As long as you're not using hot ammo. The thing only has one locking lug.

Just don't use higher pressure ammo and you should be fine.

I don't own a Krag, but my dad shoots his all the time.

How can I tell if the ammo is safe to shoot?

If when you put it in the gun and press the trigger you don't have shrapnel stuck in your head

Yes

Well considering 30 Army was only ever made for like 5 guns Its pretty safe to assume ammo is okay

Krags actually have this awesome self-rectifying magazine pan thing where it doesn't need the rounds to be loaded in very carefully.

Well I mean like the pressures and stuff

If it's factory ammo it should be completely fine, if it's Billy-Joe's backyard reloads then who knows.

I own a 1894 Krag that has been sportized. My rifle has been blued, bolt chromed and jeweled, wood stock replaced with new wood and a scope installed. I did none of this, that's how I bought it.
Both Remington and Winchester will load, fire, and eject with no trouble.....
>Factory ammo is good<
... Hand loading a 30-40 too hot is dangerous. There is only one locking lug.
So if you are looking at one. Take it to a gunsmith to make sure the head space is right. It's something that old guns need checking. If so, it will shoot good.
Fun note- Teddy Roosevelt to a krag with him to hunt game in Africa.

6.5x55 Krags can get iffy on commercial ammunition - it's mostly loaded for the M/94 and M/96 and more modern bolts, so it can be hotter than what the Krag was designed for.

.30 US though? If the barrel, chamber and bolt are fine, then go for it. .30 US will be loaded for the Krag.
