Thanks for the recommendations, any particular reason for these two?

First gun I've ever owned is a Remington 870 express. only cost around 300.
Only ever had one problem with it feeding estate ammo once. To me it was a great first shotgun

They're the most common pumps with the most aftermarket accessories. Mossberg is cheapest and weighs a bit less than the 870. Older 870's are better than newer ones.

Another option is the Ithaca 37, the action isn't as smooth as the other two but old ones are slam-fire capable.

if you aren't big into customization, look into the benelli pump guns.

I got a Mossberg 500 new because every asshole around me had to slap on magpul gear and wouldn't sell their shit for less than a new one

not OP but is the difference between 870 express and 870 wingmaster just a nicer stock? better fit and finish?

Benelli Nova or supernova op. Simpler, more robust design. Less aftermarket (bullshit to make your gun heavier/more expensive) fucking seriously, if you have mag tube extension, bead sights, and a light mount, What else do you freaking need?

If you just want a decent quality shotgun that will do the job, then get a mossberg 500 for ~$150-$200 (used) or ~$250-$300 (new). It will do everything you need from it.

If you feel like spending some more money for a top of the line pump shotgun, then get a mossberg 590a1. It's around $450 to $600 new (depending on the model), but there's no higher quality pump shotgun on the market. It's essentially a mossberg 500 but with a parkerized/anodized finish, aluminum trigger guard / safety button, a heavy duty barrel, a bayonet lug (because bayonets are both the sexiest and most useless thing you can put on a shotgun), and a slightly different end cap that allows you to more easily clean the magazine tube spring/extend the tube if you went for a model that only holds 6 in it.

Whatever shotgun you get, it would be a sin to not buy a wood stock/forend if it does not already have that.
