Hey /k/ I was thinking of buying a Browning Hi Power. I heard a lot of good things about them, they have a long history, and they look pretty cool. What do you guys this of this gun?
Best gun i own.
Its a little dated, heavy, and only holds 13rnds.
But it just feels good in the hand and shoots like a dream.
The FN factory in Herstal is gonna get shut down by the Belgian government soon... you heard it here first.
Get your Belgian made FNs while you can.
Why would they shutdown?

They don't want it falling into ISIS hands.

They're pretty neat. I got one as my first pistol when I turned 21 and cc'd it for a while. Still do sometimes when it gets cold. It's heavy but slim. The ergonomics of it are pretty good, minus the original safety. It's also piss easy to take apart and clean. It's worth mentioning that the triggers tend to feel kind of gritty if it still has the magazine safety.
As long as you have realistic expectations about it, I think you won't be disappointed if you get one.
I was a huge Glockfag until I got my Hi-Power (could never get used to 1911s). Now it's the only gun I carry and I even use it in competition.
It was JMB's masterpiece, plain and simple.

enjoy youre slide bite
Any here give me some knowledge and possibly date my HP on the red felt type stuff in the magazine well?
I had some fudd at a range tell me it was more collectable because of this.

>slide bite.
You mean hammer pinch? You idiot it's not even that bad. Just leaves a little red spot on the web of your hand between your thumb and index.
>>29705298
mec gar makes 15 rnd flush fit mags
>>29703613
They're quite good full-size handguns. If you're looking for a full-size nine, Hi-Powers are your best bet.

hold your gun properly
I have a FN High Power mk2 with the spur hammer. The slide and hammer never touch my hand.

How do you assholes even get slidebite with a 1911 or BHP? Do you have hamplanet hands or do you go out of your way to grip the gun in a way that it is totally unavoidable?
>>29706677
Some people have abnormally webbed hands.
>>29706705
Well okay, but a lot of us don't have a gene pool that resides in a trailer park.

I don't either, but I've seen it a few times on others.

Scorched earth policy
Big fan of my WaA stamped, 1944 era Nazi Hi-Power
>>29706677
Fuck if I know dude. Never had slide bite but will occasionally get hammer bite with a GI-style beavertail and GI-style ring hammer on a 1911.
>inb4 "get an oversized beavertail!"
Then it wouldn't look like a GI 1911.
>>29706185
I've found those to be a bit sensitive to adverse conditions.
Inglis mags are 14 rounds and very reliable (and also very hard to find).
I personally like Italian mouse trap magazines the best, but will settle for 13 round mec-gar's. I'm not a big fan of the 15 rounders.

From what I can see that is fucking in great fucking shape, fuck.
Post more pls?

These are great, but I've never really put them through a torture session or anything. Still, 15 round BHP is pretty fucking nice.
Anyone have experience with the FEG P9, it basically looks like a clone of the Hi-Power?
http://www.southernohiogun.com/handguns/surplus-handguns/feg-p9m-pistol-9mm.html
They're very nice handguns, though the only experience I've had with them is a commercial made model my dad has, and can't really speak for the surplus guns.
Thanks for this thread OP - I'm also interested... there's a moderately priced one at my LGS - $850, fuck this country - and I've always been interested in one - seems like a nice addition to my P210 and P226 X5

Fucking WHHYY
>>29706929
FEG's are pretty nice IMO, worth the money as far as BHP clones go.
>>29706677
I learned to shoot on a 1911 with an extended beavertail, I hold guns high and tight.
I get light hammer bite with my high power, but even after 300 rounds its still just a tiny little bug bite looking thing, and I don't feel it happen.
>>29706862
Thanks,
Its a great shooter

When buying an FEG, ensure that it has the traditional style of lockup. Some FEGs have a barrel based on the locking mechanism of the s&w 5906 which means less parts compatibility with pure hi powers and derivatives like FMs and Arcus pistols
>>29707211
The FEG's are what you get when you cross a Hi-Power with a S&W Model 59 anyway. It's just better to assume no parts compatibility and anything that does work is just gravy
>>29707270
On the double action P9r, you're correct, but FEG also churned out single action hi-powers identical in every way barring the barrel and takedown lever. When and for how long these were made in relation to their mechanically identical hi power clones is poorly documented. The incestuous nature of FEG's naming system does little good as the P9 and P9m designations have been found on differing designs and at times contradict one another

Jesus christ. It's even more beautiful than I could have imagined.
You can't beat the looks of a Mk. I. The internal extractor, the takedown pin recess. Beautiful.
>>29703613
Get one in 10mm.
>>29703613
Not OP, but are new Hi-Powers worth $1,000? Or should I just go with a MilSurp gun?
>>29708364
Depends, how hard does your dick get in the presence of polished blue? If the answer is anything less than diamonds, go for the milsurp.
Browning Hi Power is love. Browning Hi Power is life.

The BHP was the first handgun I bought.
>No guns. Started hanging out at a great local gunshop, learning alot from the staff.
>Kinda like Sigs, 1911's, S&W's, but nothing really grabbed me.
>One day a used gun comes in.
>Ordinary condition, but still most beautiful semi-auto I've ever seen.
>Woah, what's that.
>"Browning Hi-Power, anon. Not so common but some people like them."
>It fits my hand perfectly. No other semi-auto came close.
>Found my mini-raifu.
I did some reading and eventually bought a new .40 BHP and later a 9mm ~2002 for about $500 each. They're still the only full-sized auto's I have--nothing else feels or looks right.
I was lucky because the prices now are insane.
So I think you'd really like one, anon, but try to get a good deal or look into some of the lesser priced clones. It's too bad they're so expensive now.
