That pic made me think of something.

Do any of you keep spare AKs around in case you have to arm family/friends during an extended SHTF scenario?

I have 3 WASRs that I don't really use anymore but are in perfect working condition and I have a chicom rig and 4 mags for each rifle. I feel like being able to arm 3 people with AKs could be extremely useful if things got bad enough.

So I think I might just get an SLR-104-34 and throw on a wood handguard and bakelite grip rather than get a DDI AK-74. I've had a serious hard on for triangle folders since Conflict: Desert Storm.

>>29885155
DDI makes both AKMS and AKS clones, Century imports Zastavas, Atlantic Firearms has Polish underfolders in their line, and so on and so forth.

When you say the milled vs stamped, do you mean the M70 ABM vs the PAP series? Take my word with a grain of salt since I'm not super knowledgeable on Zastava AKs, but the the milled one is likely a higher quality rifle than the PAP.

>>29885234
How is the accuracy on that? I've got a Polish friend who told me to stay away from WZ88s because their design is retarded and they're ungodly inaccurate compared to regular AK-74s.

Obzor has the whole cool Russian optic design behind it and is just a really, really neat optic but it's like $400, and the Aimpoint is a solid proven and great bang for your buck optic but they look ugly on AKs imo

I know a few private dealers of Russian optics who sell them around $400 to $450 ish. Kashtans are the ones that usually go for around $600, which are really cool but that's $200 shy of an excellent Comp M4.

I see no reason why a 74 with an Obzor would be nothing more than a fuck around range gun.
>>
>>29885275

Nope.rar

Milled Yugo = kit gun, either on a sewer-pipe surplus barrel or an American barrel.

PAPs are new-production Zastava guns with CHF barrels

Sorry, I thought that you were posting a picture of someone else's SAR-2 to go along with your desire for an AK-74. The SAR-2 is, of course, Romania's answer to adopting 5.45 without retooling their factories away from AKMSs.

>>29885566
I think comparing the Kashtan to the Comp M4 is a bit silly because the Kashtan is a magnified optic and therefore has a different purpose than that of a red dot. I'd totally buy a Kashtan to compare to my ACOG and just because I like the look of it, and it's not too bad for that price, but I'd never compare it to a red dot because they're just completely different optic styles.

I'm not saying that it can't be more than a fuck around range gun, but if I were to buy a gun that I were to use for, say, hog hunting or hurr durr SHTF, I'd want what's most functional rather than what looks the best, and the Obzor is just less functional due to having a limited lifespan that's much harder to replace than a watch battery, has a high degree of tint with glass quality below that of Aimpoint which makes for a worse picture in most situations, and has a restricted FOV compared to an Aimpoint.

It's Bulgarian wood that's been refinished
>>
>>29885659
Not him but

>having a limited lifespan
It doesn't have a life span, that's what's cool about it. It's a collimating optic, similar to an ACOG. It uses light and nothing else. There is a separate reticle that is tritium that has a lifespan of 12 years, but even after those 12 years the main reticle is still a separate and fine.

>that's much harder to replace than a watch battery
There is no battery to replace. The only part with a lifespan that theoretically could be replaced is the separate tritium reticle after 12 years but I doubt that is possible or cost efficient.

>has a high degree of tint
Not really, it's only slightly blue

>with glass quality below that of Aimpoint
I'm sure it is worse than an Aimpoint but I'm not sure how worse

>which makes for a worse picture in most situations
It still has a clear picture

>and has a restricted FOV compared to an Aimpoint.
True, the rear lens is only like 20 millimeters or something which is pretty small. I have no idea why they decided on something that small.

>>
>>29885936
So it's got fiber optic in it then? I thought it was just tritium, which is a shit idea because once the optic craps out you're kind of fucked with it. With an ACOG it wouldn't be too hard to send it back to the factory, but that would probably be much harder when you're talking about a factory in Russia. At the end of the 12 year lifespan you've lose night capability with the optic (I hunt a lot at night, so that means a lot to me).

>Not really, it's only slightly blue
It's an extremely deep purple tint, dude. The Aimpoint is a very slight blue, but the Obzor is ridiculous.

>It still has a clear picture
I call upon QB to post the photo of his Obzor.

>True, the rear lens is only like 20 millimeters or something which is pretty small. I have no idea why they decided on something that small.
It makes even less sense when you consider the size of the optic. The optic itself is massive, but the actual viewing lens is tiny and the reticle is a bit large for something of that size, which makes for a rather obscured view.

>At the end of the 12 year lifespan you've lose night capability with the optic

>It's an extremely deep purple tint, dude. The Aimpoint is a very slight blue, but the Obzor is ridiculous.
Yeah I saw that in qb's pic and didn't realize it was that deep.

>It still has a clear picture
Deep purple yes, but is it fuzzy or blurry or whatever?

>It makes even less sense when you consider the size of the optic.
It's a huge block with a tiny lens to look through which just seems counter intuitive to me. I've read it works alright when shooting with both eyes open though but if both eyes open is your thing then you could do it even better with a proper red dot.

Buy an AR first.

>>
>>29887046
OP's pic is an M70AB2.

They're kit guns with American barrels, so they're not chrome-lined and they're also not the ultra-beefy CHF Zastava barrels overbuilt to compensate for lack of chrome.

NPAP-DF is the same thing without the grenade sight/gas cutoff and bulged receiver (both of which are for shooting grenades), but WITH a factory-new Zastava barrel.

>I just don't like that they're not chromed

Chrome-lining matters a lot less than it's made out to on the internet. Mostly guns are chrome-lined to extend barrel life under sustained automatic fire, with corrosion resistance a distant second. However, Zastava barrels are overbuilt and very high-quality.

Also look at how many Zastava AKs and AKs built on Zastava tooling are getting used in conflict right now without any issue.

I'm not saying chrome-lined Yugo barrels wouldn't be nice but holy shit it shouldn't be a deal-breaker

Learn that "aftermarket" and "customized" doesn't mean shit to the vast majority of buyers. They just don't know what any of it means.

You're selling three things: gun, red dot, ammo. Find the cheapest online price for each of those and multiply that by 80%-85% for your total. If you want to haggle, list it a 90+%

The DD free float quad rails get fucking close

AR15 stocks, with a few exceptions, are just pieces of plastic with rubber on the end of them. The Zenitco stocks are milled aluminum with various adjustable parts. Not justifying $400 for a stock, but it makes sense that a folding and adjustable AK stock is going to cost more than an AR15 stock, especially since the AR15 stock market is much more competitive.

seems to work fine for the russians. you can always get a stock with an adjustable cheek piece. Those Zenit stocks are sexy as fuck.

>>

$500 to build if you already have all the tools, jigs, and other bullshit. $800-1000 to have built, buy as a complete rifle (if you don't mind trash barrels or hunting around), or if you want to build it yourself and don't mind paying for specialized jigs and other shit that you'll only use once.
>>
>>29891695
I'd buy the shit out of that thing for $250-300

Not to change gears, but did anyone ever have a wandering zero on an AK? I just got my Tantal rebarreled and can't seem to group in one place. I thought I had it zeroed because 2 groups were pretty much on, and then my next 5 groups were just everywhere. I'll check again to see if it was shooter error or the horrible wind that day, but damn is this depressing.

Ive had this problem a good bit lately, actually, where I can't seem to get groups in one consistent place. Don't know what I'm doing wrong as I was always a good shot.

Whats the best and cheapest chest rig i can get for 7.62 aside from the chicom ones? around 150 dollar budget.
>>
>>29894521
Go to grey-shop. I just bought a beetle rig for something light. There's plenty of good rigs, but just make sure they'll hold AKM mags. I have a Ukrainian assault vest that barely holds the 8 5.45 mags its supposed to, even though it's rated for both calibers.

SPOSN Jaeger is another option.

Oh sure recommend him the muslamb rig. Not only will he lose his mags, but there may even be an explosive filled water bottle in there.
>>
>>29894521
Midway USA has 8 round AK mag satchels for about twenty bucks. Velcro closures, your choice of designer colors, etc. It's not a chest rig, you just grab it and throw it over your shoulder. I am hearing nothing bad about them.

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/991707/midwayusa-8-magazine-pouch-ar-15-and-ak-47-rifle

With eight loaded steel mags it's going to be one heavy motherfucker but I guess you could load it up with Bulgy polymer mags instead.

Also, not pictured is the T2 on the 107fr. I'm deciding what magnified optic to get on the 104fr.

>>
Which is the western optic who works the best with the ak platform in your opinion?
>>
>>29895124
For what it's worth, I still like my WASR best out of all my AKs. I slapped on a dong and refinished all the wood in a walnut stain/Boiled Linseed oil. It looks decent, but not as good as my Assenal or the others. HOWEVER, it has it where it counts. Its my most accurate AK and the only one I've never had to piss with to sight in (which is proving to be quite a trial the more AKs I get). It also balances much better than the others in that it's not super fucking front heavy. Its comfortable to shoot over long periods and the cheekweld is better than what I get on my other 4 AKs. To be honest, I got it back in 2011 as a beater gun and didn't expect much, but through more experience, I found I loved it best.

Maybe you just need a change of furniture or something to keep it interesting. Be thankful, its probably one of the best AKs you can get apart from the lemons and rough finish.

You have a point, good sir.

I'm thinking about putting an AKM/early AK74 type wooden lower handguard on my WASR but I can't find one. I'm looking for one of the laminated ones, unfinished or with a matte oil finish only, and palm swells.

Like the pic, but with the metal parts too.
>>
>>29895124
They're both good AKs, WASR is probably best in class for an AKM pattern rifle you can buy off the shelf
>>
I want another sling for my SLR 104. My current one is the Bulgarian one it came with it's a little too short. I'd like to keep it authentic with a proper milsurp sling, but between Russian and Bulgarian milsurp 74 slings which one is longer?
>>
>>29895430
All surplus laminated LHG's will have been shellacked originally. The only way you'll find an unfinished one is from ironwood, or from someone who has stripped a surplus one I guess. Your best bet is to find a dingy refurb surplus LHG and just sand the finish off and do what you will with it.

It's worth believing. Other AK brands seem to be falling on their faces, meanwhile the classic WASR still stands strong.
>>

It didn't use to be.
The WASR got shit on for a very long time.
It took years of steadily putting out good rifles for them to crawl out from under the What A Shitty Rifle moniker.
>And that still persists amongst some people.

Bang for your buck, you can't beat a good WASR.

If I were going with a railed gas block then I'd get a T1 in a heartbeat but the thought of a T1 on a side rail just seems weird. If I go red dot I'd prefer a proper tube over a T1. I can deal with a few more ounces.

One day I will pick up a T1 for my Cx4 Storm, though.

Unlike the solid folders that have the button on the butt to push the latch on the receiver, you have to unlatch it manually with either a thumb or finger.

Here's a pic of a triangle latched.
You'll see most guys with tourniquets, that it's not all the way to the butt of the stock.
That gives clearance to let the latch catch, and to allow them to get a digit in there to unlatch it when needed.
