What, in your opinion, are the best kept budget secrets of the shooting world?

Everyone knows about hi points. I want something different. What hits the good/cheap/cool trifecta?

My submission is the .32 caliber handgun. I'm talking .32 S&W short H&R, old semiauto .32 acp guns like the savage 1907, vest pocket guns and the like. The ammo is expensive for the old wheel guns but for under $300 dollars you can get some pretty cool sidearms.

Thinking of picking up pic related for my first revolver. Also maybe a model-11.

>TFW played way too much RDR in highschool
>TFW 400 hours of Fallout New Vegas
>TFW no big iron on my hip.

Local gun store also has a lot of old .32's and .38 shorts, but .45 colt looks so much more fun to shoot.
>>
>>29837195
So what's your question?
>>
>>29837230
If it's a good buy? A good gun? Something worth getting? It's $450, used, and has a pretty OK finish to it with a little wear on the loading gate.

I'd want to know if it's going to blow up in my hand from cheapness, be horribly inaccurate, or fall to pieces in a couple years.
>>
>>29837230
It's not a q&a thread. He's suggesting saa copies.
>>
>>29837250
If you're getting a .45 LC, for God's sakes load your own rounds.
Also a Makarov is a great gun. Just tie a little rope to the mag release.

The guy at the gun store said I'd be ok as long as I didn't go for P+ or anything. I am thinking of getting into reloading though, to drive the cost down.

Get a colt single action as a purely fun and boast gun.

Thing is though that not only is .32 an anemic round, the pistols that shoot it tend to have shitty grips, near non-existent sites and may not be safe to carry hammer-down on a loaded chamber.

Merwin Hulbert & Co .32 pocket revolver. A classy piece back in my great-grandfather's day. Not exactly state of the art now.
>>
>>29837329
That's what it is, unless you mean an authentic one, in which case I'd have to trip over a solid gold bar on the way to the gun store.
>>
>>29837408
For a sec I thought you'd carry one, sorry.

I too love odd ball .32 pistols.

I have been trying to track down a S&W 31 for years.
I want a Single six in .32 H&R Mag

My buddy has a Dreyse in his shop, that is calling to me.

Also trying to track down a Marlin 1894 in .32 H&R mag

I love my Browning 1922.

I regret passing up a Savage 1907 for $300.

if anyone has a Mosin, get the .32 multi chamber insert. Seriously, it truly makes the rifle more versatile. Stout .32 H&R Mags can pack a wallop on smaller critters at 50 yards (Well thats the farthest I've used it). I can lob 100 grain XTP's out of my m44 at 1500 FPS using very finicky SR 4756. 71 Grain FMJ at 1750ish FPS.
>>
>>29837383
But the action is pure sex and the machining needed would be ass expensive now.

If I had to pick a caliber from back then I'd go with the .38 though.

try shooting a Browning 1922, very damned accurate, uses 1911 GI style sites, down have to worry about hammer down carry since it is a striker fired. With the grip safety it's from what I understand drop safe. And out of that 4 inch barrel, .32 ACP is no joke.

Pic attached is my 1922

The rugers have an ugly finish and a stupid logo. Fite me.

Ended up getting a Cimaron instead. They had one they had ordered for another customer who backed out, so they offered me a $530 Frontier SA for $469, which was only $20 more than they wanted for the used Uberti.

>polymer framed
Ayy lmao!
>>
>>29839429
Ubertis and Cimarrons are made by the same manufacturer, which is Uberti. The ones imported an sold by Cimarron are generally held to a higher fit and finish standard, which is why they command a higher MSRP.
>>
>>29837250
If you know where to look you can buy new for a little over that price. Uberti/Cimmaron revolvers are great guns, the only way to wear them out in your lifetime is if you turn them into a racegun for Cowboy Action. Stock springs tend to be shit though and break easily, but Wolff makes some excellent replacements.

They are accurate as long as the sights are installed correctly at the factory. The biggest factor in accuracy is the ammunition you put through it.

you can find .32S&W short in good shape for cheap

except ammunition is hard to find

like "I have to go to that one C&R table at the once a summer gunshow with the fattest, oldest man working there and have a shouting match into his good ear" hard to find

so reloading is good if you got the set up for it, and you can find .32 acp all over, even at walmart
>>
>>29837166

SIG P250s are pretty fucking cheap, nobody wants them now that the P320 is out.
They have a REALLY GOOD trigger...
For a DAO, so it won't exactly thread a needle at 25 yards unless you are already used to DA/O firearms.
It's no secret that they go for UNDER $400, so save your shekels an extra week or two and you can get one.
You can also get a SP2022 like
>>29838065
reccomends, but the 250 is arguably a better carry gun, as there are Subcompact and compact models. 250s are also FULLY interchangeable with 320s not counting the slides.

I have a Keltec P32 and it suprisingly accurate and easier shooter compared to the .380 ACP and it actually holds 8 rounds.

Got it for my girlfriend, ended up buying her a second one and keeping one as my ultra summer carry, or my winter carry backup piece

I own Uberti in 45LC. Reloading is the only cheaper way of shooting the damn thing due to the cost of 45LC. I know Ruger makes a SA revolver that can swap out cylinders to shoot 45ACP, and you can safely carry it with all rounds in the cylinder.l, unlike Uberti which cannot. For 450 you might as well get a nice Makarov maybe even a E. German variant, and the ammo is cheaper.
>>
>>29840505
I know, the explained it at the store. I could feel the difference when I pulled back the hammer (though to be fair it wasn't a blind trial)

>>29840605
A different gun store had the Ubertis new with a black finish for about the same price, but I much prefer the case hardening.

Ended up getting a still-in-factory-grease Cimaron instead for about the same price. They cut me a deal because someone had ordered it but changed their mind.

Much nicer finish on it, as well as a really nice feeling hammer and a slightly better sight picture.

I'd post pics, but I live in cuckafornia so I won't actually have it for another week and a half.
>>
>>29840840
Planning to reload, but I've also seen ammo as low as .40c a round for it on ammoseek, which is not bad given I can keep the brass afterwards. Once I get a nice little stash going I'll start getting the supplies to reload. I also have a Garand, so reloading is definitely in my future if I want to shoot affordably.

While I like makarovs, I'd need one to be available in CA to buy one, and I specifically wanted a revolver. I love the feeling of cocking back the hammer and the short, gentle tug on the trigger.
>>
If you have a lathe, welder, and dril press you can make a fuck load of cheap guns

$275 pps43:
$200 parts kit with all reciever pieces and intact trunnion
$50 barrel blank
$25 VZ58 striker assembly for semi operation
>>
>>29841093
Well Uberti stay pretty true to Colt SAA. The hammer even clicks 4 times spelling C O L T. I personally don't reload, and I don't shoot enough 45LC to really get into it ( around 45+ freedom bucks for 59 rounds if you buy it at the store). Its more of a gun to show to funsfriends and shoot maybe once or twice a year, for me atleast.

It's pretty fucking accurate, and not much recoil at all. Still I would look into Ruger since you can shoot either ACP or LC out of the same gun. Sorry that you live in commiefornia.

You should also buy three so you can be just like Revolver Ocelot.
>>
>>29842112
Supposedly the only "inaccuracy" is the safety mechanism on the center pin, and I hear you can replace it with an authentic one though I've never seen anyone do it. It doesn't matter too much to me, really.

I looked at rugers, what ones I could find in CA. Supposedly all single action revolvers are on the roster by default and don't need to be listed, but ruger was just so sick of CA's shit that they pulled absolutely all of their handguns. Could be wrong.

Either way, the Cimarron was an easy winner for me in terms of how it looks and feels in the hand. The rugers are modern guns that work like old ones, which to me puts them in the same category as "modern" muzzle loaders. I guess I'm just hipster scum like that.

The Cimarron (which yes, I know is just a tuned-up Uberti) looks like something some gold mining baron might have on his hip as he leads his men out to hunt down savages that have been harassing his camp. The only markings are "Frontier .45 Colt," which is pretty generic and while not authentic by any means doesn't scream "OH GOD HELP ME I'M A REPRO"

The Ruger meanwhile has a big, fuck-you logo on it, modern sights, a transfer bar, and no case hardening. Besides, if I had $$800 I'd probably try to get into a used, modern .357 magnum.

And don't tempt me. I've spent enough money buying guns I've used in vidya.

>>29837166

>>29842415
Ruger only pulled their semiautos except for the LC380 because DOJ fucked them over for making minor changes to rostered guns after the fact without submitting new ones. Almost all of Rugers double action revolvers are rostered. CA only requires double action revolvers and modern semiauto pistols to be rostered. (Although semis are slowly falling off as they go out of production because no new ones can be added because of microstamping) Single action revolvers, C&R pistols, Olympic style pistols, and single shot handguns are exempt.

Ruger has a page of their CA approved guns and notes that all of their single actions are exempt.

>>29842415
Hell, for $700 or so you could get a Match Champion, which 1. Is Cali-legal and 2. Has no pretenses about being anything but a modern, tuned .357 revolver
>>
>>29839363
I would say that but .44 special is pretty hard to find and can cost more then .44 magnum a bit of the time(kinda like how .380 cost more than 9mm) would love one either way.

Its pretty cheap at under $1k for the 4-14x56. You get good magnification range, nice wide objective lens for maximum eyebox.
FFP for those who insist on that
Under $900 for the 3-10x42
>>
If you shoot an enfield or mauser, but hate paying close to a dollar per round, get a few .32acp inserts. Theyre machined steel 303/8mm inserts that you put a .32acp round inaide of. Theyre good for much cheaper plinking, and teaching newbies without the recoil hampering their technique
