When you've got both firing in opposite directions with tracer belts with the coax auto cannon in quick fire mode, it has to look pretty cool.

I really dig the new paint job and star/ribbon thing Russia's got on their parade vehicles.

How come there aren't big parades like this in the US?

It's got 35mm steel frontal but that doesn't mean it's rated to stop 30mm. I can't find any info from a quick google on its armour so I'll take your word for it

We don't wave our dick around. Cultural thing. Our parades have cartoon characters and corporate logos and smiling girls throwing flowers and cowboys on horseback... and *maybe* an old half-track with some aging veterans on it.
>>
>>29886541
We do have such parades during Veteran's day but at the local level. I know over there in Cali we had a parade in Alameda. Loved the Black Hawk formation and that one Huey flying low at Park St.

Bah. Find an airshow you don't have to pay admission for.

Plus, more than half the exhibits are civilian or archaic aircraft, as a general thing. They are not FUCK YEAH AMERICA chest-beating tax-subsidized displays of firepower flying over Main Street.
>>
>>29886541
>How come there aren't big parades like this in the US?

Believe it or not, America does all its dick-waving just by being America all day every day. Everyone assumes that we have the best, or the most, or both, of everything we need to fuck the world up. So we don't really bother with parades.

Parades like this are mainly for nations whose people have some doubts about their military. They need to reassure their citizens from time to time, that their military-industrial complex is actually producing something besides corruption and fat cats.

In America, we have kind of the opposite problem: Too many citizens assume that our military-industrial complex is *too* productive. Nobody wants to see more of that shit. A lot of people would love to see a lot fucking less.

So, not so many fancy parades as you might expect from a failed-state oligarchy trying to impress its insecure citizens with empty shows of strength.
>>
>>29886814

More of a live action recruitment add for the airforce, and A TON of civ aviation does stunts.

You have to admit we're making impressive strides in that direction, though. Substitute different metrics for the military -- like enforced equality of the sexes, jobs growth, welfare, etc.

>>
>>29886965
Ha. Good point. But I would say that's not failed-state bullshit, so much as it is first-world-problem bullshit. The second world is still trying to make a show of its military. The first world has more than enough military, and has moved on to making a show of ensuring transfags can piss in whatever toilet suits their fancy.

>How come there aren't big parades like this in the US?
When was the last time the US won?
If there ever will be a parade it would have to be sandwiched by an LGBTFABCDE parade and a diversity parade.
Besides it would probably be insanely expensive in true American fashion, remember this is the country that throws half a billion dollars at marching bands alone.
Plus there is no shortage of disgruntled servicemen in active duty, march them in front of a podium full of people they loathe and you get the idea.

I remember building a 1:35 model of a BMP3 about a year ago. I just shook my head at the layout of the crew comprtment. They have to crawl over the engines into the center of the vehicle where the crew compartment and the turret is. The driver is at the centre front of the hull and two his left and right are two infantrymen who man machine guns.

I dont like to bash Russian stuff here because I feel they get a lot of hate, but the layout of the vehicle and the troop compartment is borderline retarded. Other than that, its a fine vehicle, at least as good as what you´d expect from an infantry fighting vehicle.

pic related isnt mine btw, its just a model image I found online, I stepped on my model by accident and crushed the turret...
>>
>>29891053

I believe the general idea here is to achieve the lowest profile, tonnage and production costs possible while maximizing troop carrying capacity.

Look at soviet era vehicle design in the context of the cold war, not today's insurgencies. You need a vehicle to provide effective fire support for your infantry, cross rivers and be fast as fuck all while reducing the hit chance on the vehicle. To the soviets statistical probability was their key to survivability in a total war scenario. The soviets put far more thought into the vehicle's role as part of a whole rather than the vehicle's role as an individual asset, which is likely where this sort of thinking comes from and why factors like crew comfort or even crew survivability are put on the chopping block.

I have no idea how effective this design philosophy would be in the cold war but it has obviously not aged very well.

Im sure it would work well enough if you could get enough of these vehicles to attack like was the plan in the olden days but I see your point about how these things were not even remotely designed for modern day Insurgency king of fighting.

Not really. It's very Russian. For the weight, it's troop and weapons capacity are insane, but there is little to be said for other qualities. It fits their doctrine snuggly, as Russia has unwashed legions of men who would need organic firesupport in a WW3 scenario.
>>
>>29886278
Because possible threats from the front corbers and limited vision of turret mounted weaponry? Also, if the main gun has to engage targets in different direction, you still have the hull MGs operative for soft targets in front of the tank.

Take a look at the picture lads- the visible changes are to the sides which have now fair bit of armor. The up-armoring is for the sides, not the front which is good enough for 14.5mm and smaller.

>I dont like to bash Russian stuff here because I feel they get a lot of hate, but the layout of the vehicle and the troop compartment is borderline retarded. Other than that, its a fine vehicle, at least as good as what you´d expect from an infantry fighting vehicle.
Its not. It just demonstrates that the operational level of war takes precedence in their doctrine. Having fully amphibious vehicles actually opens up a lot of options for the commander for instance and forces the enemy to compensate for the additional mobility of the BMP-3. For instance you can no longer defend against BMP-3 formations crossing a canalizing bridge- you would have to spread your forces across the river bank- which makes your defence much weaker. In this regard the highly awkward layout pays off more than it costs. Plus its very comfy to sleep over the warm engine deck under a roof.

I feel like the front could have used it more but to be honest, it's not really meant for anything but fast troop transport, like if Americans just admitted that Humvees are pointless to armor after a point.

Also don't think that exchanging the mobility of the previous gen was worth making it amphibious but then again I've never really saw it done right so we'll see, I guess.

It doesn't, its good enough. The wavebreaker is hard steel- they can always extend it and watch as autocannon AP rounds tumble and yaw a bit before impacting the Aluminium armor which is thick enough btw, but even if that still fails there is the huge fuel tank behind it still.

>Also don't think that exchanging the mobility of the previous gen was worth making it amphibious but then again I've never really saw it done right so we'll see, I guess.
Look at Kurganets- they substantially improved protection whilst retaining full amphibious capabilities through use of modern materials and smarter arrangement(the turret being unmanned allowed it to be moved further back) .
>>
>>29894809
Frontal armor is higher than that and its rated against 30 AP.
AP 50 bmg rounds can't pen even BMP-2 frontally (see tradoc paper).
