Because there isn't one here, and I have some questions, 1911 thread I guess.

I'm in the market for a good first 1911. Since I'm a Calicuck I can't buy a Colt outside of the Series 80 Commander, and I'm not a Kimber guy.

Narrowed my options down to Springfield MC Operator or the Parkerized Loaded and Sig TTT. My budget's around $1000, not including tax and shit.
Not into dropping $1000 more just to fix the guide rod and 2-piece shit barrel, on top of getting a gunsmith to fit all the parts.

Otherwise please post 1911s, rate them and shit on them.

What size piston to get?
I'm having some custom work done on my 1911 at the springfield custom shop (pic not related), and while it's with them I'm having a threaded barrel installed. Springfield's website says to send the piston along with the pistol. I hope to get a silencerco osprey. So what size piston should I get.

Is that a 9mm? How does it run? It would make ammo buying a lot simpler with a 9mm than having that and a 45.

Does anyone have that chart with 1911 tiers?

It's a Springfield Range Officer in 9mm. It belongs to another anon, and I just saved the pic.

I was looking at the MC Operator as well, but I ended up with a LB Operator. Better gun in my opinion, as I like the magwell, and the gun being all black.
>>
>>29886065
I feel like I know who you are.

Get the MC Operator.
>>
>>29887749
D-do you? Also it turns out I can't get a current production Operator in CA. I'll have to fish for an old one.
>>

Are the 80% deals worth it, bullshit, or has anyone even tried?
>>
>>29887778
do it faggot, Riflegear has them new.

Pretty sure this is the last SA Operator on the roster, and SA keeps producing them because of that. Really, its just the grips. You can swap them out as long as you don't mind a slick front strap.
>>
>>29887828
I was just worried cause the new ones have a different serial number. I'll get on that.
>>
>>29887828
Oh shit, Riflegear DOESN'T have them any more. Guess they did pull it.
>>
I have an old 1911 that always fails to extract and eject the round.
Is this something I can fix or will it require a real gunsmith?

Go with a SIG. I love mine. Shown here with my P238.
>>
Is the Paraordinance P12-45 any good? I got to shot one recently and it seemed pretty good for the overall size and performance.
>>
>>29887845
Probably just a bad extractor spring.

>>29887850
Yeah they're not bad.
>>
>>29887871
>Yeah they're not bad.
See, I kind of like the versatility of a 45, but I've tried a lot of 45's and they've all been kind of same-ish to me. Then I end up looking into more utilitarian to narrow it down, high capacity + compact.
So I tried one and it's actually more comfortable with the fatter grip than the more "classic" 1911's I've shot.

But I heard the company got bought out and went to shit?
>>
>>29887849
Do the Sig 1911s still have extractor problems? As with anything Sig USA makes it seems like when they work, they work well, but they tend to produce a significant number of lemons
>>
>>29887871
>extractor spring
>1911
Found the retard.
>>
>>29887845
Google "tuning a 1911 extractor."
Then Google your "1911 slide detail strip."

All you need to do is remove your extractor, tune it, put it back in, and test it. Do this until it's ejecting perfectly. I do this about every 500rds. It's really easy to do once you've done it for the first time.

I learned how to do it entirely from google btw so you're already set up perfectly to learn the entire process.
>>
>>29887890
Never had an issue with mine and I have shot all sorts of crap through it to see what will and will not work. Winchester white box hollow points have feed issues.
>>
>>29887914
Cool. Too bad I burned through my 45 in another before knowing this.
... is this extractor system unique to 1911 models? I'm pretty new.
>>
>>29887893
or claw, w/e

I'm running on 5hrs of sleep over the past three days, mistakes are happening left and right at the moment, nothing is clear fo r me
>>
>>29887942
Finals?
>>
>>29887845
Does the case stay in the chamber or does it extract and catch on the ejection port?
If the former then see the helpful anon's post about tuning the extractor. If it's the later then you very well might have a short or broken ejector, which is not an easy fix without the proper tools, but it's a fairly inexpensive job for a gunsmith.
>>
>>29887922
Yeah. It uses an internal extractor.
>>
>>29887946
>>29887949
I remember it jamming in the ejection port. "Stovepipe" I believe.
I had it out this weekend and it would stay in the chamber.

It might be both?

>>29887949
How does this compare to others? I've been trying to work out a list of crap I want to buy.
>>
>>29887942
Maybe you shouldn't post then.
>>
>>29887945
Life and insomnia. I'm thinking I may have developed an irregular circadian rhythm, because it seems to be about every ten days I get completely drained.
>>
>>29887961
>might be both
The ejector rarely is the problem, usually you see it on diy YouTube "gunsmith" abortions or really high round count pistols.
Try tuning the extractor first. I'd also swap the mainspring and recoil spring for new ones, that never hurts.
>>
>>29887961
I've never owned a 1911 with an internal extractor but if it isn't tuned right it will have issues. I've only owned SIGs and they have an external extractor. Pretty much the same as on every other modern pistol. Works great until something breaks.

I'm not that hardcore of a 1911 fan so my opinion and thoughts are probably not the best to listen to.
>>
>>29887922
Like other guy said, yes. Internal extractor. it's just a long thin rod, you can see the back end on the back of your slide, it's the *almost* full circle thing. That piece of metal extends forward through a small cylindrical channel and pokes out in the middle of the slide as the extractor. It's just a long piece of metal.
it should bow inward *slightly,* toward the .45 casing. The tension on it, from being bowed out *slightly* each time a round is chambered, causes it to lose a slight amount of springiness. This is solved by removing it, bowing it back inward *slightly* and BAM, it's fine again.

I hope you have 1 spend brass and 1 live round laying around, you'll need those two things to test out the tension once you *slightly* bend it back into place. It's a fun process and you're now going to immediately learn how the entire slide assembly works just by removing the extractor. :)
>>
>>29887986

Yeah. Don't expect it to work this same night, but it won't make you more awake either. Also, I found during University the best way to wake the fuck up on a slow groggy morning was to flip open my laptop, turn off flux, and press my face to the screen. Jesus christ the blue. It burns.

They've kept it on the list (have also seen a bobtail model on the list)

They're nice and I think if you're lucky you can find them close to $1000 but then again CA gun stores are never competitive with their prices because they know you either buy from them or if you have them do a transfer you pay a ridiculous transfer fee (some places want $75+) and you still fucking pay tax- yes even on out of state purchases and I'm not sure why this is legal for California to do since it is taxing interstate commerce.

My needs aren't really much, I just need a gun that I can rely on as much as my USP, that can shoot accurately, but still has quality built in. The only thing that's hanging me up is the barrel, which would be expensive to replace and fit.

Any Loaded owners here?

California has a "safe handgun" roster, basically initially intended as a whitelist for guns that were built to certain safety standards, but between the DOJ and gun companies not giving a shit about paying for California's "testing," the majority of new production handguns get defacto banned (for sale, not possession).

It used to be you could get around it by using an extended .25 conversion barrel (available as commercial kits) or a "single shot" conversion (usually as simple as shipping it with a 1 round mag) to import them into the state, but they recently closed that "loophole."

CA was my home for 20 years and I loved it but oh my god am I glad not to be dealing with that government anymore.

Did you replace the full-length guide rod on yours? I'm going to, just wondering if the GI plug is a drop-in part or if I need to fit that too.

Actually I did the reverse, it came with the GI plug but I wanted the full guide rod. They both are drop-in parts

>>29896484
Yeah the finish on these Citadels isn't perfect but I feel it is ever-so-slightly better than ATI's and honestly just a little bit behind Springfield, but the fit is awesome on these guns, very little rattle even after breaking it in and have been like 99% reliable.

They say that, but it was actually put into place as a backdoor ban with the option for manufacturers to bribe your politicians to get their guns on the list.

So I learned the hard way, it takes down / reassembles slightly different than other 1911 variants. Has double recoil springs and the recoil spring guide is only about a 1/2" long. That part makes it even more fuckety to reassemble.

Came with 2 six round mags. Hoping I can get some 7 or 8 rounders that'll fit it.

yeah yeah i know. it didn't have any scratches like that in that spot before. obviously i dun fucked up. now i'm hesitant to take it down again. it can't be that hard to put the Slide lock lever back in.
Do you just push it straight in from the side? or are you supposed to rotate it up and in at the same time? the instruction manual makes no fucking sense
>>
>>29904698
There are plenty of videos on how to avoid it. Just google it. My advice is just get the Slide stop as close to the little pin as you can, so it makes as little contact as possible with the frame.

ok so yeah i went and found some YT videos which are literally titled "how to avoid the idiot scratch"
So you're supposed to push up and in at the same time so basically pushing it in at about a 45 degree angle.
It's still a bitch and gonna take some practice to git gud

Springfield is about the best manufacturer for the money.

My TRP is the shit. But rails are for faggots, so I would nix the operator models.
>>
>>29887272

Not necessarily, but they're not worth the price tag, unless you find them on sale for about 800
>>
>>29906173
>best manufacturer for the money.
idk, i'm looking at those Auto-Ordnance 1911A1 WWII G.I. models.
Looks like a pretty good buy for the money. and that authentic reproduction
>>
>>29906211

The auto's are a really good beater, kind of like the RIA's, but they use a casting process rather than forging the slides/frames.

If you want a mil spec, fuck yeah, go auto ordnance. But if you want something more modern, go for a springfield, colt, ruger or remington.

fwiw, STI makes a super smooth mil spec model. My store has them for 800, if you get a chance, look into them.
>>
>>29891223
Armscor makes them, aimed at the international market, they are effectively the same as RIA.
>>
>>29906498
ah, i think i'd rather have forged

Anybody in their right mind would, but the point of a beater is something relatively inexpensive that you won't be afraid to get scratched up and well, beat.

I'm thinking of one just for general innawoods fuckery.

nope. there's a plunger tube with a little detent you have to compress. i figured it out after about two months of 1911 ownership, but it wasn't intuitive.

Don't buy "beater" guns. Use the shit out of your quality pieces. They aren't investments and are much more enjoyable being used as tools instead of sitting in the safe until you die.

I've carried a Colt GC for years now. Not high end but it's the most quality I could afford. I love using it and don't feel the "need" to upgrade or buy a second gun due to a lack of quality.

I agree with this, which is why I suggested the STI.

some anons aren't making x per year, so it doesn't hurt for someone to have an RIA or whatever, until they can get something better.
>>
>>29910935

a Baer Concept is honestly one of the best values in 1911s. about $1.5k for a full custom.
