give that MAS a look, much appreciated.

my wife wouldnt really stop me from getting a scar if we have the money to spare, but it is costly as hell (3k omg) so if i do wind up getting one i would rather it be after much deliberation and consideration and not due to a lack of knowledge about other BRs

Mine's a 308 conversion so I can pick up ammo at any walmart, but I guess a lot of the conversions were done sloppily so buyer beware. I didn't get a lemon, but a lot of people apparently did.

I paid $3K for a Christensen CA10, shot one back to back with a scar and prefered the CA10. The CA is very light in the nose and made in the USA. Something to consider if you're going gucci. The CA10 is proven to cause scar crowd buttmad too. I love everything that FN makes and own some FN hardware but the CA10 is schweeeet.

Their website looks like it was made by a college student for hot dogs but their guns are pretty damn nice. I've seen some of their bolt guns and they are the bull's balls.

de nada. A friend that has a SCAR and a CA10 says the FN is like a BMW M5, and the CA is a McLaren, for whatever that is worth.

I shot a $3K Sig, a SCAR and the CA10 on the same day. The Sig was heavy and looked old school to my eye, and the SCAR looked like the 90's called and wanted their rifle back after holding the Christensen. I wanted a modern looking space gun so that's what I got. It's the first AR pattern rifle I've seen that looks up to date.

My buddy with the Sig was mad that he bought it. lolz

agreed, it's subjective. Mine is the older version, no slant cut on the handguard end and no cock-lock holes. I liked the way they cut the vents better on the older model.

The Lancers are bitchin, but there were none around to fondle in my area. Same w the Proofs. I'm sure they are badass arms though. Something else for the guy above to check out.

Very little with the bullet, assuming they all have the same amount of powder behind them. I found that 150gr FMJ Perfecta drops about 6" below 147gr M80 ball at 100yds; definitely under-powered in comparison.

Kek, fair statement! The whole point of this build was shits and giggles: My wife thinks a dozen guns is enough already (like she's never heard of a baker's dozen!), but she's also into that "extreme couponing" crap. So, when I floated the idea of seeing how cheaply I could build a very expensive rifle, by buying parts whenever they were deeply on sale over the course of months, she was actually OK with it. So, SWMBO think's it's actually a cool looking gun, and I don't have to sleep on the couch.

I figured using cheap parts would turn things into a bit of a crapshoot, but it's worked out well. Breaking in the BCG and barrel was a pain in the dick; lockup was super tight, and I had to keep lubing it and wearing it in. Finally cycles OK. Even when well oiled, it was so tight after I finished assembling it that it almost took 2 hands on the charging handle to open the bolt.

Most important thing is a receiver set, always buy 308 AR receivers in a set. Find a handguards that look like KAC if you want. Sprinkle in a top end barrel, trigger, other parts to suit. And don't cheap out on optics.
>>
>>30068593
>What is the rarity of an HK33? I can't seem to find one that isn't a PTR clone.

PTR doesn't make an HK33 clone; only Century, Vector-Kelley, Zenith and Moore do.

Are you thinking of the HK32? If so, it never went beyond trial production. The PTR-32 imitates it in function, but it is not a true clone since it uses a regular 91-size receiver.

>>30068673
like anon said above, research is key. i jumped in picking out parts and found myself lacking options. of course that isnt to say you dont have options, there is a very decent sized aftermarket for 308 ARs. i guess if i were to sum it up, i had to make concessions based on what was available. so i ended up sinking a fair amount of money into a gun that i wasnt completely happy with.
its fun to go blasting with once in a while but i hardly ever shoot it anymore.
in my case, i would have been better served with a factory rifle.
>>
>>30068778

I'm a gun novice and the only guns I've had real experience with are a lueger pistol clone, and a bolt action rifle.

If I do go the AR-10 route, I'll give that some thought. Yeah, it's a chin weld for sure. Irrelevant though because it's a Weaver-spec base on a 1913-spec rail; the recoil shakes it loose after only a couple shots. Doesn't help that it only has one real screw clamping it on. The sight works just fine, but it can't be properly secured to the rail; I just put it on for dankness.

>how do i remove the plug to put the bayonet mount in
Push in the little detent with the tip of a chopstick, then pull the cap off the end. Place bayonet socket in triple frame, line up holes, thread in screw. Done.

Every time I see that optic I get a stiffy.

I feel like my PTR belongs in /arg/ with this handguard.
>>
>>30077002
your options are limited with the budget. my vote would be a primary arms reddot
>>
>>30077815
The surefire brake and gooseneck optic mount make it more /arg/ than modular handguards.

I intend to cut it down to the triple frame and put a silencer on it too.

I made the light. Mount is Daniel Defense.

Info on the light

Solarforce L2P housing
Sportac brass heatsink XM-L2 U2, grinded to fit, heatpasted and shimmed.
AW Protected 3400mAh 18650 battery
And a chunk of multicoated glass that I fitted.

Puts out around 1500 lumens.

Slick.
Candlepower forums a good place to learn up that sort of thing? I'm ignorant on the piecemeal approach, but don't like the market offerings for fully assembled stuff.
>>
>>30078432
Yeah. Just buy p60 stuff and you'll be fine. Check out solarforce for nice casings.
>>
>>30078484
Showing that ignorance, p60?
>>
>>30078745
Its a spec made by surefire, if you see p60 you know its compatible with other p60 parts. the surefire 6P was the original p60 flashlight.

Id call the FN Pro shop, recently theyve had better prices and inventory.

Long arms? Handguard Extensions
Otherwise I like aftermarket selectors and pistol grip. If you want a precision shooter, a different trigger.
