Belts with Kevlar - worth it? Thinking about getting one and complementing it with dick protection on the pc.
>>
Ok correct me if I'm wrong and this may be retarded, but I've heard having magazines on your back panel of your PC are usefull but not for use by you, they are if someone behind you needs them in a firefight, rather than having to take your focus off theenemy your buddy can just pluck one out. Is this even remotely true?

Rarely if ever is someone keeping magazines on there back (outside of a backpack.) The pouches you are seeing are almost always bangers or demo charges... things actually useful for entry and accessible by the stack.
>>
>>29872833
I'm guessing these are only really used on short range patrols or direct action missions, I can imagine wearing that with a ruck over it would drive you mad if having to go long distance.

You have only the multicam bashing hipsters to thank for that. But hey, there's plenty of other trends to revisit like desert chocolate chip, tigerstripe or heck even ACU might be the next cool kid camo.

if you think you're going to be encountering shrapnel or people shooting pistol rounds at your nether regions, then go for it.

>>
>>29873183
My belt isn't going to be that heavy since I can't have a sidearm anyway.
I do already have a plate carrier.
>>
Forgive my errant faggotry, but is there anywhere I can get a Flecktarn plate carrier? Is good camo for my area and the only place that I can find to sell them is an air shit company.
>>
>>29873419

No, you can find the big flak vests but legit plate carriers are pretty much nonexistent. Smart move would be buying a green carrier and apply spray paint and stencils to make it fleck. Don't buy airshit. If you had sewing skills you could buy some flecktarn 500 or 1000d nylon cordura and make one but that would require effort on your part.
>>
>>29873566
Yeah I'm honestly considering cutting up a couple parkas and just sewing up my own carrier.

I doubt that the parkas' fabric will have the tensile strength you want

Personally I'd day go with a decent OD/RG plate carrier and maybe throw this ontop of it:

http://www.tacgear.de/produkte/chest-rig-standard_en.php

maybe this even??http://www.tacgear.de/produkte/lightweight-modular-vest_en.php
>>
>>29873913
those things don't look all that special for what they are. the zipper molle panel for rapid loadout changes is cool, but the american swift clips system with chest rigs is just better. I think a normal od or ranger green plate carrier would be fine.
>>
>>29873913
I'm fucking retarded. I lloked at your pic and thought that's what your recommending, the finnish special force plate carrier. While it's nice, it's not special. but a slick plate carrier plus fleck chest rig sound solid.

For someone who's done backpacking (beyond dayhiking), how is SERE different? I guess I'm wondering as to how much of a focus there is on the 'enemy is out there' aspect versus just surviving the elements.
>>
>>29875040
Considering the "advanced interrogation" techniques used on "terrorists" are reverse engineered from SERE training I expect there is some shit that isn't public regarding the career field.

>>
>>29875067
I wasn't focusing on the 'C' aspect of the SERE in that; my understanding is that it's more than waterboarding, walling, and being put in the box.
>>
>>29875040
Great question brother. The Survival portion of SERE focuses on surviving long term and meeting your 5 basic needs (Health, Personal Protection, Signaling/comms, sustenance, travel). It's a very small portion of SERE as most of the field portion focuses on Evasion. IE, combat/enemy is out there and trying to catch you.

The differences you are going to see are mostly how evading from an enemy makes everything 10x more shitty. Plus taking into consideration camo, light/noise discipline. Most people freak out when they realize we aren't following trails and bushwack the entire way. So even though a lot of guys come in with backpacking experience few have gone through anything like SERE.

Stuff like that. It was pretty cool. I try to get out and practice what I've learned to keep the skills I learned sharp. My buddy and I are looking to do another class in the near future.

Honestly the only thing you really need to train to be a better "gun fighter" is a shot timer. There's a ton of instructional videos on YouTube that you can replicate and with the aid of the timer you can can set par times for drills.

I can't tell you how much I've improved with reloads and rapid trigger control since I started doing timed drills.
>>

Shit a few buddies of mine are talking about making a giant surplus order of ammo for like 5 people. We're thinking of like 6000-7000 rounds in one purchase. If I'm not already on a watch list, that purchase sure would put me there.

Debating on either
a) Selling my multicam ak chest rig with the ifak and getting all digi flora gear
b) keeping it and doing the same, but now I have less money
c) or just camo mix like a heathen

What's up you tall freak? Go for the multicam. I have it and it works wonders in my location in the southwest US. I've never gotten a chance to try it in a greener environment like yours but I've heard it works well there too. You could get the digi flora one but like another anon said, good luck finding one without taking out a small loan.

>>29878734
looks ranger green to me. But I'm color blind so it could also be OD.
>>
>>29878747
I have multicam BDUs, it's why I bought the rig in the first place. And I could go full GQ and have two sets of gear for two camos, but I don't have much money (college).
Plus I can get digi flora shit from here
http://www.r-karbid.com/katalog/razgruzochnye-sistemy/plejt-kerriery/plitonosec-cubano-cortes
For a very good price
The expensive shit is the stolen and exported russian gear on ebay.
>>
>>29873228
Your shorts are way too long.
>>
>>29878774
If only I could read those moon runes. If it's a good price then I'd say go for it. You seem to be a big digi flora fan and if it works in your area I'd say go for it. As nice as it would be to have multiple loadouts with different camo it's more cost effective to find one camo that works well in your area and stick with it. That's what I did. I also prefer gear in solid colors to wear with non camo clothing as well. With certain color clothes the camo gear still works but I prefer solid colors for gear. Camo for clothing. But that's just me.
>>
>>29878806
I thought about doing solid gear, but I'm torn as to what color to get, some sort of green would probably be best. I wanted to run a slick and a rig, but I'm not so sure now.

Riddle me this, GQ:

I have a DBAL I2 and Surefire 952V white/IR light with a Surefire SR-D-IT dual tape switch ordered and on the way.

I can't decide if I want to put them on my 10.5" or 16" AR, what say ye?

Keep in mind that I'll be using a silencer with both--which gives the 10.5" a leg up, but since I'll be hunting with it, the extra velocity of a 16" gun would also be useful.

Dumb question but what's the difference in organization between Norwegian 2nd Battalion and Telemark Battalion? Is it just that TMBN has a tank squadron?
>>
>>29881737
IIRC, TMBN is the Nord's only deployable battalion. So they their regular Army that is full of conscripts, but TMBN is the one they rotate deployable troops out with. I'm not sure how viable it is now that they're slowed down on their missions. I know when I left they were pulling all their OMLTs out of the indian country and pulling all their dudes back to their HQ in Maimana, AFG. They've probably pulled out completely by now.

Just going off memory, I think it was they had about 1000 volunteers willing to deploy, and TMBN would be manned by about 500 at a time. That way they could rotate guys out.

So they still had their cool guys units, but TMBN was their only actually forward deploying battalion.

Upon doing some research, it looks like 2BN is their other deployable battalion, but it's a light unit and TMBN being mechanized, and it looks like TMBN deploys a whole lot more than 2BN did. Probably because of their larger numbers and the equipment they bring with them.

I need some assistance, gents. I'm looking for something that would work with a setup like pic related (it's actually me wearing my actual gear for hunting). It gets quite cold so I need my thick gear, but I'd like a way to carry my AR mags (lets say 1 spare mag minimum, 3 max) while hog hunting.

Chest rig isn't going to work well, i've also got a mil-surp LBV that doesn't work at all. Seems like all the load bearing stuff out there is meant to be worn over 1 or 2 thin layers.

What options do I have?

I would prefer something that would just attach to a belt, but I feel like they are all too high up. The mag is literally digging into your rib cage when you sit. If I could find a simple 1-mag belt attachment pouch that rode lower than 'normal', I think that would be what I'm looking for.

You could try cinching a battle belt around your waist. Or use a regular belt and run the mag behind your hip so you can sit more comfortably. Pic related.

>>29883305
I meant the wide range of sizes are good for you since you were saying you had difficulty fitting stuff over the winter layers. Setting the mags farther back near the kidneys may work for getting them out of the way when you sit.

>Is carrying mags on the leg a thing?

It has been done most certainly. When guys are getting ready to go into combat they try many different ways to strap ammo to themselves. But it's not exactly a "thing" in the sense of being especially common. If it were a thing, I'd say carrying 2 or 3 mags is the outside limit of what any soldier would continue to do after a first experiment. 6 mags is crazytown in terms of weight. If you're carrying a full backup combat load, it's time to just toss that shit into a pack.

I have a little fobbit rig that is a molle panel with one rifle, one pistol, and a NOD pouch. It is fine for range stuff, but it gets tiring for long rucks. I know several guys who keep IFAKs on drop legs, and that can work pretty well.

More than enough, 100m is more than enough, 200m is just an insurance. recommend getting a g-shock or suunto all black. I've had both, used them for ice water, all kinds of mud, showered with it for a year, temp down to -30C and up to +30C, swimming multiple times, etc. Worked great for me.

I've only had problem once, and that was with the suunto, when I didnt close the battery lid properly like a retard. It fogged a bit under the "glass", and it rusted around some parts of the battery. I just took out the battery, cleaned most of the inside for rust, closed the lid properly and I've never experienced it again.
Battery life of the suunto is everything from 8months to a year in my experience.

G-shock is awesome tho, probably the most robust and not too expensive(depending on what model).

I really love my 100m rated Suunto. I wore it on actual dives where we went deep, and it survived probably 100~ seawater dives and being worn in the desert like a champ. It was a fully functional dive watch, but the compass feature was a "nice to have" until I got a real dive watch.
