I would imagine that the engineers at the various bullet companies have run tests on every conceivable bullet shape imaginable. Which leaves us currently using the best of the bunch. Until technology changes, that is.

What's the general consensus on the Browning Hi-Power? I'm considering a surplus one for a first handgun.

The Cougars are cool, with their rotating barrel and whatnot, but the 92s is a better gun in pretty much every respect.

That gun and the 4" Model 66 are the most beautiful revolvers ever. I have a Colt Trooper Mk. III 6" but god damn do I want an older s&w ;_;

Are you the dude with the shitload of 3rd gen S&W Semi-autos? I picked up a near-mint 4566TSW for cheap a couple months ago and I'm finally going to shoot it today. It is so nice. Finish is beautiful, fit is very precise, trigger is awesome (except the weird trigger play clip thing) and it's very well-balanced.

Do you know a lot about the TSW models? I like the looks a lot of the TSW models but can't really find any online for a decent price.

I used to be, I sold/traded most of them. Traded up, infact.

All I have left now is a 4006, a 5903TSW, and a 3913.

> I picked up a near-mint 4566TSW for cheap a couple months ago and I'm finally going to shoot it today. It is so nice. Finish is beautiful, fit is very precise, trigger is awesome (except the weird trigger play clip thing) and it's very well-balanced.

Never sell that gun. Ever.

>Do you know a lot about the TSW models? I like the looks a lot of the TSW models but can't really find any online for a decent price.

Yes, and you won't. The TSW series were produced less than the bog standard 59xx series. They're also married to the slide and frame, each gun's slide only works on it's frame. They're EXCELLENT guns.

>I have a Colt Trooper Mk. III 6" but god damn do I want an older s&w ;_;

They're not that rare, actually, just pricey.

>>29797144
Because 7.62 tok sucks. It's long, which will make any doublestack gun wide and long as fuck. It has no modern loadings, no hollow points, and there's no american history for it.

And to top it off, it doesn't do anything that other calibers already do.

Lol, no thanks man, probably never selling my 4566TSW. I deleted the decocker/safety with the plug from a DAO model thinking it would make gripping the slide less awkward, but it just doesn't look right now.

It's such a nice .45. Traded a $350 1911 for it. Really excited to shoot it today. I bought the Curved factory grips instead of the Flat backstrap Grips though. I don't know if I like the feel of the Curved grips. Do the flat grips feel a lot more like a 1911?

You got the better deal. That gun's worth $600 easy.

>Really excited to shoot it today. I bought the Curved factory grips instead of the Flat backstrap Grips though. I don't know if I like the feel of the Curved grips. Do the flat grips feel a lot more like a 1911?

I prefer the flat to the curved. Also it depends on the 1911. My Sig Tacops and my Para Elite Commander have flat backstraps and I love it, but I just got that springfield GI today(Got a hankering for a stainless, so I got a stainless), and I shot it, and it feels pretty good in my hand too, since it's modeled after the A1 style.

So it depends on what kind of 1911 you're going after.

>tfw no S&W K-frame

Seriously considering trading my Colt Trooper for a nice 66, or 19 + cash. The problem with my Colt is that I don't want to actually fire it because it's so clean.

Then again, if I got a near-perfect condition S&W Revolver I wouldn't want to fire it much either. Anyone know where to get a decent price on a 19, 66, or 29/629 with some wear on it? Used S&W prices are pretty rough, but I guess they're worth it.

Also just got the old Taurus 44 the other day. At least it LOOKS like a Smith and has the nicest Stainless finish I've ever seen. Not quite as tight as a Smith but I'm really impressed with it. 3" Revolvers are just sweet looking but such a waste for Magnums.
>>
>>29797246

SD9VE are good guns for the money but Sigmas are pretty shit. You can do much better for $3-400.
>>
>>29797246
>I want a cheap full size 9mm but have no info on the sigma. youtube or google arent helping

Sigma sucks. Buy an SD9.

>Experience.

It's one of those "It's a handgun" tier handguns. Other handguns of this kind include the Ruger E9, those CZ999 Zastavas, the hungarian Hi powers, Star model XX handguns, and those Turkish CZ clones. These handguns are handguns that do what a handgun should do: Shoot bullets. That's it. Nothing else fancy, no excellent triggers, no cheap and plentiful aftermarket. But they function.

>>29797261
>Tok shoots flat,

9 shoots flat too. And it's cheaper.

>there are hollow points made by wolf,

Which suck.

>bulgarian surplus is steel core

Which makes it a poor pistol for indoor range use due to shit like that being banned at most indoor ranges.

>and laughs at IIIa armor.

Which most non-military people don't care about.

Cops don't care about it, Civis don't care about it. and the military, being the military, can issue PDWs which have a longer range, less recoil, and a better supply, than 7.62 Tok.
>>
>>29797274
are sigmas not the same as sd9ve??
>>
>>29797266
Goddamn that Taurus looks nice.

ANd it's not a waste. You do get some more power, but it's not as much as a 6 inch.

>>29797291
Nope. Not at all.
>>
>>29797286
tok drops 4 inches less than 9mm at 100 meters.

I care because I want a tok pistol to shoot my bulgy surplus out of, because criminals, terrorists, and police entering my home with out properly identifying themselves, could be wearing soft armor.

I have a CZ52 and really should pick up a tokarev. Though I still would rather have a modern production double stack pistol that has a proper safety and won't blow up on me.

So it's ok its worn on the tops? I have seen people freaking out about wear on these guns, and I always have run either Tretra or Slip2000 grease on it. Its got about 5k through it currently.

I guess the only part that concerned me was that the wear is obviously through the anodization

Quite a few of them have 40k service life.

Then again, most handguns, not abused and properly maintained, will go 30k easy without any major parts breakage. I know for a fact a glock will do 35k without any major breakage.

Shit, those beat to shit M9s that the military use have 50k, 60k rounds before they replace they frames on them.

I also have some of those wear marks on my 226 with ~600 rounds. I have almost the exact same wear above the "EXETER" in that picture, but the rest of my rails are still fully black. I do notice silver spots on the top edge of the rail around the middle section, so I'm guessing that the wears are common and my gun will look like that in time.

Change your springs out at 25k Rounds, check the frame for cracks, fractures, and "Excessive wear".

But nah, that's an alloy frame. That's what they do.

my favorite gun in the world, my '84 CZ75 with a single action trigger.
sorry bout the fingerprints.

good for you annon. dont baby that shit
>>

Good, well I won't worry about it then. So does this mean that Bruce Greys write up on sig frames is total bullshit? It seems like it is.

Who?
>>
>>29797218

Is that yours? I've never seen a .45-70 Thunder 5 in person. The couple I've seen were the .410 ones.

>>29797245

Had never even considered it. Fits perfectly.

How is the quality on the Ruger Single Actions? I generally think Ruger makes quality guns look a little bit 'blocky'. I don't know. I want the Blackhawk in .357 with the 9mm Cylinder, though. I'll buy it eventually.
>>
>>29797823
nope. i wish tho, just pulled that off an auction site.

>>29797830

My dad has a blackhawk in .44 mag and it's a solid gun.

Gun looks fucking badass in the ugly, quirky kind of way. Have you ever held a CZ P-07? It's even better than the 75, the grip, balance and feel of the P-07 is incredible.

Best feeling gun in the world and I've held a LOT trying to find good ones. Plus the weight is so low and your hand is so high on the grip that there's almost no muzzle flip. It is a 10/10 gun.

>>29797708

I love my little Vaquero. It's in .357 Magnum. Got it on sale brand new for $450. I kind of regretted buying it at first but its grown on me. Mine is blued.

This all seems like good advice.
>>
>>29797854
I'm considering buying one in the future, I just don't prefer polymer frames, I like the weight of the steel frame. I've never held one though, I'll make it a point to do that.

Really top notch for a mass production gun. Feel is a bit different from most because they use coil springs vs the leaf springs of the traditional single action. Smooth though and they only get better with use.

I'm dead set on getting one of their new .454 Casull single actions.

I've just seen this quoted a lot online when anyone asks about frame wear. I mean I have always kept my gun well greased and I still ended up with dull silver wear spots. I'm getting the vibe its just normal for alloy frames.
>>
>>29797875

I've got a Para-Ordnance P14-45 that I grease the frame rails with Mobil 1 grease. Zero wear through the finish and it racking the slide feels buttery smooth. I don't have 5000 rounds through mine though. Honestly, probably not even a thousand. It still appears as new when cleaned off though.
>>
>>29797875
It is. Don't worry about it.
>>

The only Single Action I've had was a Heritage Rough Rider .22LR which was shockingly solid and well-made but I found loading and ejecting .22LR tedious on a Single Action.

I don't think it'll be as bad on a larger Caliber, especially like a .44 or .45 but that's a drawback for me. But, the Rugers in .44 are cheap, strong as fuck and basically I can't afford a S&W .44.

A cowboy action shooter trick is to put dry powdered graphite on the cases before you load them. Often helps them just fall out without having to use the ejector rod.
>>
>>29797913

Thanks for the tip but sounds like more of a PITA. lol. I'd be throwing less lead downrange with .44 or .45COLT so it's not like I'd have to load/unload as much.

Just trying to get the tiny .22LR in the chambers was annoying, plus I don't even enjoy shooting .22LR much.

>>29797898
I use mobil 1 on my sig and I still get those wear. I think it depends on the gun.

Since this thread died, I have a question for you guys:

What's the worst gun you've ever bought or the one you couldn't sell fast enough?

For me? Sig SP2022. Hated everything about it ergonomically.
>>
>>29798076
Sedco SP22

It will shoot on it's own, randomly, when I load it.

Paid 60 bucks for it.

I still have it.
>>
>>29798093

Damn, had to google that piece of crap. I hated the SP2022 I bought but the Ruger SR22 was a close second. I liked the looks and the small size but it was TOO small for its purpose and had the worst trigger in history.

Come to think of it, I've hated all of my semi-auto .22LR pistols.

I recently bought a used 5906 w/ adj sights that has some scratches and nicks, any suggestions for how I can get rid of them? Also, I'm having trouble trying to find a site that sells adjustable sights which I'd like to replace, any suggestions for that as well?
>>
>>29798158
Get a ruger.

>>29798172
A refinish.

As for sights, I have no idea.
