ah back in the good ole days of Raptor test equipment

they rivet ridden panels are for test pieces. A combat ready Raptor would have smooth panels and extremly tight panel gaps. In fact the panel gaps in that picture kind of make me think it's fake but idk. personally, if that pic is real, I think its a security risk to the project to have a picture that close and that high res

Looks like someone swapped the On-Mark 8 gun nose for the glass nose. Which is stupid because it's impossible to get into the nose of an On-Mark B-26k from the cockpit.
You would have to rip out the right seat, right control yoke, right seat pedals, and modify the structure along with the instrument panel. And make it a single pilot airplane.
>>
>>29895958
kek you're delusional. We invented the damn thing in the 80's and had it implemented in our spy planes by the early 90's.

Also AESA is objectively better than PESA. The Active part in AESA just means it can send out signal instead of just listening to your enemies like a PESA. An AESA can also be PESA if it wanted to. However a passive PESA system can only listen, which does jack shit for you when your enemy isnt talking.

It is. Perhaps only marginally, but still better. But both are light-years beyond mechanically-steered radar.

>>29895996
Both are electronically-steered, so the main benefit is common to both. They can both scan extremely quickly.

But AESA does have quite a few smaller advantages over the typical PESA radar as well, mostly owing to the fact that each module is an independent transmitter-receiver (in contrast to the central transmitter, and usually receiver, of a PESA). AESAs are inherently very flexible and multifunction, since the entire array can easily be divided into independent subarrays. AESA is electrically simpler (less wiring), more reliable and is largely immune to single-point failures by virtue of its decentralized architecture. The signal mixers and phase-shifters in a PESA involve noise, so AESA generally has a ~6 dB receive noise factor advantage. To PESAs' credit PESAs usually use large magnetrons, klystrons or TWTs as a central source, which are relatively efficient and powerful. AESAs on the other hand must use solid-state transmitters to achieve the necessary level of miniaturization - but on the upside, these are generally capable of rapid frequency modulation and hopping.

It is possible to build an advanced "hybrid" PESA (like the IRBIS-E) with almost all the advantages of an AESA, but generally this is not the case with a PESA.

>>29896085
>The Active part in AESA just means it can send out signal instead of just listening to your enemies like a PESA.
That's not what the "passive" in PESA means, numbnuts. Both types are capable of transmitting "actively." The difference is, with an AESA array, each phased array module contains its own tiny transmitter (and is hence "active,") while in a PESA the elements are "passively" fed by a central transmitter which they then "passively" phase-shift and radiate.

Next time you want to opine on something you don't know about... don't.
>>
>>29886501
herp derp, why does that plane looks like it's falling apart under it's own weight?
>>
>>29898799
>It is possible to build an advanced "hybrid" PESA (like the IRBIS-E) with almost all the advantages of an AESA, but generally this is not the case with a PESA.
Yet this was the case with Zaslon, hence the comment emphasizing its advancement. It was due to its hybrid nature and immense power output to some extent better than the first small AESA radars and by far the best PESA out there only outperformed by Irbis-E.
