Noguns here, im planning on buying a mosin m39 over the summer, take it to the range with my dad. Will probably try to find one locally (Utah). What does /k/ think?
>>
I doubt you'll find one locally. Just order one from collectors firearms if they still have them.
>>
>>29814149
But then how do i confirm if that specimen is any good or not?
>>
>>29814130
Nah, for the price you'll pay now you can shell out a little bit extra for a better bolt gun. Look for a m1903, K98, Enfield. Sure the mosin is fun, its a big bitch and makes you feel like you're charging an mg nest when you're shooting it, but shit, ammo is getting up there and there's more fun to be had with different milsurp rifles. But if you really like the mosin then that's alright too, nothing wrong with them they're just a mosin.
>>
>>29814130
Get a Mauser (no matter which one) instead.
>>
>>29814199
Congrats on having a point, going back on it, then changing your mind again, before making a statement that did not have meaning.

Please sober up.

Anyways, OP, if you want a Finn mosin, order one from classic firearms. They are not common to find at LGS.

you dont. you can buy them handpicked which will give you more assurance as to the quality, and if youre buying milsurp guns just prepare yourself to do some cleaning and maintenance off the bat. cosmoline is a bitch so i would suggest finding one thats been cleaned somewhat if completely. i found a ivhesk arsenal 91/30 made in 42 with a prewar stock a few weeks back locally and picked it up for 200. it depends if youll find one locally so i would start by checking around and if you cant find one then buy milsurp or from an online dealer.

M39's are nice but surplus ammo is hard to come by

>>29814199

>k98, enfield, m1903 are only a "little bit extra"

maybe a beat ass enfield or a decent turkish/brazilian mauser but otherwise no.
>>
>>29814272
abo machine gun baby poster here,

its izhevsk arsenal. i am correcting that before the autism surfaces.
>>
>>29814157
Get pics of bore, barrel and crown.
>>
Bought two hand select M39s from classic and couldn't be happier. They are fantastic rifles with superb accuracy. Commercial 7.62x54r can be found for about 40 cents a round. 8mm Mauser and 303brit will cost you 50 to 70 cents a round. M39 is the way to go.
>>
Go for it, man Mosins are a lot of fun
>>
>>29814149
Locally? Yeah in Utah I know of a place that might have some. Vector arms in SLC area iirc. They are more of a repair shop but I know they should have a good stock of mosins from shitty to good. They aren't really a weapon 'seller' so you may need to contact them and have them arrange to meet at another FFL for the sale
>>
Been looking around for Mosins. Is there any reason I'd want a Tula over anything else? It seems those are usually priced a little higher.
>>
OP here, say i do find a local mosin

What should I look for in terms of quality?
>>
>>29814709
bore barrel crown first off, then i would look over the stock condition and bolt as well. looking for rust mainly, any dents nicks or scratches. if the thing is more than 250 i wouldnt consider purchasing it at all unless theyre willing to negotiate.
>>
>>29814130
just about any other milsurp gun is far superior
>>
>>29816698
Like what? And do they cost $1200 like the garand
>>
>>29814130
think you should buy just about anything else but if you want a meme rifle then go ahead

Could roll the dice on one of these, but if your worried about condition it may be worth it to buy one privately so you know what your getting https://www.classicfirearms.com/long-guns/?manufacturer=483

Pic is my sako which I found on GB, paid a lot more for it but it's worth it
>>
>>29818145
hes right about the 91/30

m39s are fine and on par with about any other milsurp as far as average accuracy and ammo price go. theres no reason to not get one if its what you like
>>
>>29814633
Tula made less than Izhevsk
>>
if you want a gun you will actually shoot regularly, with corrosive ammo and not give a shit, get a mosin. If you want a gun to display and hand down to your kids get a k98
>>
>>29814130
I just bought one from a buddy for 110 with a couple clips, bayonet, sling, oil can, belt pouch, and tool kit in its own little pouch. I haven't gotten to shoot it yet, going to range soon. I checked her out, everything seems to be in good shape on it. I love it so far. I guess I'm in the "do it" camp.
>>
>>29818456
the only way to get a mosin for 110. crazy how much they cost now
>>
>>29818443
>if you want a gun you will actually shoot regularly, with corrosive ammo and not give a shit, get a (insert milsurp i dont like here). If you want a gun to display and hand down to your kids get a (insert milsurp i do like here)
m39s are quality milsurp that will outlast us and are still much cheaper to shoot than mausers.
>>
>>29818504
i like my mosin and it is what it is. A crude, rugged weapon that I can shoot all day and not worry about if I drop it. I would love a k98 but I would be much more careful with it.

I do the same but have beater mosins to shoot often, keep the rarer ones locked up most of the time
>>
>>29818578
m39s arent crude. it seems like half the people in this thread seem to think all mosins are 91/30s
>>
>>29814130

They're fun to shoot. Ammo's getting pretty expensive though so you might wanna look into reloading.

Ah the good old days, bought my first mosin on my 18th birthday for $80. Back when you could pick through a rack of them for a nice hex bolt
>>
>>29818675
how many are hex you think? not a fan of buying milsurp without looking at it first
>>
>>29818480
Like how much we talking? I've seen perfect good condition ones priced at like $350, but how much for one that is just good enough to be safe to shoot?
>>
>>29818675
>c&r eligible
>have the whole fucking crate shipped to my fucking door
>heaviestofbreathing.tiff
>>
>>29818721

I've only gotten back into funz in the last 2 years. I wish like hell I could go back to 2012 and buy that crate. Would've kept 1 in original untouched condition, sporterized the ever loving shit out of 2 others (1 to be "functional", the other to have a bunch of cringy tacticool bullshit like 3 rails with different optics) then kept the rest and sell them in 2020 for $600 a pop.

>>29818806
I wish I was born a generation ago when everything was cheap and plentiful, and before the Clinton ban inflated prices on certain rifles

i just bought a 1940 locally for 230$. Too much for a mosin but the first one I had seen i a couple years so I figured I better get it. Bore is great.
>>
>>29818741
I recall people saying something like 20-30%, maybe 4-5 per crate but it was all luck

this saddens me. I got a 43 izzy 2 years ago for 125 and gander mountain. It has a laminated stock and matching numbers, even the bayonet.

Surplus rifle prices are now so expensive that it makes less sense to buy them for plinking. You can go out and buy a brand new bolt with scope for 310. It shoots common ammo that is more accurate as well. Mosins are about the last surplus rifle that makes economical sense to purchase over a new bolt.

Fuck the feds
Fuck the globalist
Fuck the NRA for not fighting this artificial pricing.
>>
>>29818741
OP here, is it important for the bolt to be hex?
>>
>>29819753
For functionality? No, its just a more desirable since its less common
