I had the U.S. Navy trying to recruit me for a long while and after finally agreeing to meet with them learned I wasn't able to join. Given he is former Air Force I doubt he was although I suppose it is possible for a few to slip through the cracks. The only purpose of buying mosins is that they're cheap and fun. It doesn't make them trash but it doesn't mean they're the greatest gun ever eather.
