Have you ever played Battlefield? It's a large-scale multiplayer game, so none of the stuff you mentioned really makes sense.

It's a heavily multiplayer-biased game and there's almost zero chance of any superpower fuckery or anything, because there's not really any such thing as a "protag" in a BF game. (Aside from the campaign that nobody cares about.)

I actually appreciate the "niggers" in the trailer, because it means the game is actually going to feature the Ottoman front and other parts of WWI that everybody usually forgets about. I assume they're just highlighting them in the trailer because it's a unique thing.

Honestly it'll probably be a lot like BF1942, where there are way too many SMGs and LMGs on the battlefield and soldiers can tank too much damage, and a random LMG gunner can somehow fly a plane on the spur of the moment, but it'll otherwise be relatively authentic.

What worries me more is the talk of pilot and tanker classes, which implies to me that they're going the Battlefront route and making vehicles something you have to spawn into. That was one of the things that pissed me off about SWBF, because the ability to freely flow from infantry to vehicle combat and back was a major defining feature of the series. Sure, it was unrealistic, but it was also a lot of what made BF fun.

At the end of the day this is a commercial product made for entertainment. Capturing the reality of WW1 would be impossible in a video game, with the exception of some pc only WW1 shooters mostly found on steam, we would have ascpects of the game like this: Press X to not die from frostbite, Press X to see friend get eaten by lice while covered in mud, Press X to not die of Cholera. Also there will not be any super-powers Battlefield is a series built on faux-realism its a series were you can play any part of a battle or jump out of a flaming jet parachute down kill 60 dudes and bring a flag back to your base. Nobody would play, age to 18 years become infantry then die chocking on lung fluid GAME OVER.

I'm a bit curious what they'll come up with as the only "LMG" I can think of from the period would be maybe the BAR. As for the rifles I can't really think of any proper semi-auto rifles from that period that won't be weird shit that only 1000 were made.

Other than that, I think it looks neat. Was hoping for Korea/Vietnam though.

The Battlefield trailer as 200,000 likes in 4 hours lol. COD kept trying too hard, they kept trying to go further and further into the future and it just got way too far fetched for me. If I wanted a space age themed FPS/3rdPS I'd play Dead Space or Gears of War. If I wanted to play a game with spaceships I'd play Eve Online.

I've been wanting a solid WWI videogame for a long time and hopefully this is it. There's a lot of room for a good story mode as well as a huge diversity in multiplayer maps.

Remember that BF1942 already had an overabundance of LMG/SMG (only the engineer used a non scoped bolt action rifle or garand) and BF3 and BF4 had no faction locked weapons and a greater choice of which weapon you could use (DMRs for assault, SMG for recon). So from the get go there is no reason to expect that you'll be forced into bolt-actions or be limited to your respective side (Germans with Lewis Guns and SMLEs just like Chinese with P90s, M4s and MG3s in BF4) or that you will be 100% locked to a single weapon type. Also remember there was no chronological consideration in 1942 - STG44 in Afrika Korps maps for instance.

My guess is going off the usual Recon/assault/engineer/support classes:
Recon's exclusive is sniper rifles
Engineer's exclusive is anti-tank rifles and/or flamethrowers
Support's are LMG
Assault is SMG.

Everybody can use bolt actions, various melee weapons, shotguns, pistols. Maybe make assault start bolt action and have to unlock SMG.

Realistic? Course not, but BF has never taken the Red orchestra route when it comes to limiting weapon kits or weapon availability.

My problem is that the cover art and statue is of one man...while I know FPS's are all about power fantasy, really I'd like to see a grim dark tribute to WW1 with two Tommies struggling in the mud and barb wire against a German in a 40k like style where the German has shot the one Tommy in the back and he's dead, but now he's pointing his luger at the charging Tommy that's practically right on top of him with a bayonet affixed rifle.

While there were black soldiers from American volunteers to African colonials levies, they were a minor part of the conflict and while I'm sure a veteran would have a few battlefield loot pick ups, the Mauser is a bit out of place since the holster he has is fore a revolver and his trench club is tiny it looks more like a Maracas.

but really my main concern is that this trailer and I assume the game is going to be fast paced and action packed...when really WW1 is the absolute definition and example of stagnant warfare with very little gains for either side a constant seesaw of wins and losses with most battles being a draw.

There are lots of unique weapons for the time period but mostly it's going to be different flavors of bolt actions, revolvers with some semi auto pistols and exotics like pump shotguns, flame throwers and the early and primitive SMG's light machine guns and auto matic or semi auto rifles but once again, the game Verdun has already done it

While Verdun is an arcade shooter to be sure, it tries it's best to be grounded in reality and historical accuracy and even have jamming guns every once and a while.

Also the biggest thing will be that Tanks in WW1 were slower than snot and broke down most of the time yet in the trailer it looks like that mark 1 looked like it was rolling up like an Abrams.

Also the proliferation of the Red Barron will be annoying.

They've said that their focus with the tanks is to make the regular soldiers be in awe of them and what they can do, that they're capturing the feel of tanks on the WW1 battlefield, not necessarily complete accuracy.
