Assuming this is accurate and complete, looks like the biggest differences are where the controls are placed (which I prefer on the Mossberg) and the redundant extractor in case one breaks.

I like that little piece of advice at the end. I've been trying to find an Ithaca 37 DSPS like the kind LAPD used to issue for quite a while now, but no dice.

They're either highly coveted, or just not that common on the civvy market. Knowing the LAPD, they probably throw them in the ocean instea of selling them back to the taxpayers.

I'm actually torn between a mossberg 500/590 or a benelli nova/supernova. Beside the two different styles, i feel like the upgrade or "better models" of each style arent all that better.

Also, how much for a new Nova should I pay new? Supernova? I've got a good handle on mossberg prices.

I personally got the 500, didn't feel like hunting for an old 870 and the prospect of having to resort to power tools or sending in the gun if a part breaks was the things that drove me away.

That said.
I'll still get a 870 wingmaster when I got the cash.

I have an 870 Express w/ 28" ribbed barrel and a 1970 Wingmaster 18" barrel included, and a Mossberg 500. The 870 Express is heavily prone to rusting and has really bad quality control. Both have been really solid, but I'd lean more towards the 500, though the finish tends to scratch off.
