What an ironic picture
HMS Eagle. She began life as the Chilean battleship Almirante Latorre.
Another angle.
HMS Hood and her crew at Malta in 1939.
A British glider is launched and released during Operation Varsity.
>>29888269
Eagle was built from the hull of Almirante Cochrane, sister ship to Almirante Latorre.

My old man is in that photo somewhere he served on the Herpes.
Also my great great great grandfather was at Rorkes Drift.
Supposedly in second row but not annotated.
>>29888285
Right you are, Latorre was the one they finished. Admiral Cochrane himself was one of the most /k/ people ever to have lived.

>ERA covering the Dorchester
>Additional small plate covering ERA for three laters before the hull armour itself
>Thick Dorchester block on lower glacis
>Dorchester belly armour underneath
>RWS added
>Thermal cameras for driver front and rear added
>Soft-Kill IED Countermeasures added
>Cage/Bar/Slat armour added to rear of hull

The often forgotten Bermuda Regiment of the British Overseas Regiments. Technically not part of the British Army, but effectively part of the overall UK military standing in their defence of an overseas territory of the UK.
Seen here with the Mini-14s, which was until very recently their service rifle. They've since swapped to the L85A2, being donated a few hundred by the UK.
>>29891211
helicopter procedure.
>>29891221
The somewhat less forgotten Falkland Islands Defence Force. Moreso than the Bermuda Regiment, these are definitely part of the UK defence network, given they train under British Army instructors, model on the British Army and work alongside the British Army on the islands.
Mostly made of reservists, they train to be a light recon and response force against incursions, with Land Rovers, Quads and Small skiffs as their primary transports, with some LMGs and sniper rifles as specialist weapons. They use AUGs, after the L85 was considered too expensive at the time for their limited budget.
>>29891211
They usually have a thread protector and it's safer in a vehicle like that anyway,

The very often forgotten Royal Gibraltar Regiment. Unlike the other two these are officially part of the British Army and are effectively just any other Regiment, except stationed almost permenantly on the Big ol' Rock and routinely love to piss off the Spanish with their being there. But they very often get forgotten as a nice extra few hundred men to be called upon and have occasionally deployed.
As can be seen, they use the L85, given they are standard equipped as part of the actual Army.
>>29891244
>>29891247
Never had SOPs like that because /light infantry/, have to walk literally everywhere
Still, isn't it bad to rest the weight of the rifle on the barrel?

If you have a crown or you're slamming it on the ground; if merely resting, it's fine for a combat gun.
>>29891247
spend any time working out of helicopters and this one of the first things they will tell you. Better to have an ND through the floor than up into the engine/fluid lines. Also, much less likely to blow someones head off. Its a very basic SOP that, if you truly never heard of, your NCO's failed you.

Off the top of my head:
Thinkdefence co uk (comments and posters are top tier)
ukdefencejournal org uk/ (OP posts are very good, comment posters are typically retarded)
defencetalk com/forums/ (highest quality posts that exist in the entire internet defence sphere --- not UK focused, but there's a cadre of UK focused posters)
savetheroyalnavy org/ (good source of info --- check their links page for more websites)
Arrse co uk (the army's unofficial forum -- great for learning the meta)
navy-net co uk/ (the royal navy's unofficial forum --- same as above)
ukarmedforcescommentary blogspot co uk/ (good posts, also great links on the right)

In addition to those ones, there's also a small-ish forum which I've been lurking on lately. It's a bit quiet at times, but still makes for good lurking. It covers a range of topics and is kept serious and sober, unlike ARRSE and the like: http://ukdefenceforum.net/

How are the navy discussions?
>>29902619
They're the most active threads on the site by far (which I kinda think is its downfall, since there's not as much activity in the army or air force sections). The QE and Type 31 threads make for fairly enjoyable reads. There's lots of well informed posters from various different backgrounds. The QE thread actually has a guy from the ACA in it who sometimes contributes interesting OC. All the "big name" bloggers/analysts are on there too, such as the UK Armed Forces Commentary guy and Think Defence.
I'm on there mainly for the photos and videos. Some of the guys on there are very active on social media and usually pick up and share very interesting and rare media. I think the guy who owns the site also owns the British Defence News on YouTube.
