Cheap. Easy to maintain. A lot (and I mean A LOT) of spare parts available. Can be upgraded from used BTR-80 instead of being scratch built (and it is making it even more cheap and affordable). Amphibious. Air-transportable. Quite adequate for low-intensity warfare.

Summary: It is not a vehicle you want in your top-notch front-line forces. However, it is more than good for its cost for the second-line troops and for export.
