Im about to buy some AR ammo for my SHTF/WROL stockpile, and I'm torn between two choices..

500 rounds of 5.56 FMJ for $158?
Or
500 rounds of .223 JHP for $175??

Both are made by Federal.

I'm not sure how much of an advantage HP ammo has when it comes to intermediate cartridges.

TL;DR Is it worth spending a little extra money to buy hollow point ammo for SHTF?

5.56/.223 doesn't rely upon a hollow point bullet, presuming you've got enough velocity.

Are you planning to Klebold your coworkers or for the end of the world? If not, get the FMJ.

Depends, what's your POU?

You a wolf or a sheepdawg?

Figure out what your gun shoots best with. JHP will have no noticeable difference from FMJ inside a body, but it can be a world of difference in your gun.

Hollow points are better so long as they get at least 2 inches of penetration like a TSX or similar

Otherwise just use FMJ

I'm on board with the FMJ train now. Pic related is what happened to a jackrabbit I shot with my AR a few hours ago.

I honestly didn't expect that much damage from a bullet that doesn't expand. Makes me wonder if a hollow point would even be any different

Sorry for the gore, but this shit is for science

It doesn't matter what kind of bullet you're throwing at it, anything that big will fuck a small critter up.

Well yeah, I've killed them with pellet guns. My point is that hollowpoints don't make a difference unless you are shooting long range
