Purchasing decision thread
Hakim or FN49?
I want a Semi-Auto in 8mm Mauser, mainly since I already have the ammo for it, but can't really decide between the two.
If you could only get one, which one and why?

Boy, that's a really tough decision. Both are great.
IMO, I would buy both because why not?
>>29924508
Agreed.
Except I'll still say FN49, for reasons.

FN49. The Ljungman/Hakim system and manual of arms is so weird and counter intuitive to me. Having to manipulate the safety between reloads in order to not have a broken thumb seems stupid as all get out to me as well.

>because why not?
Because I don't have $1200 laying about to throw at 2 rifles at once.
Both are neat and I'd want both, but if I could only have one it'd be the SAFN. In my opinion they are the best looking traditional wood stock autoloading rifle ever produced, and plus they've got the whole FN and Dieudonne Saive aspect to them that I love.
Hakims/Llungmans are really neat too, but if going that route I'd rather have a Llungman in 6.5x55 than a Hakim in 7.92x57.

Protip: just don't pull back on the dust cover to release the bolt while reloading.
Tough choice, op. I have a Hakim and I love it but kinda long for an FN49. If you get a Hakim and shoot steel in it, be sure to clean inside the chamber within 40 rounds or so. That laquer on steel cases melts off a little and eventually you'll get a case stuck up there, and it's a 2 person job to remove it.

Sound choice. But op doesn't have $1300+ to spend on a rifle apparently.
>>29924742
It doesn't matter, when you load the stripper clips into the feeding guide the bolt will still release.
>>29924765
So don't push the dust cover forward first. I've loaded mine plenty of times off safe with stripper clips.
if I could only have one i'd definitely want the FN49. You know it's gonna be quality as fuck
Fn49. Not likely to smash your thumb, and they usually have a nicer fit and finish to them.
I got a hakim for $140 once because "it's a heavy ole rifle that don't shoot right"
Turns out the gas adjuster just needed to be tinkered with. Gun works great. Real fun and can be modified to use 25 round MG13 magazines.

This gives you a full-size 25 round rifle of death.
>>29924742
The laquer doesn't melt off, that's fuddlore. It's just built up carbon in the chamber because steel doesn't expand against the chamber as well as brass. Put in 1 brass case for every 5 or 10 steel case rounds and it'll clean the chamber enough as you fire to prevent stuck casings.

I'll give it a try. Thanks, anon.
Reminder that NEITHER rifle is suited to firing Turk 8mm Mauser

>>29927061

Gimmedats
Hakim
>weird as fuck manual of arms
>likely to losea thumb or two
>magazine has two clips to detach
>meh tier condition
>meh tier egyptian build quality
FN49
>Fucking fat uncomfortable stock
>Non-detachable magazine

>Way bigger and heavier than it needs to be
Just buy a G43 OP, they're pretty neato.
>>29929038

>>29925698
