Either way, that's a pretty valuable skill.

If you have the facilities, you could go independent, but even if you don't, there surely would be larger armed organizations that would find you very valuable.

It's rough as fuck.

There's so much to learn, specialization really is the way to success.... however, if there's ever a crash of some sort, if your workforce is too specialized it can work against society.

I'm a felon, too. I'm pretty useless to society. But the point is, I'm hoping I'll be easier to train than other people with no knowledge in that particular field.

But some of the things people create are so amazing I have to try to learn as much as I can.

I have ~40 acres of land out in the country that I got cheap because most of it was already "mined" for wood. Wood is growing back and it has about everything I need if anything were to happen.

I've lived as a poor country boy most of my life, so yea, I'm fine. No government assistance either. At one point I was living on about ~$150-200 a month.

I live deep in the liberal burbs so guns are kind of a rarity around here, I have enough to arm a few 'aides' so I guess I'd try "hire" my friends and maybe eventually some nearby displaced neighborhood kids (once more guns have been obtained) or something to assist me in salvage operations and running some kind of shop.

Failing that or if my home is destroyed (where I would want to set up the shop from) in the initial upheaval, I'll probably just do solo high value salvage (fuel, pharmaceuticals in wreckage far from current settlement) and barter, maybe play the saxaphone for tips, or odd construction jobs.

Like I was thinking more of collecting protection money for guarding a small community or managing a 'town watch' security force or doing ad hoc convoy security for travelers/traders/salvagers/farmers/etc...

Something that separates my group from others is that there is no sharing of girls between members unless the members want to share. This, and there are other reasons why I have the land. Also has an old farm and house on it, but those are 100+ years old. Barn is usable but house really isn't.

But there are other things the land is good for. Shooting training (with enough space to actually train, not just stand and shoot at a target), stockpiling, etc. It's also situated around a bunch of empty land so it's a really nice place.

I don't ever see our society completely collapsing. We might get to the point of going back to like the 1800's where we don't have as much autonomy but people will generally respect law and order out of their own self interests.

I live in an extremely small rural farming town. Rocky mountain area. Tight as fuck communities. Everyone has a shit ton of land with crops/gardens everywhere. Everyone owns a gun.

Im a machinist, so I can use my skills towards helping the loads of welders around here keeping the farm tools working and running. I can not only help with replacing firearms parts, but I can build rifles easily.

So long as I dont get picked off in the fields/mountains by billy joe with his thuddy-ought-six, im sure I will do just fine.

I studied mechanical engineering and work in the solar industry. I'd be able to hook people up with DC power and crude AC power. With enough time I could probably get smooth AC power to work as well.

As for the happeneing, I'm grabbing my BOB and going innawoods with as much extra gear/guns as I can. I can grow veggies fine in my climate and hunting is simple. I think survival would be doable for a couple years. Fishing near my woods location also.

To be honest im kind of fucked. I only have food for a few weeks and it is all in canned food so I would have a hard time moving it somewhere. I also have nowhere to go besides "North" which will probably be filled with urbanites who had the same plan.

Once my food ran out I would likely need to scavenge and raid people to stay alive while I look for any groups to take me in.

Ideally I will have my property by the time the happening happens, and I could fortify it and have farms and people to help run everything. Farms would be crucial to a groups success.

I also like the idea of trying to mass produce moonshine for drinking and antiseptic needs.

I would grow a couple acres of sunflower seeds, press the oil, make soap and sell it. Lye is so easy to make that I did it by accident once.
