Just finished watching True Grit, and I was wondering how "realistic" this is.

Depends really. How fast your riding, the horse how you are shooting and what you are shooting with. If you have the right gun and practice enough you can shoot pretty accurately from horseback. I used to hunt coyotes off my horse up in Wyoming when I did some work up there.
>>
>>29541921
People have used bows on horseback, so a gun can't be THAT different.
>>
>>29542000
>what you are shooting with
checked. let's just say dual Navy revolvers?
>>
>>29542031
Navy's are a bit heavy. They are bit a tough to handle in one hand if you aren't strong in the arm. However if you had enough upper body strength and had a good sense of balance you could shoot pretty straight on horseback if you can time the gallops with the shot.

>putting a gun right next to your right ear and shooting into the air
I'm pretty sure no one would be stupid enough to do that, especially not experienced bandits.

I can hit the horse most of the time.

Unless the horse is well trained and been seasoned to gunfire, it is a recipe for disaster.

I saw a guy on a hunting trip innawoods fire a rifle and the trail horse they had tied up nearby went super spazzy. I would hate to be the guy to fire a shot cowboy style when mounted.

They did a really good job with this movie. Its pretty accurate, but like the first guy who replied said it just takes practice.

It's not realistic because it's not John Wayne doing the shooting.

Also, I just watched both back to back and I hate how much of a worthless, asshole drunk they make Rooster out to be.

Also, Glenn Campbell is better than Matt Damon.

I did too, or else I wouldn't have re-watched the Jeff Bridges one.

I think Bridges did a good job doing Rooster, but I don't appreciate the superfluous points that they tried to make in it. Trying to make Rooster into more of a morally controversial figure to try and make his redemption more grandiose.

Also, I prefered the manner in which Rooster and La Boeuf interacted and worked together in the John Wayne version.

John Wayne a shit

Jeff Bridges is cool

Have you ever shot from a boat? Duck hunting most likely but some people hunt large game from a boat in Alaska and sheit.
If you have a gun trained horse, it's like that. But even horses that are gun broke sometimes decide "nah, fuck this, that shit's loud".
I once shot a fox from horseback on my cousin's barrel racing horse because I was a stupid high schooler, the fox died but I broke three bones in my wrist from the horse.

Just don't shoot from a saddle. It's not worth it. It's 2016 not 1880.

>Unless the horse is well trained and been seasoned to gunfire, it is a recipe for disaster.

Many cavalry horses were made deaf on purpose, so I'd imagine some cowboys and especially bandits would do that too.
