Is the A2 front sight dead?

Looking to build myself another AR, I've been searching for a nice midlength barrel with the A2 front sight post pinned on. It's been a harder search than I though it would. Additionally, fewer and fewer ARs are seen with them, with everyone opting for longer handguards.

It got me thinking. Just how backwards is it for me to want this on my rifle? I do plan on using optics on this gun, but don't think that means I need to get rid of the battle-proven front sight to do that.

What are your thoughts, /k/? Is the A2 front sight worth getting anymore?

In my opinion it's still far more durable than a front flip up, and I don't mind the front sight in my sight picture when using a red dot.

Plus BAYONETS.

>BAYONETS
I'll have to admit that this is heavily influencing my decision.
>>
Couldn't you just get that YHM folding front sight gas block? You still get your dinky little bayonet lug. However, it's not pinned, so I don't know what would happen should you actually try to use it.
>>
Sorry to threadjack, bUT I'm seriously considering grabbing another lower to do a pistol build and sbr paperwork, anyone have some pictures of good looking sbrs to influence my decision?

What's up with your angled foregrip senpai, why not use the magwell?

Also when did you put in paperwork and how long did it take?
>>
>>29874358
im actually building a rifle now that has a front sight post because i thought it looked cool
>>
You know you can just buy a barrel and install the A2
>>
>>29874358
fixed front sights for optics dedicated guns are outdated and pointless at this point in the game
Especially when it makes your gun no longer free floated

flip ups are superior

this is the biggest meme gun I've ever seen

I have an a2 front sight post on my mid length ar. Should I shave it down to work with a Troy 15 inch alpha rail or should I keep the sight with a delta rail?
>>
>>29877548
You should not get a troy rail
>>
>>29874358

I you are primarily using optics and you aren't doing some kind of aesthetic retro build, having a fixed front sight is a minor downside in my books. It interferes with FOV of red dots and despite what people say, I find it noticable with 4x optics. It is not the biggest downside in the world, and it works decently if its a .mil issued rifle, but for a personal rifle its something where I'd rather have it out of the way and have my barrel free float some more.

But if you like the aesthetic, or you just happen across one for cheap, I'd grab it.

If you get one though. Just make sure to get an "F" type instead of a standard type if you have a flattop receiver. The "F" type is a tiny bit taller to allow it to match up with the height of the rear sight on a rail.

I built my 10.5 SBR with a fixed front sight. I'm not sold on this grip though and I'll probably just switch to a handstop. Probably going to find some ultralight microdot mount and a PA or used H1/T1 for it eventually, thinking it'll probably be lower 1/3rd co-witness height.

nice job, love the pistol grip

How's it like being stuck in the 70's, old man?
Even the military has relegated irons to back up use and moved on to a combination of ruggedized magnified optics and RDS on everything but sidearms... over a decade ago.
FF and direct attachment systems are only a question of time.

Thank you! It's just the Magpul MOE one, although it is very comfy.

I completed it around the same time I was completing an A4 style rifle. A2 FSB 4 lyfe.
>>
Wait, A2 rifles can't freefloat?

It's good if you're building a basic gun that you're not going to be using for pure accuracy, but it's easier to get a prebuilt upper and get rid of the original handguard. Brownells has a tutorial on how to remove a front sight post so you can install a free float handguard, then remount the FSP.

Except that A2 sights are inherently more accurate than rail mounted front BUIS
>>

of course they can

If you are counting on primarily using optics, then flip ups are better.

If you plan on shooting precisely with irons, you want the front sight base attached to the barrel. Have your sling or bipod attached to the free float tube for consistent grouping.

>>29878788

> Free floating is only a matter of time

I thought the KAC drop in rails had been issued for some time now.
>>
>>29879106
Most of those are not free floating (e.g., the RAS rails).
>>
>>29879150

We both talking about the same RAS?

No, these don't go on standard M4 / A4.
The M5 RAS do and these aren't free float.

M4/M5 RAS.

You realize you can put on just one of the sections as a hand stop, right? Or keave one end open?
>>
>>29874487
Is there enough space on them that if you were so inclined, you could drill and pin it yourself?
>>
>>29874358
Its not dead for me. I've been trying to find a mock dissipator 300 blk barrel with a pistol length gas system that can accommodate a KAC M4 RAS quad rail.

There's at least one flip-up sight with a bayonet lug.

If you ever want to into low-crawling or swimming with your weapon, the front sight is a very handy and durable place to hold. Easier to hang onto than a sling swivel too.

>>
>>29879521
wait why the fuck do you want pistol gas on 10inch barrel?
carbine was literally designed for 10 then adapted to 14.5 later

if you were doing a 7.5 or something sure pistol length but it sounds like nobody makes it for the same reason there are no 20inch barrels drilled for carbine gas
the reason being its retarded
