Would an AK fair better than an AR in these circumstances? How about a GALIL? If I'm using tiger stripe I don't want an AR on principle.

I'd probably go with a proper carbine, but it would depend on the density of the jungle. I'd just get something that can have its barrel replaced with a longer or shorter one on whim and just go with that.
