Why would we acknowledge the inferior Armalite rifle?

It's pretty cool looking compared to the AR-15. Though that's completely subjective.

AR-18 fags have long been banned from the AR threads for being insufferable retards convinced that hammered sheet metal shit and muh piston operating system somehow equal a superior rifle, ignoring that the AR18 was designed as a low cost alternative to sell to 2nd rate countries that can't produce or mill aluminum forgings.
ultimately failing to receive any widespread adoption anywhere, besides derivatives of the design, such as the sa80, and the g36
objectively complete pieces of shit compared to the m16/m4

It's interesting looking in a cheap and shitty build quality kind of way, but it doesn't look better than any standard AR.

>>29898506
Basically this. The AR-18 is a curiosity at best. It's loved almost entirely by autistic people who say shit like "IT COULD BE BETTER IF IT WERE MODERNIZED" then say "THAT'S TOO EXPENSIVE" when you point at the developmental ends of AR-18 upgrades. It's neat, but it's not superior to anything, which is fine because it's not meant to be.
>>
>>29898557
Especially considering how god damn cheap the AR15 is nowadays anyway
>>
>>29898570
Yeah but the AR-15 sucks compared to the AR-18 because it doesn't have a folding stock, it's too unreliable because it poops where it eats, it wasn't used by my favorite terrorist organization, and also because 18 is a higher number than 15.

the fact that they made fictional weapons in mgsv pissed me off to no end

but at least they look like feasible practical designs that would fit right into the 80s

still i can't get over not being able to operate with an M16A1
i can never forgive hideo kojima for that
>>
>>29898506
That sounds pretty harsh, but I'm sure it more of because the fact that they annoying.
>>
>>29898417
I own one, but it's more of a safe queen/investment plus a curiosity. Would post pics but I'm on my laptop.
>>
>>29898645
they are to AR threads as VZ58 fags are to AK threads

luckily AR-18s are prohibitively expensive, being such a shit weapon they never achieved any commercial success
>>
>>29898506
What killed the AR-18 for me was when it popped up in the Terminator. Completely ignoring the fact that it was a movie, they started to dick hop on it like it was the best thing ever.
>>
>>29898647
What's it like?
>>
>>29898667
I've only ever shot it twice (parts are non existant). It had quite noticeable recoil, I don't know if it had to do with the gas piston operation or not. But it wasn't very pleasant.

Do lowers ever go on sale?

Are the spikes lowers that are $89.99 the best bang for your buck?

Looking to purchase a lower or two before the next presidency but I don't want to buy them just to see they are 20% off the next week.

yes, i can hit the backstop with them at 100yrds.
other than than, not really, they will put the rounds in the general direction but trying to hit a 8" plate will be a bit tricky.

if you need to use the acog buis then just take it off and use your actual sights.

UPS Jews out in the worst possible way by having the local USPS handle the last leg of the journey. This is coupled by them using USPS shipping sites for transfers, and they won't even bother picking up what's out to be shipped until it warrants a truck. The result is a horrifically inefficient and often delayed service that also increases the chances of shit getting lost or taking a scenic tour of half the country due to the increased number of transfers. It is quite literally the worst shipping service in the United States.

I will also add that, after talking to the employees in my small town, the USPS absolutely hates UPSMI because the meshing of operating and shipping procedures between the two entities is anything but smooth and seamless and they are frequently forced to pointlessly sit on packages for days at a time because UPS couldn't be assed to pick up the items.

Laws. In the United States, federal law and regulations indicate that all airsoft guns transported or imported into the country must have a 6mm wide blaze orange tip or a blaze orange stripe 1 inch (2.54 centimeters) thick on both sides of the barrel.

Are these any good? Primary Arms 5x compact prism scope with ACSS reticle. Looks like it would run almost $400 with the QD mount and all the little doo-dads you need to buy for it. I'd be putting it on a standard PSA 16" 5.56 AR that cost about $550 total. Just looking for a magnified optic that's not too big (ex., not like a standard scope for a hunting rifle). I wouldn't be hunting with it, just shooting paper. My price range for an optic is up to $600 max, preferably much lower.

I have the 4x, it's a good piece of glass and I love the reticle, but for that money I'd probably go with the 1-6x instead.
>>
>>29902513
>Vortex Viper PST 1-4x has a price of 650$
what the fuck that's not possible

>check homepage
price is correct, wtf
when did that happen ?

(but the Strike Eagle has an MSPR of 450, not 500)
>>
>>29902542
Those prices are including the mounts in particular I want to get. and are really just estimates.
>>
>>29902565
don't expect too much out of the Strike Eagle

the prototypes they had at gunshows before the release had glass equal to the Viper PST 1-4x
was set on getting one as well because that was too got do be true
equal glass, more magnification, cheaper price ? fuck yeah

but this year when I finally got my hands on the retail ones it was rather disappointing to see that they had lowered the glass quality to the corresponding price range
>>
>>29902537
>go with the 1-6x instead.
I actually have owned this in the past and hated it. It was too big and the quality of the optics was pretty bad - narrow field of view and tons of distortion, which made 1x barely usable and higher magnifications a little fuzzy on high contrast objects. Really just looking for something closer to a poor man's ACOG in size and function, so looking at compact scopes only.
>>
>>29902609
Damn. Out of the magnified optics I listed, it has my favorite reticle. The PA 5x someone posted above has a nice one too, but I don't want a fixed power scope over a variable.
>>
For that guy in last thread near to end asking anout phosphated vs melonite.

Phosphate is a exterior coat that hold oil very well and melonite is just a type of nitriding for bore to enlong the life of bore but can be also applied on exterior.

The phosphate barrel you are looking at, check if bore is chromelined if yes thats better one if no the another's better.

I was looking to do what you did, but decided on a 4x32 instead.
>>

You mean Midway has a bunch on sale? No shit, Psi mentioned it earlier.
>>
>>29902613
Damn, I really hope that's just you being an optics snob and not a truly objective assessment of the scope, as I have been meaning to get one for a while but they've been sold out...they seem pretty popular and I don't see many negative reviews on them...

All the PA optics are heavy. My 4x is heavy and the 5x is probably even heavier. It's just something I've come to accept from this price range, and you get durability in return.
>>
Fuck me. Just walked into the gunsmith to ask if he could rebarrel a Garand and he had a Norinco SKS in really great shape. Paid $425 for it.

Too high for a chinkshit ripoff of slavshit? Maybe. But I like my SKS.

>>29902505

I just got one. It's bretty good.
>>
>>29902648
Yes, it's hard to hit a person sized silhouette but do able, have a good zero and know your holds and it's very achievable.
>>
>>29902722
Ya I get there email good deals pop up every once and awhile.
>>
>>29902788
If you know your hold overs and have a solid zero, you would be surprised how far you can push a dot on man sized steel. I've gotten out to 600 yards with my m21 meprolight.
>>
>>29902746
Maybe I'm a little bit of an optics snob, but I had been trying out different optics at the time, and the one I owned previously was a Redfield Revolution - just an inexpensive variable power Chinese scope, but the optical quality was....photographically sharp. I wasn't really digging the reticle and wanted something capable of going down to 1x, so I swapped for the PA 1-6x scope and it was like night and day. Maybe I shouldn't say that it was "barely usable," but it wasn't good either. Combined with the narrow field of view, I just ended up dumping it on Armslist and have been using a PA micro red dot since then.

I've gone out to 500m with irons and a comp4, 650m with an Acog(TA01 master race). But that was after 2 full days of shooting and 1k rounds. It was a pain in the ass the first day with irons and dot, but fun.

I built superior rifle for cheaper. Pn Oracle i would replace

- bcg for toolcraft
- rgb for clamp on fsb
- stock for car stock or fagpul acs or hk e1 even m4 waffleside would be better.

Dont buy/10

If you buy one you already spent more than you would building one during sale then even more when you replace shitty bolt when it break and shitty furniture when you had your fill of garbage.

Dpms ap4 carbine would be so much better. I would only replace the bolt for toolcraft and handguard for thinner a2 handguard and eventually the barrel when it get shot out.

I used to own dpms ap4 carbine bringback

Took this fat bastard out yesterday and put 60 rounds through it. First time I've had it out since I swapped the proprietary S&W buffer out for the A1 and a standard rifle. Performed well, zero issues with function, though the recoil impulse seems to be a little heavier than I remember. Could just be because I was shooting from prone and the hard plastic pad on the stock as opposed to the rubber on the Magpul I had on there. Considering looking into an extra heavy buffer or a stouter spring though.

Was having a little trouble zeroing the first 10-15 rounds, and couldn't figure out why. Was getting ready to check my mount but the next few rounds seemed to bring the zero in line and it shot well the rest of the day.

When I got home, I noticed the optic had shifted ~5/16" forward in the mount due to recoil. Couldn't get it to budge at all with my hand no matter how hard I pushed. This is fucking bullshit because I torqued everything to Leupold recommended spec with a torque driver. Had to loosen the rings up and re-set it, as well as re-level. Loctited everything and torqued it back down, a good bit tighter this time. Have to wait until my next range session to try it again. If it shifts again, I'm going to raise hell with Leupold.

Also put another ~200 rounds or so each through the AR15 and the SCAR.

So far, ~600 rounds through the Sig 516 upper with zero signs of cam pin wear, or carrier tilt. Flawless function so far, but I'll continue to keep an eye on it.
>>
>>29902933
I've got to shoot with the acog before it's a blast really easy to get out to 600 yards.

Honestly I can't even remember what brand it was, when I bought it I knew very little about commercial AR products and thought it was madness how expensive a lot of the mounts were. I still think it's madness but now I know better what brands are worth a shot.

>>
>>29903176

I'm starting to genuinely believe cheap mounts (~$100) aren't worth fuck all. See my post >>29903148 for an example.

It's a Leupold Mark II IMS 30mm and, when set up exactly according to instructions and factory recommended spec with a scope from the SAME manufacturer, allowed the optic to shift in the mount.

I was already planning on replacing it with a LaRue or similar, but I'll never bother with a cheap mount again.
>>
>>29903280
Couldn't you compensate for this, like by putting thin strips of rubber in between the mount and the scope?
>>
>>29903266
The local cops pull the fedex guy over all the time to get their stuff. It's hilarious.
>>
>>29903280
Pretty much. Even certain mid-range options are disturbingly lemon prone. The first M-223 mount I ordered the front ring was wildly tilted and I didn't realize it was a defect until I took it to the range and maxed out my scope elevation trying to zero it.

Popped that thing in the mail back to Amazon and the replacement has been serving me well ever since.

Oh yeah, new thread :^
>>29903318
>>
>>29903288

I could, and if it shifts again I'll probably end up doing either that or using a thin layer of loctite in the rings. At least until I buy a better mount.

The point it, I shouldn't HAVE to. I've never had this problem on any optics mounting set up before, when following factory mounting recommendations. I have a heavy Zeiss optic in standard Leupold dovetail rings on a relatively light bolt action .300WM and it has NEVER shifted.

Then this $100 piece of shit mount shifts on a semi auto .308 with a much lighter scope.
